Video: Union members tear down AFP tent at right-to-work rally in Michigan

posted at 1:23 pm on December 11, 2012 by Allahpundit

Two clips via Lee Stranahan and Liberty News Network, respectively, of the union id unleashed after RTW passed the Michigan House this morning. One of the reliable perks when Republican legislatures try to rein in union power is watching the left’s “civility” sanctimony instantly dissolve into more traditional forms of direct action practiced by labor. The “new tone” demagoguery of tea partiers after the Tucson shooting was fraudulent from the word go, but days like this remind you just how fraudulent it was. Case in point, some Democratic cretin went so far as to warn on the state House floor this morning that “There will be blood.” Here’s Steven Crowder live on the scene to prove him right, claiming he got a few fistfuls of “new tone” for his trouble:

One open question: Did they target AFP specifically, because it’s Koch-affiliated and an ardent opponent of big labor, or did they target it just because it was there and not part of The Cause? Wouldn’t be the first time that liberal heroes couldn’t control themselves outside an AFP event.

I actually see this as an accountability issue.
As CB is not being done away with, Unions still have considerable power.
The question is, will membership see a value in having Union bargin on their behalf. If so, they’d willingly pay for that benefit. If not, no money.
Judging from unions reaction, THEY do not feel the membership will see and pay for that value. Doesn’t speak well to the Unions.

It’s time to stop pussyfooting around the real issue. And that is that unions outlived their usefulness a long, long time ago. They contribute absolutely nothing to society at this point. They are a vehicle for a bunch of corrupt fatcats to rake in big paychecks, the promote thuggery of the worst kind, and they actually keep the average worker more subservient. It’s time for unions to go, period.

Jabberwock on December 11, 2012 at 1:28 PM

Not really. You can trace the roots of the Progressive Era back to the American Pietism Movement and The Absolute Shalls, which in turn can be traced back to 16th century German Lutheran Pietism.

Progressives have never been content with personal choice, personal responsibility, and to accept the inherent fallibility of mankind. They believe that “man can be perfected,” “a form of heaven where men are worthy of God or higher ideal/purpose can be created on earth,” salvation can only come through the collective, and force, when used for a greater good, is acceptable…indeed, noble because the “sinner (or reactionary)” is the problem. It is the sinner that is harming the good. Force or punishment in the name of the collective is good because the people are more important than the individual, who would sully the people, bring them down, and send them to “hell.”

Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson used a lot of the Pietists’ foundational arguments. In fact, Obama’s speech on Neo-Nationalism that he gave in Osawatomie (a very special place for Progressives and the Weather Underground, which celebrated Ho Chi Minh there in 1975) returned to these same themes. They explain his demand that tax rates increase on the top 2% even if tax revenues will go down or could be increased much more in another manner. It is “immoral” for the “evil rich” to have so much when the “blessed poor” have so little. Even if revenues fall, tax rates must increase to punish the “evil rich.”

“Very little good has ever been done by the absolute shall.”
