How we’re going to blog the election tonight; Update: Live coverage begins!

posted at 4:21 pm on November 6, 2012 by Allahpundit

There’s only so much order you can impose on the chaos created by a magnitude 10.0 newsquake but between the four of us we’re going to try. Here’s a quick and dirty guide to our plan so that you know what to expect tonight. The easiest way to do this, we think, is to split up the labor according to poll closing times for key battleground states across the U.S. The breakdown:

7 p.m. ET to 8 p.m.: Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina
8 p.m. ET to 9 p.m.: Florida, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire
9 p.m. ET to 10 p.m.: Wisconsin, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota
10 p.m. ET to 11 p.m.: Iowa, Nevada

We’ll have four separate threads, one for each of these groups, on the front page. I’ll take the 7 p.m. group, Erika will cover the 8 p.m. crowd, MKH will handle the 9 p.m. slot, and Ed will join in at 10 p.m. Each of us will be updating our respective threads on those states throughout the night. Any other commentary we have about the election generally or about a state we’re not assigned to cover will be posted in the Greenroom, so it’ll be worth it to open up the master page in a separate tab and check in periodically. Should be lots of material in there. On top of all that, Ed will be co-hosting the Hugh Hewitt show tonight beginning at 6 p.m. ET; you can watch it here beginning at 6pm Eastern.

Prepare for a clusterfark, in other words, but hopefully a happy one. (One way to prepare: Make sure you know the basics of the electoral math.) To tide you over until showtime, here’s a rewarding Onion bit about the stupid predictability and predictable stupidity of social media today. (How bad is it out there? Dude.) It’s funny but profane, so please observe your official content warning.

Update (Ed): We’ve already begun our coverage on the Hugh Hewitt Show — so be sure to watch us live!

Virginia’s looking a bit shaky. Seems that turnout’s higher than we’d like in the cities.

KingGold on November 6, 2012 at 5:23 PM

Ace said that the Obama team is the one that is pushing the Virginia is shaky for Mitt meme because GOP sources are saying that CO, WI, IA, and NH are looking good for Mitt and if Mitt wins FL, NC, and VA, as well as the other states mentioned earlier, then Mitt has already won.

Axe on November 6, 2012 at 5:43 PM

I don’t even know if this means anything – I live in Illinois
so very little seems to mean anything if you know what I mean!

Anyways, in 2008 there were so many blacks in line to vote in
my community – western suburb of Chicago.

When I voted today there were none.

The guy at Hillbuzz.com stated previously that behind the scenes
blacks are angry at Obama because 1) he hasn’t done anything
for them and 2) Obama’s stance on gay marriage which is contrary
to what blacks that are baptist believe. The quasi underground
leaders in Chicago told Kevin that they were not going to vote
for Romney, however, would just stay home.

It looks bad for the black turnout in my community from what I
witnessed.

Did anyone else notice this? BTW, many of the photos on the news
indicate massive black voter turnout.

I had butterflies driving to the polling place at lunch today. I thought 2004 was a nailbiter; this is much worse. About 10 people waiting in line for the electronic ballot – I prefer paper so I didn’t have to wait at all.

A friend at work, age 26 (to whom I’ve been slipping conservative messages) wasn’t even sure if she was going to vote. “I haven’t even been paying attention to the issues,” she told me (she’s been really knocked for a loop with Lyme disease). “You’re the only person I know who is into politics.”

I told her to trust me and vote Republican across the board. “Honey, if you don’t vote and Obama wins, you’ll rue the day before you’re much older. We need to protect the greatest health care system in the world, the one that’s treating you now for these seizures.” We’re in Northern VA.

I also told her that I wouldn’t mention this again, nor ask her if or how she voted. She’s a sweet girl and I just hope she obeys me in this one thing.

People, these are the same rouges that have O up 4 in a Dem +11 sample. OF COURSE the “exit” poles show O leading in OH, etc. It’s the liar’s plan (rule #1): lie, steal, cheat, and when all else fails, double down on rule #1, rinse, repeat.
