Video: Steven Crowder gets the full union-thug experience

posted at 4:01 pm on December 11, 2012 by Allahpundit

When I saw his tweet this morning, I wondered if he had oversold what happened. Nope. Not only does one guy start throwing roundhouses, another yanks him back hard by his jacket collar and seems ready to jump him before people around them step in. A third guy curses him out and looks like he’s moments away from making a move of his own before Crowder backs off to cool him down. Why? Because the state decided they shouldn’t be able to force people to join their organization as a condition of employment. I’m not sure why they’re worried about that, frankly; given their tactics, who’d dare take a job working alongside these cretins while refusing to unionize? This is their version of an anti-RTW ad: If you’re thinking of exercising your freedom of association, make sure you think carefully. And not a single Democratic pol will say a word about it, beyond the most perfunctory “of course I deplore violence but…” statement wrung from their press team.

You might see this clip on Fox News today. Smart money says you won’t see it anywhere else. Exit question: When was “democracy” redefined to mean “doing whatever unions want”?

Update: Presented without comment:

“This is just the first round of a battle that’s going to divide this state. We’re going to have a civil war,” Hoffa said on CNN’s “Newsroom.”

There are conflicting reports going out over the police scanner and from reporters. Since I posted that, I’ve read some later tweets where some people report that they believe he was wearing a hockey mask and wearing all black (Is that Jason? I’m not a horror flick person). The original statements were definitely about a Guy Fawkes’s mask and to a degree that both Anonymous and OWS are freaking out and expecting a crackdown. Of course, they probably believe that Wall Street bankers are meeting with Netanyahu, the NWO, Tri-Lats, the Bilderbergers and Obama about sending in “The drones!!!”

Yeah, I know. I wrote a piece and brought all of their statements together a while back. It is bloody stunning, especially in hindsight. On the day of the shooting, I heard the guy’s name almost as soon as the news off of the scanner made its way to journo tweets. I found his Facebook page and immediately could tell that the guy was a freaking paranoid schizophrenic. Over at TH, the Progs were already calling for Palin’s arrest and accusing the TP of having blood on its hands. I warned them not to go too far out of the Ferret/Markos/Ezra bloody shirt limb because the chances of a reality saw coming along and sending that branch falling to the ground were like Ivory soap numbers.

Sure ’nuff. That’s what happened.

Unfortunately for the lunatic Progs over at TH, I saved the first 72 hours of their unbridled hatred, completely unfounded and unsupported statements of facts, etc. They come in handy whenever those idiots — not that I go there very much anymore — start talking about how civil and peaceful the left is and how violent and hateful the right is. They were completely deranged.

itsspideyman on December 12, 2012 at 12:25 AM

Here’s my take. First impressions I was pretty pissed at the union thugs for beating up on a pretty decent and fun guy as Crowder. Certainly threw the image of a hard-working, respectable blue collar worker out the window.

However upon reflection over the core of what is being fought over, I can see the union thugs point of view. If you allow works to come in that are non-unionized, it will lead to the shrinking of wages-since acting as a collective gives you more leverage.

One could say the ‘right-to-work’ is basically a union-busting tactic so to an extend their anger is justified. Who wants to be forced to pay union fees? Yet as one of the men stated, they fought to have and keep the high wages and what they used to call ‘scabs’ would come in and take their jobs for less pay and longer hours-exactly what people who run corporations want.

This was an ugly situation, I think the union demonstrators did more harm than good to their cause but in the end I think they had it right.

thinkagain on December 12, 2012 at 12:28 AM

You think they had it right?!? You can’t be serious.

cptacek on December 12, 2012 at 12:31 AM

Crowder easily had 3 inches on that clown and should have FHU. As a former production supervisor with over 14 years fighting in a heavily unionized environment I can tell you that these so called union thugs are in fact nothing more than a gaggle of p&ssys. You push back and they will revert to the candy asses they really are.

Problem is, the GOP, just like Crowder, is shot through with candy asses who’d rather whine than fight. This is why the country is lost.

Shame on a strapping Crowder for not putting the beat down on these cowards!!!!! And shame on the upper echelons of GM managent who handcuffed those of us who were willing to take the fight to the union cowards.

The cowarded on the right deserve what’s coming to them becuase they have been too afraid to give as good as they get.

Just like Crowder they’d rather complain about an ass whipping rather than whipping some ass!

But then you get mugged by reality and facts and your stupid and ignorant assertion as cover for violence blows up in your face like a claymore.

More importantly, the President’s argument makes zero sense. He presupposes that with right-to-work comes lower wages, which is categorically false.

