U.N. optimistic the U.S. will finally hop on that climate-change bandwagon

posted at 2:31 pm on November 24, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Ugh, here we go again: Self-righteous globalism-loving environmental zealots hellbent on getting developed nations to voluntarily “contract” their relatively prosperous economies, ostensibly in order to combat climate change, while trying to dictate the type of “green” development they’d like to see happen in poorer countries.

As I’ve noted before, environmentalists are hopefully sniffing the air now that President Obama has won a second term, banking on the more “flexible” Obama’s willingness to once again take up the mantle of climate change — especially in the wake of this past summer’s droughts and superstorm Sandy. From the AP:

[A]s a re-elected president talks about global warming again, climate activists are cautiously optimistic that the U.S. will be more than a disinterested bystander when the U.N. climate talks resume Monday with a two-week conference in Qatar. …

They will focus on side issues, like extending the Kyoto protocol – an expiring emissions pact with a dwindling number of members – and ramping up climate financing for poor nations.

They will also try to structure the talks for a new global climate deal that is supposed to be adopted in 2015, a process in which American leadership is considered crucial. …

“We need the U.S. to engage even more,” European Union Climate Commissioner Connie Hedegaard told The Associated Press. “Because that can change the dynamic of the talks.”

Yes, you do need the United States, because our economic prosperity that you semi-secretly hate so much is what provides the lion’s share of the funding for the United Nations and is the reason that so many climate scientists and environment officials even have jobs. Why is it that all of these environmentalist gurus just can’t grasp the concept that environmental quality and a high standard of living are not mutually exclusive? A thriving and robust economy is what’s going to bring about the technological innovations, efficiency, and renewable energy sources that they’re looking for — and putting self-imposed limits on what we can and can’t do is only going to bring about completely unnecessary misery.

As Jazz wrote this morning, the U.S. is standing on the edge of a potential economic boom that could be propelled forward by our vastly abundant energy resources recently unlocked by new technologies — and the possibility of the Obama administration putting quixotic restrictions on our economy to comply with globalists’ ideas of “sustainability”-virtue, does not bode well.

If I had a New Years wish, it would be for the un to leave the US and every single person involved leave also! I detest that power grabbing, doesn’t give a flit about the US or Israel bunch!

The only reason they has anything to do with the US is because we fling billions and billions at them every year! And it still isn’t enough for them! Just wait till the gun ban gets done? That should be special?

Watch for your city and county trying to push the sustainable development agenda..aka, Agenda 21.

It’s a giant land grab through regulation of private and public land.

Goal…? Drive humans to city population centers and create a giant wilderness that is eventually off limits to human.

Think 1984/Hunger Games.

Indeed they grasp it just fine. They also understand they are selling snake oil. But they also understand that is the only way to gain worldwide power.

All this is is the new USSR dressed up in capitalism lite to fool us.

You don’t need to look forward to some imagined dystopian future, you only need to look backwards to feudal Europe and England when you had the King’s Lands that held abundant resources and wildlife but upon which trespassing by the serfs was a death sentence. That’s what they are looking at trying to implement.

… and it won’t be off limits to humans. It will be off limits to most humans. Just like the King’s Lands, although the commoners will be relegated to the teeming crowded cities, the favored few, the Hollywood stars, the Government elite, and the Government’s Land Stewards will be free to enjoy those lands and the bounty for their purposes.

The only thing that ever gave the UN legitimacy was that it was planted in the US. Take it out of the US and take us out of it and it is nothing. We finance it. We legitimize it. And it is against everything America stands for.

You people just refuse to learn from your mistakes! This country is imploding because, no one will learn from their mistakes, but doubles down on the their failures. The bigger th failure, the more uou want to justify trying it again! for 100 yrs, this country has been failing just like Europe, only conservatives made the process slower. Now you’re ready to go full steam ahead, into proven failure and you think that blaming someone else, somehow makes any difference! good luck with that rinos/eSTABrepubs. Let us know how that works out for you, as you try to remove the Dems knife in your back! It’s what you deserve! The way you scumbags(GOP) have betrayed this country & it’s people, you’re going to get exactly what you deserve from the Treasonous Left! We will be the ones laughing at you, getting from the left, what you have given Conservatives & Libertarians! May you reap the same Betrayal, you gave the American People!

