Cutter: Remain calm, and don’t let tomorrow’s early tallies get you down

posted at 8:08 pm on November 5, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

For such an ostensibly confident, feelin’-good campaign, they certainly seem to be taking an awful lot of messaging precautions. In a conference call this afternoon, the Obama campaign offered some advice to supporters, lest tomorrow’s news cycle start bringing in evidence that things are going Mitt Romney’s way, via Politicker:

“My warning, we need to stay calm for much of the day,” Stephanie Cutter, Mr. Obama’s deputy campaign manager, said, touting thousands of early ballots already submitted by voters. “We’ve already banked a pretty big portion of our vote.” …

“Keep calm and tweet on,” Ms. Cutter said. “So, no matter what you hear tomorrow about turnout in Republican counties or exit polls, particularly early in the day, please remember and remind your readers that, because of early votes, we’re where we need to be to win….I don’t think there’s going to be official exits until the end of the day, but if things leak out that aren’t validated or weighted, please stay calm.”

No, it simply wouldn’t do for any potential late-in-the-day Democratic voters to be dissuaded from getting to their polling stations by poor news or spreading pessimism, would it? Cutter reminds supporters that President Obama has logged enough early votes to counterbalance any such news, but, as Mary Katharine wondered earlier… have they really? Their early voting totals across-the-board don’t seem to be anywhere near the levels they reached in 2008, and a lot of these polls’ samples are relying on similarly heady levels of enthusiastic Democratic turnout — not to mention, the Republican ground game isn’t nearly as wanting as it was in 2008. If the Obama campaign really feels so secure that that is what’s going to happen, that doesn’t quite explain away the “Please stay calm” memo, does it?

Anyhow, wouldn’t want to leave you for the evening with a bitter taste in your mouth, so here’s a bit of a palate-cleansing last-minute word on real “confidence” from Mitt himself. It’s do or die tomorrow, friends:

There were little flyers placed on all the cars in my neighborhood this morning. They were obviously meant for Hispanics. They said something like “with Obama we win, vote Democrat” in English and Spanish, and were made by some Hispanic organization.

I live in Queens in New York City in a neighborhood that used to be pretty much all White Catholic, and is now a mix of White Catholic, some Orthodox Jews bleeding over from a bordering neighborhood, a good deal of Hispanics, and West Indians who dominate another bordering neighborhood.

Why on earth would Obama feel the need to get out the Hispanic vote in Deep Blue New York City? I certainly don’t remember seeing anything like these flyers in ’08.

Exit polls are usually more Democrat than actual vote totals. Anyone remember the one that showed Gore winning Florida by 6%, or those (published by Drudge on Election Day) that showed President Kerry in 2004?

What we need to fear most are the huge batches of votes from Democrat bastions such as Cleveland, Philly, or Detroit that aren’t counted until many hours after the polls close, that can erase a six-digit lead in a few minutes. Especially if they were all marked by one corrupt wise guy with boxes of ballots hidden in his trunk…

Does anyone here but me think that the election will be decided not by the voters but by the side with the best voter fraud apparatus?

I expect Romeny to win the exit polls. But the Dems will employ voter intimidation, bussed-in non-English-speaking illiterate voters cued how to vote by Democrat campaign workers, miscounted votes, erasable voting machine programmes that register leads for Obama along with other computer “malfunctions”, unattended voting booths, complaints of Republican polling staff being ignored by polling officials and boxes of ballots being brought into key polling places from the trunks of cars idling in the parking lots.

And then the so-called close pre-election polls show such an artificially tight race that any Obama wins will be appear realistic. And the judges will decide according to their preferences, abetted by newly found late results.

It’ll be a repeat of Al Franken’s protracted victory court-decision in Minnesota (which was a small-time test run for this race).

Toooooooooooooooooo Late!!

From the 2010 Victory!

Obama’s left-of-center coalition, which got young people and intellectuals involved and which appealed to a majority of women, blacks and Latinos, has evaporated into nothing.”

From Der Spiegel,

Me thinks the Tea Party might be cook’n Hopey’s goose,
this analysist sounds good to me!!
———————————–
The center-left Süddeutsche Zeitung writes:

“The success of the Tea Party candidate Christine O’Donnell does not bode well for the Republicans, nor for the Democrats (even if they see it differently at the moment), nor for the whole American political machine.”

“Obama has underestimated the frustration in the country and the power of the Tea Party movement, which gives the prevailing disillusionment a platform and a voice. It is by far the most vibrant political force in America. Obama’s left-of-center coalition, which got young people and intellectuals involved and which appealed to a majority of women, blacks and Latinos, has evaporated into nothing.”

“The new right, though, is on the rise. It sets the agenda. America is facing a shift to the right. The Republicans have already marched in this direction of their own accord, regardless how many Tea Party reactionaries get a seat and a voice in Congress in November. The Democrats and the president have been put totally on the defensive. From now on they will only be able to react, rather than act.”

I’m deeply gratified that we are electing Mitt Romney for the presidency based solely upon his resume.

His proven skills as an executive, and his proven skills governing, have been our main consideration and we have not built a cult of personality around him, declaring him to be ‘The One’ or ‘The Messiah’.

He will be a president, not a cult figure. His concern while in office will be the welfare of this nation, not his ‘legacy’ and his place in the history books.