From 2000 to 2010, employment in right-to-work states increased 2.3 percent, compared to a 4.0 percent decline in non-right-to-work states. Indiana saw employment decrease 6.9 percent over the same period. That means Indiana lost roughly 207,000 jobs over the past 10 years. In contrast, 1.2 million jobs were created in right-to-work states.

[...]

Between 2000 and 2010, personal income grew 57.5 percent in right-to-work states, compared to 40.5 percent in non-right-to-work states. Indiana saw personal income grow a paltry 35.4 percent over the same period.

The difference remains when you look at disposable personal income (the money you have left to spend after taxes). From 2000 to 2010, disposable personal income increased 65.3 percent in right-to-work states, compared to 49.4 percent in non-right-to-work states. Indiana managed a meager 41.8 percent increase over the same time period.

Then there is the cost of living, which tends to be lower in right-to-work states. A study by the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center found that in 2009, after adjusting for the cost of living, annual per-capita disposable income was $35,543 in right-to-work states, compared to $33,389 in non-right-to-work states. That equates to a $2,154 premium each year for those living in right-to-work states.

Additionally:

Right-to-work states are much more attractive for businesses investment. Unionized firms earn lower profits, invest less, and create fewer jobs than comparable nonunion firms.

And more:

The main reasons people claim a state should not adopt Right to Work laws are that they lead to lower wages, are damaging to unions, and are morally wrong because they allow people to receive union services without paying for them. This paper’s critical analysis of Right to Work literature has provided strong evidence that the first two potential drawbacks of Right to Work laws are red herrings. Numerous credible studies have shown that real wages in Right to Work and non-RTW states are about the same, and if anything Right to Work states have slightly higher real wages. Additionally, although Right to Work laws do make it easier for people to free ride or receive union services without paying for them, the best estimate available suggests the proportion of people who are truly taking advantage of unions in this way is insignificant. As to how Right to Work laws affect union membership, the jury is still out. Most research suggests that total union membership within a state could decrease by between zero and eight percent after a state adopts a Right to Work law. This would be the most significant negative effect to a state of adopting Right to Work laws. However, it seems fairly safe to say that the possible reduction in union size does not negatively affect workers’ wages.

[...]

When one weighs the benefits of Right to Work laws, mainly stronger economic growth and new job creation, against the negative effects of Right to Work laws, mainly the possibility of somewhat weakened unions, the choice is clear. In either case the real wages people earn are the same, but the economic growth and job creation are different. States wanting to be well positioned for success in the 21st century should adopt a Right to Work law.

And still more:

The reason why the Right to Work Floridian is better off than the union-controlled Californian is not, however, the exclusive result of differences in taxes. Certainly, the lower tax rate makes a difference. But more important is the option not to join a union and pay union dues. The dues the Floridian does not have to pay make for money he now has available to use, save, or invest as he chooses.

Additionally (includes figures showing a lower cost of living in RTW states):

The fact is, Right to Work laws safeguard employees’ freedom of association evenhandedly: They prohibit the firing of employees for refusal to join or pay “fees” to a union, and they also prohibit termination for joining or financially supporting a union.

[...]

Where their difficulty lies is in explaining why they believe the law should protect one employee’s right to support a union, but at the same time authorize the firing of another employee who chooses not to support the same union.

The President’s claim that RTW brings with it lowered wages is demonstrably false. It’s the statement of a politician working to save one of his biggest cash cows: union bosses.

The reality of how the “National Socialists Party” came to exist in Germany, prior to them latching onto Hitler and vice-versa, was that it began by disgruntled theatre-arts-bohemian types in Berlin who organized in a union-concept to “require” they be paid for their work.

That is very often denied to be mentioned by contemporary education but the fact is, the “Nazis” as they eventually grew to be, and with Hitler’s integration into them, began as a union movement.

That’s the Leftwingism that is refused to be mentioned in explanation of how the eventual “Nazis” came to be…it was a LEFTWING, SOCIALIST, LABOR organization in it’s beginning. And the eventual violence used by them against others is little different from what I see taking place today by Leftwingers here in the US.

This thing in Michigan as also Wisconsin is very, very similar to what transpired in Germany during the birth of the National Socialists there.

Lourdes on December 12, 2012 at 5:09 AM

Has there EVER been a fascist and/or dictatorship from SOcialists that is NOT involved in violence against others among their own country? This seems to be the eventual course of Socialism: violence against their countrymen (and women).

Keep the pressure on the unions and force them to deplete their resourses on fights they cannot win. Not only will it hurt them financially (politically) but it will also put them in the public light more and more and that won’t reflect well on them at all.

