Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on November 11, 2012 by Allahpundit

A quote from last week’s Sunday OT:

For the Democrats it’ll be the Axelrod and Plouffe Show, now in its 200th week or so. Reason 8,357 to hope Romney wins: If he does, we almost certainly won’t see either of them next Sunday.

You know how that worked out. Headlining “Face the Nation” this morning: The Axelrod victory lap. Expect to hear lots today, and not just from him, about how Obama’s ground game and ingenious microtargeting strategies kept a D+7 electorate at the zenith of Hopenchange in 2008 more or less intact after four years of Obamanomic dreck. There’ll be plenty of chatter too about the GOP’s demographic problem, so naturally Lindsey Graham and Jon Huntsman will appear and reiterate their fervent belief that it’s time to Tory-ize.

Here’s the line-up via National Journal. A glaring omission: Nate Silver. Surely there’s some Sunday host out there who’d benefit from having him patiently explain, once again, that if state polls are accurate in the aggregate, a statistical model that’s based on state polls will also be accurate.

Meet the Press hosts Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY., Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas,.

Face the Nation Obama senior adviser David Axelrod and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)

This Week hosts Sens. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., and Patty Murray, D-Wash.

Fox News Sunday hosts Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., and Sen. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

State of the Union hosts California Gov. Jerry Brown, former Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, former Republican Presidential candidate Jon Huntsman and Campaign for Working Families president Gary Bauer.

this probably means the obama administration won’t touch fox news sunday every again….

cmsinaz on November 11, 2012 at 8:06 AM

I won’t be watching any of those this morning.

22044 on November 11, 2012 at 8:07 AM

yawn, somehow still +7 but they go from winning by 7.2% to 2.5%. I don’t buy they’ll be able to pull this off for anyone other than Obama. That said, who the hell wants to any of this BS? I gave up on these shows years ago.

gsherin on November 11, 2012 at 8:07 AM

Not gonna watch any of them…

OmahaConservative on November 11, 2012 at 8:12 AM

Must you show Axelrod’s smirking, mustached face?

pilamaye on November 11, 2012 at 8:15 AM

Axel Grease would try to spread dirt on Mother Theresa for political gain. It wouldn’t be true, but with the help of the PR Media everyone would believe it.

Deano1952 on November 11, 2012 at 8:20 AM

It’s Veteran’s Day.

Must we be exposed to the visage of someone who’s rancid ideals millions of us have fought and died to eradicate?

Rixon on November 11, 2012 at 8:24 AM

I have better things to do -

church/hockey/soccer/Bears game

Our politicians can go to hades – I am thoroughly disgusted
with the lot of them. There was massive voter fraud and since
I think the repubs engage in this practice as well, only the
democraps perfected the technique on a grand scale for 2012,
nothing will be done about it.

The democraps and repubs are different sides of the same coin.

I don’t want to listen to their lying rhetoric any more. The
one who drives me up the wall is Lindsey Graham.

No thank you. I may not watch TV news of any kind for a year.

I, too, have better things to do: Church/coffee after church/Firefly marathon/Sprint Cup Race/Bears Game. Don’t see how I can fit in the talking heads.

Yeah! Let’s pass amnesty. It worked so well for the Republicans before when Reagan did it.

polarglen on November 11, 2012 at 8:47 AM

I’m not going to watch any of the talking head shows until it is a R gloat fest. M’kay.

However, I’ll say it again. It’s time to go off the fiscal cliff. Let it burn.

Sadly, unlike in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, there is no machine to test out if spoiled voters are rotten.

Illinidiva on November 11, 2012 at 8:47 AM

All I can do to type after five days of steady drinking and while listening to John Derbyshire’s wrap-up on the election.

NBC D, R, D

CBS D, R

ABC R, D

Fox D, R, D, D

CNN D, D, LIB-R, R

According to this shortened lineup:

Dems – 9
GOP – 6
Moderators – D+4

13 to 6 for your liberal media diversity of opinion, or actually 14 to 5 if you count Huntsman as the liberal that I believe him to be.

I need to get some more Jameson for my coffee.

Haven’t watched one minute – literally – of news (not local news, not even FOX) – since late Tuesday night. Certainly won’t be watching any of this drivel today. And in fact, the last few days have been so pleasurable, I’m thinking I won’t watch any news at all for the next four years. If nothing else, not hearing that irritating, mocking cadence of The Messiah will lower my blood pressure.

It is Remembrance Day in Canada. God bless all those serving in the Canadian forces and those gone before.

And let me point out that P.M. Harper respects the troops and has gone to Afghanistan several times, outside the wire.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Nope, not going to spend one second watching the crap today.

All this talk of we need to change and we need to do this now and we shoudlve learned a lesson here. Screw it all.

What lost us the election wasnt hispanics, wasnt blacks. It was too many on our side stayed home. I dont blame Romney, I dont blame anyone but those who sat this election out, just handing it to Obama. If you need someone to hold your hand to the voting booth, in the biggest election of our lives, you’re a moron. If you need someone to recruit you, to come to your door over and over to explain how important this election was, then you are as bad as the idiots who vote Democrat because its trendy or they buy into the lies.

The people I blame the most for this loss, are those on our side who stayed home. They should be ashamed of themselves. Now we have Obama back in, and then have to listen how stupid, racist, sexist our side is and that we need to change drastically. Bunch of bs.

