Orwell was a labor socialist…Many of these labor socialists were dis-enchanted during the Spanish Civil War and WWII.
They had a romantic vision of the Russian Revolution because the socialist propaganda combined with their willful blindness prevented them from accepting the facts of the consequences of Marxism.

Thanks.. I do understand there are differences in the British Labour Party as opposed to hard socialists, but Brit politics were never my strong suit in history. I read everything on the US I could get on WW II and Korea, Vietnam.. so the education is appreciated.

I think the Republicans are playing into Democrat hands by constantly complaining about the promotion of Sarah Hall Ingram, former head of the IRS tax exempt division, to head up the IRS’s administration of Obamacare. Instead they should be focused on how the IRS entity as a whole, which would include any of the “low level rogues” the Democrats are trying to put the blame on, is untrustworthy and incapable of overseeing the implementation or administration of Obamacare. If the Democrats want to use the excuse that low level underlings were to blame then let’s make sure they never have the same opportunity again to target conservative groups in their position of power in the IRS.
The individual pursuit of Ingram as “the one in charge” gives Obama an easy out. He can fire her and then proclaim, as always, “It’s time to move on”.
He can’t fire the IRS. Wise up GOP, make them the target. Better yet, insist the IRS be removed from administering Obamacare. Do we really need an American gestapo prying into our private lives?

Strange he wasn’t required reading at my High School, there was a smattering of classic poets, Longfellow, Whitman, Shakespear of course, the rest were electives..
I chose Heinlein, Asimov, Bova, Saberhagen, Jules Verne… a smattering of lesser known authors…
all well received, I read some on occasion now, but not like I used to… maybe I’ll go back and look at what I missed.

I can admit it now, but we caught a young lady putting formula in her purse, not an unusual item to take, it’s expensive, and there is a black market in it. The catch was as we walked her up front her older child was at the waiting area near the door with a baby carrier next to her. and yes, the baby was hungry..

So we did the only thing that let us sleep at night, I had a toddler and infant at home myself.. so we rounded up the entire front end staff, and we passed the hat,.. bought what she took plus three more cans, and then a 40 dollar food gift card.. with this admonishment.. We know where you are Miss, really, don’t do this again, you’ll loose your babies.. and if you ever have dire need again.. talk to us..
we’ll find a way..

off topic sure.. but, of 31 years watching, studying people, learning the meanings of even minor inflections, facial tics.. you become pretty adept at reading what is going through somebodies mind.. their mood if nothing else, but often, a type of thought becomes common to a particular reaction, or set or reactions.. a kind of sense.. a vibe.. cops learn it.. some teachers.. parents.. anyone who works with a lot of people..
The vibe I get, is the outrage is genuine.. because they really think they did nothing wrong.. which tells you a lot about their moral compass.

If we can’t police even the lowest clerks working at IRS then everyone in the department is a potential law-breaker. It’s an impossible task to monitor all of them, leaving only two solutions.
1. Prohibit the IRS in it’s entirety from administering Obamacare.
So then, who’s left that we can trust to administer it? Nobody.
2. Repeal Obamacare.

I’d only modify that first one to be something like “Eliminate the IRS entirely.” Time to kill it and replace it with something incredibly simple and impossible to politicize. No exemptions, no exceptions, no withholding, no employer portion, 10% flat tax across the board, file on a postcard and send your payment in monthly.
Simple. People will also gain a new understanding of how much they actually pay. And it’ll help starve the beast all at the same time.

I know this is hard, but the only solution to this is to ignore HAL, for some reason ,trolls have special privileges here and don’t get banned very often.
Yes, I’ve been guilty of responding as well, sometimes smacking trolls is fun, but HAL has shown itself to be a liar, ill-informed, and incapable of actual serious dialog — it only regurgitates talking points. If we all just ignore it, it will either start posting more outrageous stuff to the point of rising to the troll-ban threshold or it will go away.

We are both probably correct. It will vary from one member of the regime to the next. I’m sure some of them will be exactly as you say. My experience runs the other way. I’ve known quite a few who knew what they were doing and acted that way when caught.
I have to second this request. IMHO HAL crossed the line and needs to go.

I propose we create a permanent sticky thread where all the trolls and anti-trolls can go and yell at each other and waste each other’s time.
That way we’d keep these threads clean of all the juvenile nonsense and stay somewhat centered to the topic at hand.

So HAL thinks that all dissenters of the regime must be silenced by any means necessary. He says that the dissenters are the minority so they have no say and must be eliminated. Yet, he is the minority here and is allowed to spew whatever vile things he wants to say and is not silenced. If one of us went on huffpo or kos we would be gone in a NY minute, because they are so Tolerant. It boggles the mind.
