I thought Orwell was particularly relevant this morning…So I’ll keep posting quotes from 1984 & Animal Farm etc.

” “they had come to a time when no one dared speak his mind, when fierce, growling dogs roamed everywhere, and when you had to watch your comrades torn to pieces after confessing to shocking crimes.” – Orwell, Animal Farm

Orwell was a labor socialist…Many of these labor socialists were dis-enchanted during the Spanish Civil War and WWII.

They had a romantic vision of the Russian Revolution because the socialist propaganda combined with their willful blindness prevented them from accepting the facts of the consequences of Marxism.

This is the problem with zealots…Adams saw it but it took decades for Jefferson to admit Adams was right.

Orwell regained his skepticism and his criticism of Tyranny is his legacy…But he also drank heavily to ummmm…manage.

Progressives love these books because it allows them a handy vehicle to name an enemy…But they miss entirely the problemo.

It’s not new.

“Yep Son,We have met the enemy and He is Us” – Pogo.

Astounding, isn’t it, that leftists and minorities simply refuse to grasp that what ‘our side’ is fighting for is THEIR freedom as well as ours.
Shutting down ‘opposition groups’ means they too cannot benefit from smaller gubmint, less taxation, more freedom.

I think the Republicans are playing into Democrat hands by constantly complaining about the promotion of Sarah Hall Ingram, former head of the IRS tax exempt division, to head up the IRS’s administration of Obamacare. Instead they should be focused on how the IRS entity as a whole, which would include any of the “low level rogues” the Democrats are trying to put the blame on, is untrustworthy and incapable of overseeing the implementation or administration of Obamacare. If the Democrats want to use the excuse that low level underlings were to blame then let’s make sure they never have the same opportunity again to target conservative groups in their position of power in the IRS.

The individual pursuit of Ingram as “the one in charge” gives Obama an easy out. He can fire her and then proclaim, as always, “It’s time to move on”.

He can’t fire the IRS. Wise up GOP, make them the target. Better yet, insist the IRS be removed from administering Obamacare. Do we really need an American gestapo prying into our private lives?

Orwell was fighting the class system as much as anything else…For Brits it’s this class system that is at the heart of their confusion.

This is why socialism is doomed in America and always will be as long as Americans hold onto their fundamental American Nature…We rebelled against the Class System…We built a legal system to ensure individual rights granted to each of us by our creator.

We are messy to our cousins…But Liberty is always a bit messy.

Yep.

“In a way, the world−view of the Party imposed itself most successfully on people incapable of understanding it. They could be made to accept the most flagrant violations of reality, because they never fully grasped the enormity of what was demanded of them, and were not sufficiently interested in public events to notice what was happening. By lack of understanding they remained sane. They simply swallowed everything, and what they swallowed did them no harm, because it left no residue behind, just as a grain of corn will pass undigested through the body of a bird.” – Orwell, 1984

dogsoldier on May 19, 2013 at 10:51 AM

maybe..

but it feels more organic to me.. the hubris of the self inflated reacting in outrage that a mere mortal QUESTION them…. gasp

I’ve seen that in people before.. usually someone affluent caught shop lifting.. the self righteous rage at the indignity of it.. till the cops get there and their pockets were turned out..

then.. it was usually tears..

“You ruined my life”… wavering finger pointed.. ah well no.. it was my job, and rich thieves offended me on a much higher scale, than survival thieves ever did..

I can admit it now, but we caught a young lady putting formula in her purse, not an unusual item to take, it’s expensive, and there is a black market in it. The catch was as we walked her up front her older child was at the waiting area near the door with a baby carrier next to her. and yes, the baby was hungry..

Gut check time..

So we did the only thing that let us sleep at night, I had a toddler and infant at home myself.. so we rounded up the entire front end staff, and we passed the hat,.. bought what she took plus three more cans, and then a 40 dollar food gift card.. with this admonishment.. We know where you are Miss, really, don’t do this again, you’ll loose your babies.. and if you ever have dire need again.. talk to us..

we’ll find a way..

she never stole again..

off topic sure.. but, of 31 years watching, studying people, learning the meanings of even minor inflections, facial tics.. you become pretty adept at reading what is going through somebodies mind.. their mood if nothing else, but often, a type of thought becomes common to a particular reaction, or set or reactions.. a kind of sense.. a vibe.. cops learn it.. some teachers.. parents.. anyone who works with a lot of people..

The vibe I get, is the outrage is genuine.. because they really think they did nothing wrong.. which tells you a lot about their moral compass.

