Interesting point about the 30+ people who were there. Where are they? I read somewhere that some of them were in the hospital, but that was weeks ago. Isn’t there some way to find out who they are and where they are? I am amazed that we have heard not a word from any of them. Nothing to support finding out about the killings of the men who saved their lives. WHERE ARE THEY?

francesca on November 17, 2012 at 10:55 PM

If they were CIA, I'm guessing they can't come forward because a) it might endanger other work going on in the area (the exposure of their ties to the Agency might endanger locals working with them, etc.), b) they aren't allowed to talk openly about anything like that anyway, and c) since such a small group has firsthand knowledge of what went down, it would be pretty easy for the powers-that-be to identify who leaked the info and mete out punishment accordingly. Also, I doubt members of the press are pushing for any of those people to come forward--and given the rabid pro-Obama stance of most journalists these days, I don't think most of them could be trusted not to "out" any members of the group who might try to comment anonymously on what happened. (Most of this probably applies to any who weren't CIA, too.)

But...I would think it would be awfully hard for those inside their circle who know the truth to think about how readily their friends/colleagues were abandoned by the administration. Maybe we'll eventually see secondhand leaks of info or other kinds of helpful leaks that might ensure something like this never happens again. Or maybe someone will go straight to certain members of Congress--and we won't know that they've been talking until someone from some congressman's office leaks a few details.

You’re president. You’re facing an election battle. You get news that the consulate in Benghazi is under attack, and you know the people there (30+ ?) have almost no security force to repel the attack. You have no way of knowing that only 4 members of the total group will die (and, indeed, you go to sleep before you hear the outcome of the attack…but that’s a rant for another day…).

The addition of victim politics is just another facet of the phony nature of the "leader's image" in a democracy with a mass media.

We used to irrationally hold the belief that all blacks were very stupid and women too weak. They could not get elected or taken seriously in many areas.

Do you think the media and pop culture fed that idea and reinforced it?

Are you really that naive to think there is any way this will be allowed to touch Ozero or Clinton 4?
You waiting for Holder to investigate or something........?

Enjoy your next 4 years, kid. You'll get everything you so richly deserve.

Just curious-what are you Leftist Kids going to do in 2017 when O'bamna leaves office? Methinks there's going to be some massive OWS (O'bamna Withdrawal Syndrome). Probably see folks jumping off bridges and out of windows...

Yup! That is how democracy works my friend. You write off a majority of Americans as moochers, they will write you off by not voting for you. Sucks to be a Romney supporter doesn’t?

Okay...

You're president. You're facing an election battle. You get news that the consulate in Benghazi is under attack, and you know the people there (30+ ?) have almost no security force to repel the attack. You have no way of knowing that only 4 members of the total group will die (and, indeed, you go to sleep before you hear the outcome of the attack...but that's a rant for another day...).

What could make potentially having to explain the brutal massacre of 30 or so Americans in Libya--including an ambassador--a more acceptable outcome than having to explain that a rescue attempt to save the 30 or so failed? Why would you risk--with an election right around the corner--doing absolutely nothing to save those people? (Assuming the absolute worst about Obama's character and competence, a hard-hearted and/or negligent commander-in-chief would still, I think, be sufficiently motivated by public perception to do something and not just rely on a cover-up.)

The cover-up mess is fantastically bizarre and unsettling--and that's even before a Clinton has tried to explain the lies. But given that nothing was done to help the people and that requests for additional security before the attack were basically ignored, the motivation behind the cover-up is understandable--unless the reasons for doing nothing were incredibly strong (but I'm guessing they weren't or else there would have been no reason for such a ridiculous and politically damaging cover-up)...or...unless those incredibly strong reasons--reasons that outweighed the value of 30 or so American lives--mostly involved hiding something which, if it was found out, would lead to something worse than losing an election.