Who in their right mind in this day and age is focused on “climate change” as something about which mankind can do a damn thing?

The hubris.

Laughable.

Contemptible.

The highest ever CO2 levels ever happened long long before the first coal fired Bessemer oven was lit…by thousands and thousands of years…..and our most pronounced episodes of rapid and deadly climate change happened, a number of times, long before homo erectus first tired to stand on its own two feet.

If anyone still “believes” in the religion of global climate change…they really need to be directed toward competent professional mental health resources…today!

This “movement” has never been about saving the planet…it is and has always been and will remain a means to re-distribute income and resources from those who “have” to those who “have not.”

In essence, this climate change BS is the core belief of Progressivism…and in that, as we all know and fondly desire, we need a well-educated super smart elite to take care of us and make sure that all of us are treated fairly and all of our real needs are met and our baser needs are somehow driven from our systems…as in H.G. Well’s “Things to Come.”

To my Progressive brethren out there…and their useful idiot companions, let me say, that dog don’t hunt no more.

Never did, to begin with.

In addition to driving people into the urban areas, the government’s attack on the internal combustion engine will make it harder and harder for the average American to afford an automobile. Automobiles that comply with all the CAFE standards will become smaller and smaller, and more expensive. They envision everyone living in the city and using public transportation. This would make the population much easier to control.

The image of the rugged individual American in his pickup truck is one image the left definitely wants to destroy.

TarheelBen on November 24, 2012 at 3:24 PM

Why would we need to extend the Kyoto Protocols? We beat those targets, and we are the only nation who did – despite never approving them.

The Greenies’ playbook is really getting old and tiresome. Maybe if they had to get real jobs, instead of living off of grant money…

Elections have consequences. Barackaclaus clearly got the tree-huggers onboard by gifting them the mythology that mankind can control global warming by destroying the US econoomy.

I hate every filthy bastard who voted for Obama. They destroyed this nation and are too greedy and selfish to realize what they did. May they be the first to die starving in the streets.

A CAT 1 hurricane is hardly a “superstorm’.

Tell them that the US has reduced carbon emissions further than any other nation on the planet. Tell them the technological advantages of a semi-free market far outpace the globalist redistribution policies of a power hungry world body that is, essentially, useless. Tell them that the US has achieved true environmental goals, not Marxist inspired wealth destruction.

Then tell them to pound sand and pull all of their funding.

Reality? Barqui Telewoobie McMuslim will bow and submit.

There is no constitutional authority given the federal government to address weather. If such an attempt is made, law suits can and will be filed to halt any such stupidity. If this is pushed, the “climate change” fools will be exposed for what they are. Fools.

Bruno Strozek on November 24, 2012 at 3:47 PM

That probably depends on context. If you are one of those poor people in New Jersey or Long Island who saw their homes wiped out by Sandy, the storm was “super” enough.

And having lived on the Gulf Coast for many years, I am not particularly impressed with CAT 1 storms. But, if you are living in NJ where CAT 1 storms are rarer, then it becomes a bigger thing. What really matters here is the utter incompetence of FEMA no matter what the slobbering fat boy said when he endorsed the rat-eared wonder for a second term.

Ha, ha, ha … a “new climate deal” that the US would join. Come on, what a joke. Surely our elected officials and State Department are far too smart to fall for this. Right? … uh, hello?

This is cogently written, and needs to be repeated.

This is also apt, from the pen of Ann Coulter:

Environmentalists’ energy plan is the repudiation of America and Christian destiny, which is Jet Skis, steak on the electric grill, hot showers, and night skiing.

We can, and will, grow and innovate toward a better world.
We can’t, and won’t, shrink our way to greatness.

The EPA will never admit snowmobiles and viagra did more for the environment than forbidding us to drill for oil in Alaska. The herds are so big now there is worry that there won’t be enough grazing areas to support the size of the herds because snow sleds replaced dog teams that needed to be fed as well as the Eskimos. A family needs one or two caribou per year without the dog teams to feed.
Viagra replaced all the hippo horns and other magic potions thought to enhance the males of the world.
