One of these days, the Republicans are going to figure out the Democrats are in this to win for their unions. They don't care about being nice, they don't care about being liked, they don't care about what it does to the country, they only care about winning.

They have a media wing which will give them all the cover they need to do what they want and it's a huge advantage. Right now, every single Republicans in Michigan can explain why this is good for the State of Michigan and its citizens, even the union citizens. With the Democrats media wing, the only thing that will be heard is that Republicans are being vindictive and that is because of the sycophant media.

If the Republicans don't deal with this problem, they aren't going to win on the issues. The unions and the Democrats were awakened by Wisconsin and won't be caught napping for a long time. Luckily, they were such jerks in Wisconsin, the reforms had a chance to take place and the citizens got to see the tangible results before they had to vote. I can not recall any positive stories, in the MSM, about Scott Walker or the Republican reforms, in the MSM. The Republicans can't win with only Fox News and Talk Radio and the forces against them are amassed to ensure their defeat.

If you don't believe me, watch the MSM coverage of the fiscal cliff. Is Boehner trying to negotiate in good faith, or is he saving tax cuts for the top 2%?

You make a good point. I was at a Pearl Harbor commemoration dinner tonight. Mostly older folk including some WW2 vets and Some who were actually at Pearl Harbor on this day in 1941. I have to wonder how many Americans, let alone the parasites that supported Obama even wondered why the flags were flying at half mast today.

As to your comments about web sites... I think you are somewhat off base but not entirely.

You have some mooches on the Detroit city council demanding that the rat-eared wonder reward them for being selfish greedy parasites that voted for him. Now you've got the top political parasite in the state demanding the rat-eared wonder punish Detroit to get back at Rick Snyder or something. You can't make this stuff up. Also shows how much this move hurts the filthy Democrats of Michigan. Not the workers, the political party's ability to do stuff like declare anybody getting paid for daycare has to join the union. Bottom line- the unions got a little too greedy.

A date which will live in -- Infamy?

Not if you're HotAir.com -- or Google -- or Yahoo.

HotAir.com posts NOTHING on Pearl Harbor Day to commemorate the horrific Japanese surprise attack on the American Naval Fleet in port at Pearl Harbor leaving 2,402 Americans killed and 1,282 Americans wounded -- many of them civilians.

Pathetic.

This website has gone to crap ever since Michelle Malkin sold out to the highest bidder.

More on the guv here. When he first ran, he was picked because he had really effective ads about being "the nerd" (making fun of his computer company background), and why it might be a good idea to send in a CEO nerd instead of a long term politician to turn the state around. He was a former consultant for one of the big firms, thus had an extensive business turnaround pedigree.

He sailed through the primary in spite of running against Pete Hoekstra and someone from the SE part of the state with a lot of clout. He handily won against a rather weak Dem opponent in the general election. The Dems had no bench strength, and they still don't.

He avoided all social issues in his campaign and kept the focus on how the economy sucked in MI and how the state government was broken. He promised to fix the way the government was run. And he promised to fix the structural deficits.

When he assumed office, he cut a lot of the budget but also put in some small tax increases that were not permanent. And they did something with the state retirement medical benefits because my mother, a retired school teacher, has more copays with her Rx and doctor visits now. She had a totally golden medical retirement plan before, barely paying ANYTHING, even for some very expensive brand name drugs.

I didn't keep up with any other entitlement changes they may have made with the public union employees, so I don't know what kind of progress they are making in that direction.

So while WI was in chaos, and IN had disappearing Dems, and OH unions pushed back and beat down the GOP reforms, Snyder just kept focusing on fixing the broken government and balancing our budget. It helps that we gave him a GOP majority in both houses, and enough of a majority that the Dems can't flee to avoid votes.

So as the unions began to get defeated in WI and IN, and with the successful push back in OH, I really believe the national unions wanted to start a rust belt firewall to prevent right to work from spreading north. Since MI had ignored the issue, I think the unions believed that our governor would be a pushover and they mistakenly believed that the unions had more support in the general population than they really do.