Boycott + trolls = Trollcott. In the vernacular “Don’t feed the trolls.”

Good thing Justice Roberts owes us one.

heh, heh, heh, heh, heh

I live at GMT +10, so I get tomorrow’s paper today. Tomorrow’s headline reads:

Roberts Says Not Court’s Role to Mediate Democratically Decided Elections

I’m going to be doing this tomorrow:

DEMOCRATS…COME OUT TO PLAYY!!

She is hot in a…

Hmmm even the mildest words get me stuck in moderation.

What I really want to write would get me banned.

But, she is hot, in that way.

cozmo on November 5, 2012 at 9:25 PM

I apparently missed it. What is “TROLLCOTT?

h a p f a t on November 5, 2012 at 9:06 PM

…started out…to just ignore one particular troll who had taken over too many threads day after day after day. Everybody here expanded it. (I think they still need some red meat here to beat on though)…I think it is a good way to rid this place of the obnoxious ones, when the management won’t. There’s times when THAT has to be done…like a Dr Tesla…or like the poll troll…when the poster’s have countered them eleven hundred thousand times in different ways… and all they want to to is disrupt this site…

KOOLAID2 on November 5, 2012 at 9:25 PM

Yeah, wtf is a trollcott?
I need to harvest some organs tomorrow night?!?

HornetSting on November 5, 2012 at 9:08 PM

Short for Troll(boy)cott.

No answers; they get frustrated, and leave the thread to serious posts.

And, how are you, Ms. Sting?

massrighty on November 5, 2012 at 9:11 PM

Massrighty, I am doing okay. And, you?
Now, you guys take away my source of fun….toying with trolls. They will be particularly vulnerable with their messiah losing in a landslide. Easy pickings!

HornetSting on November 5, 2012 at 9:26 PM

No postings? All must be watching Coulter.

Stephanie Cutter
@stefcutter

Deputy Campaign Manager for Obama 2012, Red Sox, Neil Diamond and Bruce Springsteen fan, and proud Kennedy alum.

My condolences to Neil Diamond. He deserves better than that indignity.

HornetSting on November 5, 2012 at 9:26 PM

Sweating the Scott Brown vote; and, we have a downticket race to replace a corrupt (D) with a hard-working (R) (Richard Tisei.)
So, I’m watching way too intently, but otherwise we’re all well…

As to the trolls, we just needed to bench them for a couple of days. Their tears will still be delicious tomorrow, and for many days after!

Why is Cutter quoting Custer?

No, Holder’s a skank (Jesse’s girl) but Cutter’s actually quite attractive, until she speaks. I couldn’t drink Holder pretty nor drink Cutter smart, but if I had to make a drunk hit, it would definitely be Cutter. ;-)

TXUS on November 5, 2012 at 9:37 PM

I was just watching Kirsten Powers on Fox. Many of the Dems that are supposedly in the know really believe that they have the electoral advantage that we’ve been seeing in a lot of the public polling. They really believe it. I think that tomorrow is going to be a real eye opener for them… or us…

ghostwriter on November 5, 2012 at 8:40 PM

In fact I saw an earlier post here saying that Joe Trippe said today that if the “Obama campaign Model” for predicting the elections is right then Obama wins… The Obama model assumes a democrat turnout similar to 2008 and a Republican turnout similar to 2008… That is utterly delusional but these people believe their own lies as long as these lies make them feel good… Those are the Obama campaign internal polls that these democrats in the knows are seeing and they are based on 2008 model turnout same as the junk public polls… Yes, you may think that they may try to be more honest in their internal polls but no… They really want the good news no matter what it takes to get it even if it is totally against the real world…

The stout-hearted Manly Rash promised ~in these same comments back in 2008~ that if McCain lost to Obama he would stop posting on Hot Air.

Time for someone to issue the same promise in this election, so I will uphold his stirring tradition.

I swear that if Romney does not win the election I , by the beard of the profit, will stop posting on Hot Air.

I am that confident of an Obama loss.

So Go Mitt!

Begone Barack!

And wish me luck, Manly!

profitsbeard on November 5, 2012 at 8:20 PM

Well intentioned, PB, but unnecessary. A promise that asinine can only be made by one man – ME. So here goes…

I, Manly Rash, being of questionably sound mind and judgment do hereby proclaim the following: That Mitt Romney will prevail over Barack Obama by a landslide margin of 300+ electoral votes and that the election will be decided before 10:00 PM Eastern Time.

I make this statement not prompted by some vague, pseudo-psychic instinct but by dint of all the evidence – both statistical and anecdotal – that has accumulated thus far.

I further promise that if Mitt Romney loses, I shall once more depart Hot Air for the desert.

So let it be written…so let it be done.

Ha, Tamara borders on Coyote Syndrome.

Two of my fav’s are Shanon Bream and Angela McGowen. Brains and beauty. They both send me into deep breathing.

Of course, there are many more with brains and beauty on Fox News and Fox Business. That’s why I watch so much. Fox gives you brains, and beauty too. Made for TV, not radio.

She’s right. The message is perfect for our side.

Remain calm.

Don’t believe a word the old media say.

Don’t mind the ‘exit polls’ or any other b/s.

Vote.

Can I flip the switch to send all these Democratic bitches to outer space after they lose tomorrow?

The Dem men are welcome to go too… We can have them packed and ready in, well, a New York minute?
