If your plan was to eke out a slim victory then I guess any random event could have swung the election, including a hurricane.

Romney had a number of problems, but immigration wasn't one. His biggest error was not connecting with the conservative base that inspired the 2010 house take-back. Once again the GOP tried to win by ignoring a significant part of the conservative movement that could have helped it.

When will the GOP realize what they are up against? Paid-for union members, in-the-corner trial lawyers, favored environmentalists, tenured "educationalists", in-the-tank journalists and finally that borderless plantation of ignorant racists that vote only for their tribal leaders.

No, not Hurricane Sandy.

Romney lost the day after he failed to respond to the Obama campaign calling him a murderer of the guy who's wife died of cancer. Romney's milquetoast response opened the door for Reid's tax evasion lies, Big Bird, binders, war on women crap.

Sandy also:
1) Gave the media another excuse to backpage any coverage on the Benghazi issue.
2) Reinforced the Romney was another Bush meme -- white patrician rich Republican -- by "demonstrating" 0's "competent" handling of another Katrina. Unfortunately the fool Christie didn't help matters by the premature slobbering in O's direction so he could get a Springsteen high five. On the other hand an attack on 0 would have been played up by the media as politicizing the disaster. But Christie went way overboard.

In retrospect I think it was a complete mistake for Romney not to go after 0 on Benghazi in the third debate. At the time I thought it was a good decision because the facts would eventually surface in time for the election and the flurry of blame taking/obfuscation of facts on the eve of the debate was meant to draw Romney into another media imagined gaffe that could dominate the news instead of the real story. Unfortunately by playing for a draw Romney wound up taking a baton to what should have been a gunfight.

I could believe that the hurricane changed people's minds.
They were scared & suddenly started to think that big govt is a good thing bcs it will save them from their doom.
Then we have the people whom when I ask why they supported Obama or why they supported Mitt, I hear everything the major news networks were saying about either of them.
Truly, the sad problem is the majority of the nation is still listening to the major media & is still letting them tell them what to think of politicians.
Then we have people who vote for dependency as in voting for Santa Clause & one realizes the real fight is to reverse decades of communist indoctrination from public schools & universities.
I'm sure it's no coincidence with the more people getting higher educations compared to more people believing in the failed & evil ideals of communism.
It's just been wrapped up in a better looking package.
Still the same poison.
FDR might not have been a communist himself, but he sure liked a lot of them.

Ok, so I own a bar in Florida, and most of my clientele is 21-30 yr old men and women. I listen to them talk and I hear what they were saying about the election.

Romney was doomed early on due to his lack of response to the smears over the summer. He was viewed as an evil rich guy that shipped jobs overseas.

Secondly, AKIN and his abortion talk. You have no idea how many women openly said they were turned off to the mere idea of Republicans after that. And Mourdock merely affirmed their fears.

Third problem was the shunning of Ron Paul supporters at the convention. After that they were either not voting at all or voting for Obama out of spite. BIG HUGE opportunity wasted there.

Just relaying the info.

Look…Sean Hannity and Rush and Pat Buchanan and all the conservative evangelists are blaming it all on the “free stuff” mentality, but I just don’t buy it.

Free stuff doesn’t explain why 95% of blacks voted for Obama.
Doesn’t explain why 74% of Hispanics did. Or why an overwhelming number of college students, single women, asians, or even uppper-middle class city dwellers did. Not all these people want or need “free stuff”.

Blacks voted for Obama at the 95% clip because of identity politics. But they will always vote for the Dem to get "free stuff."

There have been recent polls of Hispanics where they have shows a big preference for Govt to do more rather than less, so they do want the "free stuff."

College girls/single women want their free birth control.

Asians also prefer larger Govt that does more rather than less.

The "free stuff" reason doesn't explain all the Dem support, but it does explain a decent portion of it.

You might be on to something there…..nevertheless, the “weeping” over Springsteen’s call automatically disqualifies him from ever being POTUS.

As a resident of New Jersey, I think Christie has done a solid job displaying leadership (certainly in comparison to the feckless Nanny Mayor Bloomberg across the river) and decisiveness.

As a citizen of the U.S., I am furious with Christie for basically campaigning for Obama a week before the election.

