How we’re going to blog the election tonight; Update: Live coverage begins!

posted at 4:21 pm on November 6, 2012 by Allahpundit

There’s only so much order you can impose on the chaos created by a magnitude 10.0 newsquake but between the four of us we’re going to try. Here’s a quick and dirty guide to our plan so that you know what to expect tonight. The easiest way to do this, we think, is to split up the labor according to poll closing times for key battleground states across the U.S. The breakdown:

7 p.m. ET to 8 p.m.: Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina
8 p.m. ET to 9 p.m.: Florida, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire
9 p.m. ET to 10 p.m.: Wisconsin, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota
10 p.m. ET to 11 p.m.: Iowa, Nevada

We’ll have four separate threads, one for each of these groups, on the front page. I’ll take the 7 p.m. group, Erika will cover the 8 p.m. crowd, MKH will handle the 9 p.m. slot, and Ed will join in at 10 p.m. Each of us will be updating our respective threads on those states throughout the night. Any other commentary we have about the election generally or about a state we’re not assigned to cover will be posted in the Greenroom, so it’ll be worth it to open up the master page in a separate tab and check in periodically. Should be lots of material in there. On top of all that, Ed will be co-hosting the Hugh Hewitt show tonight beginning at 6 p.m. ET; you can watch it here beginning at 6pm Eastern.

Prepare for a clusterfark, in other words, but hopefully a happy one. (One way to prepare: Make sure you know the basics of the electoral math.) To tide you over until showtime, here’s a rewarding Onion bit about the stupid predictability and predictable stupidity of social media today. (How bad is it out there? Dude.) It’s funny but profane, so please observe your official content warning.

Update (Ed): We’ve already begun our coverage on the Hugh Hewitt Show — so be sure to watch us live!

On the other hand, could it be that Team Obama’s checks have bounced to the trollage. I do hear that they’re in deep debt.

MJBrutus on November 6, 2012 at 4:40 PM

I hope you’re right. I’m banking on Wisconsin Republicans as the Midwestern surprise tonight, but Pennsylvania would make it an early night. It’s just the GOP has been fooled into going there so many times… I think we’ll make it close in PA, maybe 52-48, but we’ll know soon. But given all that has happened with Walker’s recall, the judge recalls, the state legislature, etc. over the last four years, it only seems appropriate that Wisconsin Republicans deliver the knockout blow to O.

Good evening from Italy, fellow HotAir readers.

I’ve been here at HotAir since Day 1 and am looking forward to the biggest night in HotAir’s history (previously held by the 2010 midterms, with the defeat of Bush’s Shamnesty in second place). Things sucked in 2008, but I’m pretty optimistic about HumpBot busting through the wall like Kool-Aid Man this time.

I have a decent stock of German beer standing by (in honor of the 96% of Germans who are Obama supporters or something), but I’ll have to take it easy and hope for good news early before work beckons.

Go R/R and GOP House/Senate candidates, and especially Scott Brown in MA, Michael Baumgartner in WA (who is almost certainly going to lose to Harry Reid stooge Cantwell, but I’m hoping for a good showing), George Allen in VA (annoy the Post – vote Allen!), Chris Perkins vs. the loathsome Gerry Connolly in VA-11, and of course Rob McKenna for WA governor vs. evil Boglodite used car salesman Jay Inslee.

Los Angeles County voter turnout today is only 32% versus 43% in 2008. Yes, California is not even close to being a swing state but I think it says a hell of a lot about lib/Dem voter enthusiasm. It’s down and it’s down hard.

I pray in the car! In between tasks! Waiting in line @ Target etc! I hope like a persistent child, our Lord gives us what we want just to make us shut up!!! Lol!!!

Nerves are shot. Having an adult beverage to take the edge off. Polling place here in MA was very busy around 11 am. Held signs for Scottie B for a couple of hours. Lots of thumbs up! Cast my second vote for Mitt today – yep, voted for him back in ’94 when he ran against Ted K.

Lawyers everywhere rub their hands in glee. Long night, friend. I don’t expect Barry to be 1/1000th as graceful as Kerry in 04.