The media can’t bury these demonstrations forever.

JetBlast on December 12, 2012 at 5:13 AM

Yeah, I remember the left’s outrage at abortion protesters. They were so “violent and intimidating” they had to be pushed back a hundred feet from the clinics.

But in the midst of all of this… still again… where is the voice of our glorious Republican leaders?
I am sick of seeing pictures of Boehner’s weepy mug. Has a single Republican uttered anything from DC about this violence?

So now.. here’s Obama. Invites a celebrity to the WH .. one who has publicly ranted about killing American soldiers and their families and Obama likes the guy. So.. he invites this clown, the one who has publicly ranted about killing American soldiers and their families to a WH party. Obama likes the guy so much he shakes his hand.

Then.. you have this other clown. Goes on TV and calls Obama lord and savior.. then later brags about how much fun it was to kill “all the white people” in a movie he was just in. Do you think Obama is going to invite him to the WH soon? Do you think Obama might want to shake his hand too?

So you ask yourself… do you think Obama’s actions might not encourage this kind of violence?

Do you think that our Republican leadership might not think a speech or a press statement or something might not be appropriate at a time like this? Do you think the GOP could wake themselves from their slumber and confront the violence coming from the left? The violence that Obama seems to think is cool?

Do you think that, in the aftermath of our embassy being attacked, our ambassador dragged out into the streets and murdered, two of our Marines killed, that it is the right thing for our President to invited a guy who ranted publicly about killing our soldiers and their families… our President invites this guy to a WH party and shakes his hand?!

Is this offensive to even one of our glorious freaking Republican leaders in DC? Do they they not have even the tiniest bit of courage somewhere in their tiny little spines to condemn a President shaking the hand of a man who ranted on stage about killing American soldiers and their families!?

What does it take to wake Republicans from their sleep? What does it take to offend their conscience? Is it even possible today?

UNFORTUNATELY, most people employed in media are in unions. As are nearly all people employed by the entertainment industry — and if not union members, then they have to work with union members or not work at all (unions won’t work with certain people they ‘blacklist’ who they deem unfriendly to the labor unions involved in entertainment industry).

As are members of law enforcement also union members.

One of the primary reasons the Left manages to suppress if not utterly silence information to the public is that unions leverage their members throughout media, entertainment industry related to that and law enforcement, unfortunately.

Not sure what’s more ridiculous, hypocritical idiots like Sesquidalien expressing how much they enjoy witnessing political violence while convincing themselves that the rest of us must possess the same barbaric desire, or the “true conservative” internet tough guy idiots who OF COURSE would have taken on the whole mob of union thugs in fisticuffs and won a flawless victory

WeekendAtBernankes on December 12, 2012 at 4:13 AM

I vote for the latter – at least sesquid has the legitimate excuse of not being able to help herself, as she lacks the mental capacity to understand what is going on around her. I can’t say the same about those on the Right you mentioned who are attacking Crowder – I figure that they should know better, making their psychological issue less tolerable than hers.

I’m going to vent here and some of you may not like it. But oh well. I’ve got to get this off my chest…

Time and time again, the left commits acts of violence and intimidation against us. And they’re never held accountable for it. And I’m sick of seeing it. And I’m more sick of seeing this: conservatives standing around like little b**ches, crying, playing victim, whining “omg the mean man hit me,” etc. It’s pathetic, and I’m sick of it. This guy that assaulted Crowder…he may get charged. But he won’t lose his job, and he’ll probably get hi-5′s and a medal for doing so. So what good is the crying like babies doing us? It’s not working!

For god’s sake, we don’t have to take this s**t from these people. How many times are our speakers interrupted? Are our Tea Party rallies infiltrated and our protesters harassed? Quite often! Do we ever start smashing heads? No. Well….when you figure that we get called violent anyways, (unjustifiably) when is it time to start earning that label? I mean…if they’re going to tar us as violent anyways, we may as well get our pound of flesh, right? And we can’t worry about negative press either. Why? It’s already negative! The media will never side with us!

So yes, I’m sure some of you will disagree with me here. But I am advocating f***ing some of these leftists up if they give us a reason to. I’m sick of these people. And I’m sick of chicken s**t conservatives standing around crying. And I’m sick of us ALLOWING them to ruin our rallies, interrupt our speakers, etc, and get away with it. These are their tactics, and they are WORKING! If we are going to continue down the path of passiveness, then we will lose. The law of the jungle still applies in some ways in society. This is one of them.

