We just went through a 90 minute power outage. I don't know what happened to cause it. When I called with my cell phone, the power company just said there was a power outage "up north."

A little bit ominous given the discussion here since I was reading this thread when the power dropped out. A harbinger of things to come. But I fear they'll last a lot longer than 90 minutes.

It's gonna get damn cold...

No Keystone, no fracking, no coal, no oil, no nuclear, no hydroelectric.

That's The One's "All Of The Above" energy plan in a nutshell.

Only Holy Wind and Holy Sun will be allowed, anywhere, ever.

Here's a good take on that;

Among the world's physicists there was a feeling that usable atomic energy was perhaps the acme of all the practical gifts their profession could give to man. To have a part in making this gift a reality had been a hidden hope in many hearts. In this hope there had been no thought of atomic explosions except as one of the hazards to be avoided. We had been told that the earth's supplies of petroleum could not last for many decades, and that the supplies of coal were diminishing. Where then would men find the source of power for an industry that over the centuries would demand an ever-increasing supply? Could it be from the sun or the wind? These were too fickle in most parts of the world. If only we could tap the energy of the atomic nucleus!

- Dr. Arthur Holly Compton, Atomic Quest, Oxford Univ. press, 1956, p.12.

Dr. Compton was speaking of the situation in advanced physics circles in 1939.

The physicists had already "crunched the numbers", and knew that no matter how many illustrated articles were run in Everyday Science & Mechanics, wind and solar power were both non-starters. And they, too, were being told the "peak oil" story- it's a lot older than its present advocates want to admit. Add in the tales of coal exhaustion being imminent (before World War Two!), and if atomic energy could be released, it would solve most of the problems.

They never dreamed that the "concerned friends of the earth" would smash it as thoroughly as they have, with scare tactics, propaganda ploys, and political maneuvers that would make Huey Long proud.

With The One in charge for another four years, the deep-ecos are sure to get just about everything they want. And they'll get things they don't want, too. Like rolling blackouts and being unable to use their IPads or recharge their Chevy Volts. Not to mention freezing their arses off in those hard winters they claim are a thing of the past. (It was 28 here this AM, and we've been having temps in that range overnight since early October- far earlier than normal.)

I hope they like it. Because the rest of us, especially here in the MidWest, will have to suffer right along with the stupid bastards.

Oh, who am I kidding. They'll all just jet off to Cancun' for another Global Warming Conference.

I hope they get ten feet of snow when Al Gore shows up.

I'm in CA. And I voted against 30, because I'm a racist.

I actually think California might be a great place to start. There are better examples of the state's failures here. There are more open-minded libertarian types here, per capita. The Hispanics here more or less have a direct experience with government that's even worse than America. And you still get a sense that Californians can appreciate some rugged individualism. Breitbart lived here!

I know it seems counter-intuitive, but like Rush said this morning, liberalism CANNOT withstand intellectual scrutiny.

The left has won because of the youth vote, who are fresh out of indoctrination camp. It's a long slog but that's the level that we have to get down to. And, fortunately for us, the left's unhinged true-to-form MO will be to advance every liberal policy they have. Won't be long now before they're rolling out the food police, the health police, the religion police...it's all coming.

And they're all great examples of "the man", the out-of-touch ruling class that picks the winners and losers. It's hard to be for the little guy when you're the one with the billy club. The left must, I think by definition, embrace a hypocritical fascism that will inevitably be seen as an authority that has no legitimacy. And we must be there with megaphones to point it out, to sing about it, to fight against it as the little guys.

I don't know. I'm just trying to find the victory in defeat.

But we do have to do that. You have no idea how scared liberals are of conservatives. That's why women voted against Romney--those two senators talking about abortion just reaffirmed what they thought.

Liberals took over the culture and made everybody comfortable with Marxism. Now we have to do the reverse.

What fridge? What little electricity you’ll be able to afford after electricity rates “necessarily skyrocket” will go to your government-issued TV so you can be told what to do next.

I'm so sad and angry today that I just put my earbuds in so I wouldn't have to hear the gloating of my predominantly liberal coworkers. Market is down 316 points today, company stock down $2, and people have the nerve to say this man knows the economy and is good for business???!!!!
This morning I had to explain to my family in Italy why half of our contry is depressed. For some reason they all think we love this guy.

I'm feeling pretty hateful too. I just picked up my kids from the school, which is the only employer I know of in my small town that doesn't have to comply with the Obamacare BS. I'm sure their benefits are better than most (NY State would do no less by their lazy, incompetent, failing, teachers) and they are over paid for their part time jobs. Frankly, if I had to talk to one of them I would punch them in the mouth. These union people better watch out if more people lose jobs while they live high off the blood of their neighbors.
