btw Short People is a parody of bigotry. Newman portrays someone who feels they “got no reason to live”.
The key is the middle part; the background singers: “Short people are just the same as you and I”

Newman, in his persona: “The fools such as I.”

“All people are brothers until the day they die.”

“It’s a wonderful world.” Then he goes back to his bigotry…the key word is “fools”.

As the mother of a little person, your attempts at humor are not particularly funny to me. It’s a matter of respect, really. Below is some education to help you sound a little less ignorant(take special note of #5) :

Nine facts about dwarfism

1.There are more than 300 types of dwarfism.
2.There are an estimated 30,000 people with dwarfism in the United States and 651,700 in the world.
3.People with a form of dwarfism are usually no taller than 4′ 10″.
4.People of short stature can do just about anything an average sized person can – just sometimes in a different way.
5.80 percent of Little People are born to average sized parents.
6.Any average sized parents can have a child with a form of dwarfism.
7.Because dwarfism is primarily a bone growth disorder, most people of short stature deal with some type of health issues. These issues run from mild to severe and at times life threatening.
8.The word “midget” is considered offensive.
9.Such terms as Little Person, LP or person of short stature are all acceptable, but most people would rather be referred to by their name, than a label.

You need to lighten up. I’m handicapped yet one of my favorite episodes of Seinfeld is when George parks in a handicapped spot. I know they didn’t mean any disrespect, it’s just comedy. Even if they meant to be disrespectful, who are they that I should care what they think of me?

So what descriptor should we use for midgets? Short people? Fine. So how do we distinguish between someone who is shorter than average, a midget, and a dwarf?
Being from Sarasota, Florida (formerly the winter home of Ringling Bros. circus) I grew up around circus people. I’ve known several midgets throughout my life, including a couple who were Munchkins, (they had five normal sized children btw) and not one of them ever took offense at being called a midget. It’s how they defined themselves. What they didn’t like was being called dwarves and would school you on the difference.

When I was in elementary school, there was an abnormally short girl attending whose name was Bridget – you can guess what her nickname was! I never participated in calling her that, nor did I laugh when others did, but I did recognize the humor – I never noticed anyone being mean-spirited towards her.

This post touches on that aspect:

I heard a good comedian – Brian Willims, who happens to be a midget/dwarf/little/small/vertically challenger person – on the Bob & Tom Show on the radio. (he also used to be on the Carlos Mencia show) He said his shows have actually been picketed by “little people” because he jokes about being a midget, and uses the term midget a lot in his act. He said he really doesn’t care what term people used – but is more concerned about picking on a person’s tone as to how they’re saying things to decide whether they are being insulting.

Just think: The “enlightened” majority of Americans think people like Hank Johnson are eminently qualified to make decisions for them concerning their healthcare, financial and banking matters, housing, education, etc.

actually enlightened majority has nothing to do with his district which seems to be 59% black. I think this clown shoes of a rep says more about the morons that cast votes for him than the country at large.

Lets face it if the supreme court didn’t force states into electoral apartheid when drawing districts guys like this wouldn’t be in congress.