Oh and if you want to blame Mitt exclusively to make yourself feel better..please explain to me how he outperformed the Republican party in general and specifically a lot of the GOP senate candidates in key swing states?

The problem is the GOP have been wimps in general in the recent past and present in defending our basic ideology and the ridiculous claims of sexism and racism.

The solution is to hit back aggressively at every chance against these ridiculous characterizations and at the same time promote our platform in a way that emphasizes FREEDOM repeatedly. That's what being a conservative is all about and we just suck at confidently marketing it. The majority of people actually agree with us on major issues when it's presented in that fashion.

Has anyone even asked people who and why they voted for. The obvious white democrats at my workplace were pretty much in line with the "Romney the rich guy" class warfare crap. "Protecting the rich people from higher taxes". And these are people that are employed.

The little people want the rich to pay more taxes, simple as that. Mitt should have offered a token tax increase- let congress bottle it up in congress later- and at least win the WH -by taking away the commies argument.

Thats the most popular reason for voter turn off with Mitt I have heard. And nothing about Mormons or contracetpion.

Would love to, but he's done a lot for NJ, and the idea of going back to having the state run by the NJEA is even less apealing than voting for Christe.

Chris Christie became a pawn in the Chicago Way.

No wonder we lost..we have dumbasses like the guy above who faults Romney for not winning California, Massachusetts and Michigan. Haha give me a F'ing break. BTW he didn't have 3 million less voters than McCain, the final numbers won't be in for atleast a week or two. He'll end up close to the same as McCain.

We lost because the GOP brand has a serious problem with people under the age of 30 and we haven't done shit to aggressively change their minds by explaining our actual positions and tearing down the left's bullshit positions.

Oh and just running a Hispanic guy isn't going to do shit for us. Ted Cruz just easily won his Senate seat in TX, but he lost the Hispanic vote in many counties to some white guy...Pandering isn't a winning position for us. Actively going on offense and ruthlessly winning the war of ideas in the public square is how you get people to wake up. People of any race or age are attracted to a party that confidently expresses why they're solutions are immensely better, exudes confidence and doesn't take ridiculous shit from the other side.

Staten Island is the whitest boro in New York City. For whatever that’s worth.

New Orleans got a lot more coverage than similarly ravaged communities like Biloxi during Katrina. For whatever that’s worth.

I live in a suburb of New Orleans that was mostly spared

The scene in Biloxi/Gulfport/Pass Christian of the devastation caused by a catagory 5 storm surge (29 ft) was much more intense that the flooding of New Orleans. I saw homes with the third floor blown out from the surge.

New Orleans was mostly caused by governments inadequate levees and politicians kickbacks to never build them properly

Nobody knows about the Mississippi Gulf Coast even though Bush had groups down there pronto

There is an area in the outer part of New Orleans East - all vietnamese, totally flooded

Ray Nagan - Mr Chocolate City clueless NO Mayor wanted to create a new dump next to them for the half million destroyed refrigerators and piles of debris. thankfully concerned citizens were outraged, mostly by the articles in the Gambit Weekly and they put a stop to it.

The vietnamese were the first people back up and running and built everything without asking for a handout from the government. Self sufficientcy at its best.

you only heard about the inner city victims and Bush's slow response. Well he had two democrats Mayor Nagan and Governor Blanco who told him they had it under control.

Nagan is currently under investigation for some of his criminal activities during the recovery

nothing reported on victims that helped themselves

statin island will be just like Tennessee with the floods (too red to care), LA/MS/AL with the oil spill (but show up in less effected FLA).

No need to go there, it doesn't change my vote tally

Astonerii voted for the turd.
I was right. Romney could not win.
He had EVERY SINGLE ADVANTAGE any Republican could have dreamed of for winning according to people like you.
He was moderate (read progressive) so acceptable to independents.
He was well financed, thus able to get his message out to the people.
He was such a nice dude, so people would admire him.
He was well organized and very disciplined, so ran a flawless campaign.
He had the best political advisers money could buy, so he could tailor his message perfectly.
I dunno what all else this perfect storm politician brought with him.

What I do know is that his progressive past apparently left the conservative white, Asian and Hispanic vote home. Seems your coalition of moderates just cannot win an election.