Some people on the far Evangelical right stayed home because they’re basically bigots. I think that that is a huge action item that everyone who posts at Hot Air could take on as a project. I’m assuming that many of us will be going to church later today. Perhaps now is a good time to talk to those members of your church who say bad things about Mormonism or Catholicism or other religions. Point out that this attitude cost us the election and try to convince them that we need to vote for values, regardless of religion. There are high odds that the R nominee in 2016 will be Catholic, not Evangelical, and Rubio has a sort of eclectic religious background, so this might be a problem again.

I called Thelma last night. If I’m going to fly into the sky and destroy a perfectly good Ferrari*, I’m getting plastered and totally mangled in a cheap motel room by Brad Pitt. Ride’em, Cowgirl! Yeehah!

lol! Sorry, if I offended anyone.

* We’re going to have to upgrade from the ’66 Thunderbird, which sounds like the kind of wine-in-a-box my chums in Sixth Form and I used to drink and once, accidentally, burned a hole in the carpet. They don’t call it “rot-gut” for nothing!!! Besides, we can blame it on inflation and let Osama ben Bernanke worry about it. What? Me no worries.

I cant stand any of them including my own senator Chambliss. Lets go ahead let them tax and spend and hit bottom sooner rather than later. I somehow naively believed the hate mongering and Chicago tactics would be seen fir what they were. We’re keeping it local and hunkered down. Enjoying the simple everyday things and glad we’re in a position to strip it all down and survive. Im just sorry my parents who worked so hard all their lives have to see this happen. I dont know how anyone serves and calls this punk Commander in chief.

Guess what?

It’s over.

harlekwin15 on November 11, 2012 at 9:49 AM

No, it’s Wednesday.

New Hotness: Wednesday

Old Hotness: It over. Fini. Done.

In fact, everyday from now until the crash or we get a last minute reprieve is going to be Wednesday. Hump Day. Mondays are bad. 2008 was Monday. Wednesdays suck helplessly. 2012 was Wednesday.

By Mark Steyn

Amid the ruin and rubble of the grey morning after, it may seem in poor taste to do anything so vulgar as plug the new and stunningly topical paperback edition of my book, After America — or, as Dennis Miller retitled it on the radio the other day, Wednesday. But the business of America is business, as Calvin Coolidge said long ago in an alternative universe, and I certainly could use a little. So I’m going to be vulgar and plug away.

The central question of Wednesday — I mean, After America — is whether the Brokest Nation in History is capable of meaningful course correction. On Tuesday, the American people answered that question. The rest of the world will make its dispositions accordingly.

In the weeks ahead, Democrats and Republicans will reach a triumphant “bipartisan” deal to avert the fiscal cliff through some artful bookkeeping mechanism that postpones Taxmageddon for another year, or six months, or three, when they can reach yet another triumphant deal to postpone it yet again. Harry Reid has already announced that he wants to raise the debt ceiling — or, more accurately, lower the debt abyss — by $2.4 trillion before the end of the year, and no doubt we can look forward to a spectacular “bipartisan” agreement on that, too. It took the government of the United States two centuries to rack up its first trillion dollars in debt. Now Washington piles on another trillion every nine months. Forward!

If the dems can track and control their electorate as they claim, they will be tracking and trying to control the rest of us in very soon.

We got some a**hole bringing in pastries at work for 3 days straight..screaming and hooting in my predominantly Union workfloor. I firmly believe if Romney won and I brought pastries in, I would definitely be told that “this is not appropraite”…this is what the USA has turned into. On another note, my flexible spending renewal notice came in, and thanks to Obamacare, the maximum contribution in 2013 is now $2500 instead of $5000. This means a tax increase for me of $990.These Liberal/Socialist jackasses no longer care about deficits, soldiers being assasinated (again today) by uniformed Afghans, corruption, cover-ups..etc. God help Israel.

And some of the Christians decided to side with the Romans this time around, I guess. You can go with all analogies that you want but there was some far right Evangelicals that decided they were more horrified by the prospect of a Mormon President than by the government regulating Christian freedom. This has to stop going forward or it is going to be a huge issue for us in the future. None of the leading R contenders for 2016 are Protestants, and Rubio has an odd religious background which includes some Mormonism in it. So I think that it is really necessary to have a talk with fellow church members about their prejudices and to point out what it cost us. It’s important to start now.

Illinidiva on November 11, 2012 at 10:36 AM

What lost us the election wasn’t Hispanics, wasn’t blacks. It was too many on our side stayed home

Right 1000%. this came up in talk radio circles earlier this week as well. the 100 percenters pouted and stayed home. Also Dick Morris, Michael Barone and others had stated that we already had a landslide in our favor. So even more stayed home, dumb dumb dumb. Lets hope we don’t do it again.

How the fsck didn’t we not know the following

Holly Petraeus is a military scion, a financial warrior allied with Elizabeth Warren—and now, the wife of a publicly shamed general. Nina Strochlic on the woman behind the scandal.

How Petraeus was every thought to be anything but a stooge …

Right but here’s the problem.

The ‘rules” here at hotAir are a tad ambiguous and finding out what Ed and Allah’s response to the “narrow win” by Obama in the PV is is not a game I’m going to play again.

We just tried it in NICE GOP mode and lost.

I don’t think HotAir is “Plumber GOP” central.

I’ll be around but i won’t be voluminous. You know what I want but won’t get probably because we lack the will?

I want chris matthews in fear of my getting him arrested for a DUI, exposing his boy or girl toy, or afraid I’ll get to the bottom of any funny money games he plays.

The GOP gets Lee Atwater back instead of Karl Rove my purse is theirs.

I get another “genius” I am investing in water filters and going off grid.

This gun’s retired.

I told you Petraeus was a Democrat.. But he did a brilliant job in Iraq and with his counterinsurgency strategy.