These union morons here no longer represent over 30% of the workforce and of the blue collar, a majority of the workers in manufacturing and other "hands on" type of work. Those days are long gone. When I was an engineer at a GM plant in the south, MI had car plants everywhere, both assembly, fabrication, and supplier plants. Now MI has empty buildings and these empty buildings also represent all of the lost union jobs. These empty buildings are all over the state, not just in the SE part of the state. They just finished tearing down a facility 6 miles from my house that used to employ 4,000 union workers. It was shut down when Obama "saved" GM. Now it is a bare field.

Unfortunately, I am the only conservative in my family. Reagan inspired me and I turned my back from my blue collar, union roots as I learned about freedom, liberty and how conservatism protects both. However, ALL of my family members voted against that ballot proposal that the unions tried to shove down our throats last month that would have put union mandatory membership into our constitution.

These family members represent retired GM workers on the east side of the state, several retired teachers, a retired postal union member, a doctor who is in full support of Obamacare, etc. None of them wanted this in our constitution. I suspect that half of them would support closed shop, mandatory union membership if they got to vote on that separately, but not in the constitution. The rest of us are totally against mandatory union membership mostly because it is just a money laundering scheme to elect democrats and further bring socialism into our society.

So MI is, in its own modest way, carving at the beast that we need to tame to prevent total tyranny and begin to regain our liberty.

Don't think that because this state voted for Obama TWICE (head smack), and have 2 completely awful Harry Reid butt kissers as our Dem Senators, that we are a lost cause.

The tea party here went to work after 2010 and began at the local level. We have tea partiers in local and regional offices, as well as in the state legislature. We have a strong bench coming up.

My Congressman, until January, is Justin Amash. Good grief, his conservative voting record got him kicked off his committee by Boner and his corrupt RINOS. My city and the adjacent city got moved over to Pete Hoekstra's old district and that House rep is also a tea partier.

We have 9 GOP reps and 5 Dem House peeps going to Congress in January. Because of the majority minority rules, we will always probably have at least 3 Dems from this state, but maybe if the GOP can ever get its act together and find more Allen Wests, we can fix that too. However, just give up on Detroit. All of those politicans there are just down right looney tunes. The crazy ones manage to stay in their office and the other ones end up in the slammer.

Snyder is preparing to take over the Detroit finances, but he knows there is small tolerance for using our money from the west side of the state to bail out those morons in Detroit.

And back to that whiny Dem telling Obama to withhold mass transit money. I ask you, who needs mass transit? No one who works is left in Detroit. They have blocks and blocks and blocks of empty houses, to the point where they want to shut off 75% of the street lights!!!

It would be cheaper to just tear down all of the neighborhoods to bare land, move everyone to one area, and put them all in housing there. Have farmers grow stuff in the rest of the city. That is how far gone the Detroit area is due to complete irresponsible mismanagement by liberals.

Actually I haven't seen that much backup when crossing the Ambassador bridge and I have done that during the traditional rush hours. Granted, I haven't done it in the past year, but I doubt that traffic has increased that much in this Obama economy. The bridge is not widely supported outside of the governor's office and perhaps those at the public trough in the Detroit area. The rest of us in MI don't want to be saddled with the debt to pay for this bridge. They complain about the traffic to get to the ambassador bridge, but that problem exists because the state has refused to connect the freeways to the existing bridge. There is some sort of huge pi$$ing match between the state and the private bridge owners. It would be cheaper to fix that problem.

The whiney Dem Senate leader was just on Greta and was spinning like a top. She kept complaining about the process, trying to make this sound like it is similar to the WI debacle, rather than focusing on the substance of the issue.

She keeps saying we need to have a "conversation" about the right to join or not join a union, and is open to listening to all sides. When Greta pinned her down on does she support choice for union membership, she said she was totally opposed to this choice. So Greta asked her why she wanted to have a conversation if she is totally against the bill, what would it accomplished. The whiny Democrat then began the tap dance spin again, complaining about the process of the legislation.

Greta didn't call her out on this. The whiny dem then complained that the police and fire fighters were exempt from the bill. She said that the GOP is against women because teachers, nurses, and social workers were not exempt from the bill and that is the traditional woman work force. Wow, what a victim mentality.