GET. WITHIT.

The one in my classroom had his hair all spiked up like Edward in Twilight.

I’d punch him if he got in my face too, and I agree with everything he says.

JoseQuinones on December 12, 2012 at 8:43 AM

This whole event is one big example / commercial of how out-of-hand Unions have become in the US, how ‘monompolizing’ they have become by demanding that every child is America is born into a nation where he is immediately ‘enslaved’ – born to a system where they MUST join a Union if they ever want to have a job, and how Unions are so willing to turn to violence to ensure this monopoly (& their existence) is not threatened.

Then you have this POS President who has sold his soul to the Unions for their support, the most divisive President in U.S. History who is pushing an enslaving Socialist government transformation on this country, standing up & taking sides – pushing the Union Agenda…while LYING about Union ‘benefits’! Yesterday he made a remark to the effect that without Unions people’s salaries would be LOWER…when it has been PROVEN that workers in Right To Work States actually make MORE money / have more Take Home pay!

EVERY STATE IN THE U.S. SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY BE A ‘RIGHT TO WORK STATE’ & people should be allowed to join them OF THEIR OWN FREE CHOICE, NOT ENSLAVED / FORCED TO JOIN, which is what happens when you mandate that people MUST join a union if they wish to work!

States that out-law the ‘Right-to-Work’ status are basically supporting a ‘slave system’ that generates revenue with which Unions BUY elections & political favors! The Constitution states we are a FREE people; yet Unions have created a perverted system where Americans must FIGHT TO BE FREE by VOTING for their state to be a ‘Right-to-Work’ state, liberating them from Union ‘tyranny/rule’!

The Police should have been all over these guys, arresting every thug for every attack, which I hope they were. And as I said earlier, I hope citizens with concealed weapons permits were in the crowd or those carrying tasers…I am a peace-loving man, but when BULLIES & THUGS like this come looking for a fight / intend to threaten and intimidate, I am all for citizens standing up for themselves, protecting themselves. Again, I would have PAID MONEY to see a Union thug attempt to intimidate a peaceful protester, to hit him, only to have him TASE the dude, leaving him twitching & drooling on the ground! These Unions/thugs need to learn we will no longer be ‘SHEEP’ who will take their cr@p!

Just saw this:

“Time and again, federal prosecutors have amassed extensive evidence that Big Labor bosses have orchestrated, authorized and/or ratified violence, vandalism and threats for union organizing purposes,” noted Mark Mix, president of the National Right to Work Committee.

“Nevertheless, because of the pro-union violence loophole in the federal Hobbs Act, extortion prosecutions of the implicated union officials ultimately fail — or never even get off the ground…”

“The Supreme Court decided almost 40 years ago that… union [officers] should not be charged with extortion” when the motive for their extortionate violence, threats, and vandalism is unionization of nonemployees and firms!

Sounds like the loophole needs to be closed.

Yes, it is obvious that Steven is the one with issues on self importance

Again, I didn’t say that Crowder’s message is wrong, it’s just how he delivers it. He comes across as someone that needs to grow out of the young dude in a university setting mentality. He gets in people’s face and mocks them. He needs to grow up. He needs to knock off the Surfer Dude voice and manner, and treat people with respect like an adult.

“Do not answer a fool in the same way as he shows his folly, lest you become like him yourself.” (Proverbs 26:4) “Like a man who seizes a dog by the ears is the man who passes by and meddles in a fight that is not his.” (Proverbs 26:17). “Do not cast your pearls before swine, lest they turn on you and tear you to pieces.” (Matthew 7:6.)

The Bible is replete with passages like this. In my opinion, they relate to Crowder’s method. He’s trying to fight fire with fire, scorn with scorn, stupidity with ridicule. It doesn’t work. “Therefore, my brothers, do not be overcome with evil, but defeat evil with good.” (Romans 12:21) “Do not return insult with insult, or evil with evil, but with blessing.” (1 Peter 3:9) “I tell you, love your enemies, and pray for those who treat you harshly.” (Matthew 5:44)

Crowder’s antics give us the conservatives the satisfaction of a wry chuckle as we watch our hero run into the lion’s mouth and Speak Truth to Power. We take vicarious satisfaction in reactions. It may make for good steam blowing, but it does our cause no favors. It certainly changes no minds on the other side. It raises their defenses and makes them all the more likely to accuse us of manufacturing scandals to discredit them, just as we said when they found the one KKK racist at a Tea Party rally.

And for the record, I know not everyone here is a Bible-believing Christian; but all conservatives respect ageless wisdom and handed-down truths.
