He is in a win win situation. If he does nothing, they have no second act, and he can claim that ‘they’ are stopping him.

If the Republicans play along, the can blame them for not doing everything and promise the rest. The Republicans will get nothing from reaching out, just as Bush got nothing for his pains, in a similar situation on the civil rights extension.

What no one talks about is the illegals take potential jobs from the bottom, which is mostly poor and black. No one cares about that.

As to assimilation, check out CA or NV or well anywhere and then tell me to my face that you would like to live among them.

Why does he think that will make the Hispanics suddenly fall in love with the R party anyway? No, we lost them, just like we lost the blacks, and for much the same reason. You don’t leave your date at the dance for someone else.

The dunces who promote the concept we have now of illegal aliens (as in “we should round up all those guys standing out in front of Home Depot and send them home”) have damaged conservatism — for their position flies in the face of the individual rights for which conservatism has always stood. That concept of individual rights was what drove Lincoln to oppose slavery, and which also drove him to denounce the nativist party (the Know Nothings) of his day — the guys who would restrict immigration to those who look and act like them.

These illegal aliens in our land will have legal children, and those legal children will vote Democrat — for generations — in spite of the fact that they otherwise are conservatives, for, in the end, all politics are personal. You diss my mommy, and I diss you.

When I hear other conservatives tell me “well, it’s the law” or “what part of illegal alien don’t you understand?” I say that I understand the concept of the just law and the need to ignore unjust ones (or, in a democracy, repeal them) just as our forebears who ran the Underground Railroad (deliberately disobeying the Fugitive Slave Law) understood things had to be.

We Republicans tend to be law abiding citizens, but we do understand the need to ignore unjust laws. Why, look at the fight going on about the freedom of conscience restrictions of Obamacare — aren’t we fighting tooth and nail against them? Given a choice, will you yield and buy the abortions the Democrats want you to buy?

We’re afraid of being overrun by people who don’t think like us or talk like us — it’s why we lost the Asian vote — another natural set of conservatives. They remember the Alien Exclusion Acts and the Chinese Exclusion Acts and what those did to their forefathers and, in spite of the fact that those laws were built by Democrats, and in spite of the fact that Executive Order 9066 (putting citizens of Japanese ancestry into concentration camps) was an FDR Democrat construct — it’s now the Republicans who are tarred with the nativist and discriminatory labels that all of these stains on our history comprise. And we’ve done it to ourselves — the Democrats didn’t have to say a word.

Of course, that fear of nonassimilation is unjustified — look at generations 2 or 3 of every wave of immigrants — indeed even huge hunks of generation 1. They understand the American Dream, even as some of us would deny it to them. They remember, and they will vote against us, even if it damages other things they hold dear.

That’s the problem of having only two parties — for each of them has to oppose the other on nearly every issue — and we are on the wrong side on this one.

Why doesn’t the national GOP and the Republican Party apparatus in the states, especially those with a large Hispanic population, start pumping some money and resources to these Hispanic Republican organizations to enable THEM to reach out to the Hispanics that are legally able to vote?

btw, those organizations also accept donations from private citizens, IYKWIM.

Are you starting to get the idea that the people you think are conservatives aren’t really conservatives?

We do not need “Comprehensive” Immigration reform.
What we need to do is enforce the Immigration Laws on our books.
We have already seen what giving people things for fee produces. Rewarding illegal behavior is not the way to go!

We have to get rid of mush minds like Boehner and elect people with an appreciation for our Constitution and a willingness to protect our boarders.

I for one am sick of it! We lost because a Conservative fiscal message was not put forward. Romney, a fine man I voted for, was not able to deliver the message.

I live in an area with a number of both private and public universities, and every single one offers degrees in Women’s Studies and in some derivation of Queer Studies. There are entire “academic” associations dedicated to them. So apparently, more than a few.

I’m sure there are. I’m just suggesting that the number of students majoring in those disciplines is relatively trivial.

And, to be sure, I’m in favor of these and other impractical majors. College shouldn’t necessarily be a trade school, and there is value in studying Amazonian tribesmen, Byzantine sculpture and closeted gays in 9th Century monasteries.

I’m just glad we got one of the good guys elected with Cruz. He said in an interview with Telemundo no less, that he would deport all the dreamers who got the Obama amnesty. And may I also add that WE need to start holding the media accountable for their dereliction of duty.

Call them out, in emails, social media, phone calls, letters to the editors, public protests in front of their television studios and newspaper offices.

And most importantly, contacting their advertisers to inform them you will no longer purchase their products and services until THEY put pressure on the outlets their advertising with to – start reporting the news – as it is, not as they want us to think it is.

That’s a darn good question, but looking at the data of college grads who can’t a job beyond Starbucks, then comparing it to various college major offerings, then comparing all of that to the fact that good blue collar jobs are going unfilled due to lack of applicants, all I can say is: Too Many.

Funny that, how voting has consequences, your point was well taken, and this fact remains from this election, that as every military member did or did not vote, they did so with the direst of consequences possible with the outcome, meaning they were literally voting for their life. Isn’t John Boehner in the House in a position to fight implementation of Obamacare by de-funding it? Does anybody think he will do it? I don’t. He already stated today that Obamacare is the law of the land.

Perhaps it’s time for a conservative party. I’m serious.

I have the utmost respect and appreciation for everything he and his family did in order to try to help the country. We need more people like them. I feel emotional about their sudden abrupt departure from the spotlight, but I know they can feel the love and thanks from all the people who voted for him.