This. The democratics have given us, on a Silver platter, a powerful new angle of attack to use to throw back the slavery of Obamacare. We must make the most of this.

slickwillie2001 on May 19, 2013 at 11:01 AM

If we can’t police even the lowest clerks working at IRS then everyone in the department is a potential law-breaker. It’s an impossible task to monitor all of them, leaving only two solutions.

1. Prohibit the IRS in it’s entirety from administering Obamacare.

So then, who’s left that we can trust to administer it? Nobody.

2. Repeal Obamacare.

fogw on May 19, 2013 at 11:18 AM

I’d only modify that first one to be something like “Eliminate the IRS entirely.” Time to kill it and replace it with something incredibly simple and impossible to politicize. No exemptions, no exceptions, no withholding, no employer portion, 10% flat tax across the board, file on a postcard and send your payment in monthly.

Simple. People will also gain a new understanding of how much they actually pay. And it’ll help starve the beast all at the same time.

All the media attention is focused on a $250 Caucasian Achievement and Recognition Scholarship offered by Mroszczyk and the BU chapter of the College Republicans. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher; they must write two essays; and, here’s the kicker, they must be at least one-quarter Caucasian.

The application itself offers an explanation: “We believe that racial preferences in all their forms are perhaps the worst form of bigotry confronting America today.”

According to Mroszczyk, his group is offering the scholarship to point out “how ridiculous it is to have any sort of racially based scholarship.”

At BU, for example, students who are at least one-quarter Hispanic can apply for a National Hispanic Recognition Scholarship.

“There are plenty of poor, white, academically gifted students who need that money just as much,” Mroszczyk said.

Resist We Much on May 19, 2013 at 11:34 AM

Here are the dem talking points from MTP with DNC dave and the latest Axelrod wannabe dan pfeiffer that I excerpted from one of my posts over at FR.

1. The biggest and best used both on the IRS scandal and Benghazi is let’s make sure it never happens again Pfeiffer/axelJr. used this one four or five times I lost count his cadence is so quick.

2.The “its under investigation, we can’t comment” once again used by a supposed independent investigation of the IRS debacle and the FBI investigation at Benghazi no one believes either one but they still use it.

3.It’s all Issas’ fault, they blame Daryl Issa on everything saying he had advance knowledge of the IRS debacle and they knew nothing. Tough sell but they still sell it anyway.

4.He’s a Bush appointee–any time they can find someone Bush appointed evidently anything that guy does even though he’s now working for ozero his misdeeds are all due to Bush it’s all Bush’s fault ever heard that one?

5.The doctored e-mails are all the fault of the CIA, not us. Once again tough to sell but they keep trying.

6. It’s All Republicans fault–”they are trying to drag us into the swamp.” A bit of hypocrisy here but they will sell anything if the public will buy.

““The real power, the power we have to fight for night and day, is not power over things, but over men.’ He paused, and for a moment assumed again his air of a schoolmaster questioning a promising pupil: ’How does one man assert his power over another, Winston?’

Winston thought. ’By making him suffer,’ he said.

’Exactly. By making him suffer. Obedience is not enough. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own?
Power is in inflicting pain and humiliation. Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing. Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined.
A world of fear and treachery is torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon,a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself.
Progress in our world will be progress towards more pain. The old civilizations claimed that they were founded on love or justice.

Ours is founded upon hatred.

In our world there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph, and self-abasement.
Everything else we shall destroy everything. Already we are breaking down the habits of thought which have survived from before the Revolution.

We have cut the links between child and parent, and between man and man, and between man and woman. No one dares trust a wife or a child or a friend any longer.
But in the future there will be no wives and no friends. Children will be taken from their mothers at birth, as one takes eggs from a hen. The sex instinct will be eradicated. Procreation will be an annual formality like the renewal of a ration card. We shall abolish the orgasm. Our neurologists are at work upon it now. There will be no loyalty, except loyalty towards the Party. There will be
no love, except the love of Big Brother. There will be no laughter, except the laugh of triumph over a defeated enemy. There will be no art, no literature, no science. When we are omnipotent we shall have no more need of science.

There will be no distinction between beauty and ugliness.

There will be no curiosity,no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed.” – Orwell, 1984

Yes, I’ve been guilty of responding as well, sometimes smacking trolls is fun, but HAL has shown itself to be a liar, ill-informed, and incapable of actual serious dialog — it only regurgitates talking points. If we all just ignore it, it will either start posting more outrageous stuff to the point of rising to the troll-ban threshold or it will go away.