And again she is a total hypocrite about choice for women. The Dems want to give women the choice to kill babies in the womb, but NOT have a choice to pay union dues and be forced to be in a union to keep a job.

How do they justify such insanity?

Actually I haven’t seen that much backup when crossing the Ambassador bridge and I have done that during the traditional rush hours. Granted, I haven’t done it in the past year, but I doubt that traffic has increased that much in this Obama economy. The bridge is not widely supported outside of the governor’s office and perhaps those at the public trough in the Detroit area. The rest of us in MI don’t want to be saddled with the debt to pay for this bridge. They complain about the traffic to get to the ambassador bridge, but that problem exists because the state has refused to connect the freeways to the existing bridge. There is some sort of huge pi$$ing match between the state and the private bridge owners. It would be cheaper to fix that problem.

holding back federal money for a new international bridge project to Canada and a badly needed mass-transit program in ailing Detroit.

And I think the reason for the mass transit proposal in Detroit is because that's where the money has to go, public transportation. Actually Detroit's sucks big time and it's nothing new. Detroit has relied on cars and expressways forever and allowed their public transportation to be non-existant, even when it was booming. Not saying we should spend money on this but I can see the need.

The bridge, now that's a whole other story. For some background, it's opposed by the owner, largest stake holder Moroun in the Ambassador bridge. Now he has given lots of money to Repub candidates and has gotten the support of the Koch brothers. But I'm skeptical of whether he really supports the Tea Party or is just using them to get his way. Actually I'm not skeptical, I know he's only in it for the money. He's pushing the idea that the bridge should be privately owned.
I mean, come on, since when do bridges not receive some public funding? And before everyone goes all small government on me, this bridge isn't just for Detroit.
Few would deny the traffic jams on the Ambassador are anything other than epic. One-quarter of the truck freight between the U.S. and Canada and more than 7 million vehicles a year traverse the bridge, according to the Public Border Operators Assn. Delays at the crossing cost Ford alone $13.7 million in lost productivity in 2010, concludes a forthcoming report by the Center for Automotive Research.

Snyder wants Michigan and Canada to hire a contractor to build and run another Detroit River bridge just two miles south. The project would generate 10,000 construction jobs, the Michigan Transportation Dept. forecasts. While the contractor would be responsible for cobbling together the $950 million in financing for the bridge, Canada has offered to lend Michigan up to $550 million to build connecting roads. “This is Canada’s No. 1 national infrastructure priority,” says Roy Norton, the nation’s consul general in Detroit.

We don't need that bridge. We have a privately run bridge there already.

I am so damn proud of the state GOP to hit this issue now and getting it passed quickly. Those of us on the west side of MI want to tell Detroit to go pound sand anyway.

Our guv is a very rich man so the threat of a whiny dem state senator to challenge him in 2014 , meh. If anything, the guv will get more votes. He ran as a moderate anyway, so taking this issue on is a nice bonus for conservatives. He is the former Gateway CEO and this is his first political office. He ran to make the state more biz friendly and fiscally solvent. He has been very pragmatic in his cautious approach towards the unions. When they stuck their finger in his eye over that ballot initiative to put forced unionization in the state constitution, he took the gloves off.

They can't recall him because then the Lt. Guv takes over and he is a tea party GOP type and Snyder picked him to secure the conservative vote.

Personally, I believe the unions tried to pick this fight in MI to form a rust belt firewall against right to work laws. It has massively backfired on them.

He is not trying to outlaw collective bargaining for public employees, so the unions don't have that big of a case to take back to the voters with any degree of sympathy.

We don’t need that bridge.

They can’t recall him because then the Lt. Guv takes over and he is a tea party GOP type and Snyder picked him to secure the conservative vote.

Personally, I believe the unions tried to pick this fight in MI to form a rust belt firewall against right to work laws. It has massively backfired on them.

He is not trying to outlaw collective bargaining for public employees, so the unions don’t have that big of a case to take back to the voters with any degree of sympathy. Again, Snyder is quite the pragmatist. He knows that probably half or more of current union members will drop out on e they can and over time that will dramatically reduce the union power overall.
