Hot Air Survey: Your Election Predictions Results

posted at 9:29 pm on November 5, 2012 by Patrick Ishmael

Over 7000 votes later, who do Hot Air readers think will win the Presidency in 2012? Drum roll please…

Okay, so that wasn’t so surprising. But I found this reader-chosen hierarchy of likely Romney states a little surprising:

Florida leads with 99%; Oregon rounds things out at 8%. For those wondering, the percentage for Pennsylvania, an (accidental) late addition, is calculated against the number of voters (thousands) who had it available as an option.

When will this thing be called? Hot Air readers seem to think that we may be in for a late night…

Will the GOP have a majority in the Senate? Readers were torn.

But readers weren’t torn in thinking that the GOP will gain seats in the House.

And the rest:

Thanks to everyone who participated! Questions? You can reach me on Twitter at @theish.

portlandon on November 5, 2012 at 9:41 PM

I wonder how many of the 6740 morons will come post on here claiming they knew all along what a mistake nominating Flopney was, if/when he loses. My guess is about ~99%.

I base that estimate on the behavior of those same morons in 2008. They all insisted that Mccain would pull it out at the last minute (“because Palin, durrrr!”), and now, there isn’t a single proud Mccain voter to be seen here or anywhere. Now EVERYBODY claims they knew nominating that old clown was a mistake. Of course, if someone had come here on November 3, 2008 and suggested it, all those useful idiot crowd following tools would have whined and accused said someone of trolling.

I have a modest proposal concerning that.

If Romney should win the EC tomorrow – no matter what margin he wins by – every subsequent reference to Nate Silver, should you refer to him at all, must be prefaced by “the discredited.”

For example: “I can’t believe that Democrats staked all their 2012 hopes on the discredited Nate Silver.”

Raquel Pinkbullet on November 5, 2012 at 9:41 PM

I don’t blame you for your skepticism. The turnout models though dictate the results I posted. Obama has lost a lot of enthusiasm. My methodology was to take Rasmussen’s party affiliation tracker numbers and apply them to national polls. After readjusting national polls I apply my new average to state polling. The state percentages I give above add up to a 53, 45 Romney victory both in the aggregate of state polling, and in the readjusted national polls.

Rasmussen party affiliation tracker. Please compare 2012 to 2008 and tell me I don’t have at least some sound reasoning for my predictions.

Did you know it or did you cheat?

That is still one of my favorite lines, sometimes I’ll throw it out at the wife when she asks an innocent “what now” type of question.

Bishop on November 5, 2012 at 9:48 PM

I’m more pessimistic than most. I want terribly for Romney to win, and there’s definitely a load of evidence that he will….and yet conventional wisdom says he won’t. And for all of the bad things we have to say about conventional wisdom, it is usually right, and the people challenging it are usually wrong.

I’m feeling snakebit about this election. Barack Obama is a political Houdini. Every time we’ve thought we were about to land a devastating blow on him, he slipped out of it. Actually, no, implying that he has something to do with his escapes is giving him way too much credit. Every time we had him in a corner, some external event would pop up and align the stars for him.

McCain was beating him until the economy collapsed and he was able to spin a national tragedy into political gold. The Supreme Court was poised to completely strike down ObamaCare, his crowning achievement, until Bush appointee John Roberts inexplicably switches sides. Never mind that ObamaCare doesn’t even exist without the political treachery of Arlen Specter, the desecration of the democratic process in Minnesota etc. When Mitt Romney was poised to use the Republican National Convention to introduce himself to the American people, a minor hurricane hit the gulf coast. The media happily spent the entire convention referring back to the mismanagement after Hurricane Katrina, effectively distracting from Romney’s argument. Finally, in the last week, Romney was cleaning Obama’s clock with independents, when another hurricane hits the northeast, giving the media a chance to take the focus off the campaign, where Romney was winning, to the storm, allowing Obama to act presidential and use a Republican governor as a prop to portray himself in an utterly false bipartisan light.

I still have hope. Rasmussen’s affiliation model suggests the electorate will be R+6 and Gallup predicts R+1. If either is right, Obama is toast (spectacularly toast if Rasmussen is right). And yet, I’m going to remain apprehensive down to the very end. I just have this odd feeling that I’m going to be feeling very bad tomorrow night.
