Obama EPA second term agenda revealed

posted at 6:01 pm on November 4, 2012 by Jazz Shaw

If you thought the War on Coal and various other job dampening EPA initiatives over the past few years were bad, apparently that was only a skirmish compared to what’s in store after this Tuesday. At the Examiner, Conn Carroll has the inside scoop on how Santa’s little elves at Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency have been very busy lately. But you might not care for the presents they have in mind for us all.

President Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency has devoted an unprecedented number of bureaucrats to finalizing new anti-coal regulations that are set to be released at the end of November, according to a source inside the EPA.

More than 50 EPA staff are now crashing to finish greenhouse gas emission standards that would essentially ban all construction of new coal-fired power plants. Never before have so many EPA resources been devoted to a single regulation. The independent and non-partisan Manhattan Institute estimates that the EPA’s greenhouse gas coal regulation will cost the U.S. economy $700 billion.

Carroll goes on to speculate that the mad dash is a result of panic at the agency over the possibility that Obama may lose the election. They would, in that case, have to rush out a bunch of regulations which, “would then be very hard for a President Romney to undo.”

I don’t tend to agree with that. It’s certainly possible that they could roll out some regulations in the next seven weeks, but shortly after President Romney is sworn in and put his own people in place at the agency, those could pretty well be swept aside at the stroke of a pen. (Or so I understand it, anyway.) I tend to think that this is preparation for a roll-out in the coming months in the event of an Obama second term, which is pretty much the analysis of Larry Bell at Forbes.

Titled “A Look Ahead to EPA Regulations for 2013: Numerous Obama EPA Rules Placed on Hold Until After the Election Spell Doom For Jobs and Economic Growth”, it lists and describes new rules concocted over the past year ranging from additional restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions, tougher water guidelines and tightening of the ozone standard. Taken together, they will further drive up pump prices, impose construction bans on local communities, and cripple oil, natural gas and coal production.

As the Washington Post notes, the report puts a spotlight back on the Obama EPA which has earned a “reputation for Abuse”, serving as a stark reminder that “President Obama has presided over a green team administration that works every day to “crucify” oil and gas companies and make sure that “…if you want to build a coal plant you got a big problem.”

Coal miners and coal powered plants already have a big problem, as we have pointed out repeatedly. But it looks like those problems may grow by several orders of magnitude in the coming months if the current White House occupant remains in office. The President has already been seen to bristle at criticism from his own Left flank over how he hasn’t done enough for the environmentalists who can’t understand why the oil companies are still in business four years later. Unrestrained by the need to win another election – having a lot more “flexibility,” as you might hear from Vladimir – these folks can really run amok.

If that’s what America chooses on Tuesday, then that’s what they’ll get. Higher gas, heating and energy prices, less jobs in an energy industry which can’t meet the demands place on them by the EPA, and everything that comes with it. But, as H.L. Mencken said, we all get the government we deserve.

I am enjoying seeing just how much Romney is eager to complete his first day in office. The demands on him will be great — witness the above — but Mitt Romney appears to be eager to handle those problems. Obama’s leaving a great mess of icky garbage for President Romney to deal with but like a good guy that he is, Romney is declining to condemn O for that and plans to focus on repairing Obama’s crud.

Anything put in place by the executive branch can be removed by the executive branch, full stop. Most of Obama’s overreach can simply be reversed, with or without new personnel (though I pray that Romney cleans house on the pack of corrupt apparatchiks Obama put in place).

I keep harping on this, but:

There is a war on franc sand in SE MN, NE IA and SW WI. The environmentalist left is trying to stop mining of frac sand – by moratoriums, increased red tape at the local level etc.

If these folks win, fracking ends, because the sand needed for the process goes away or becomes too expensive to make it worth while.

If O wins, expect and EPA push on frac sand mining bans.

Red Wing & Winona MN, LaCrosse & Eau Claire WI and McGergor IA are ground zero in this fight.

El_Terrible on November 4, 2012 at 6:45 PM

I look at it from a different angle.

Unemployment peaked at around 10% and his policies after kicking in were able to bring it down below 8%.

Plus i believe the chances of us getting to full employment in the next 4 years are very high regardless of who gets elected. Obama should get credit for that.

Romney’s insistence of creating another partisan fight over Obamacare is also a turn off. We all know he wont get anywhere with it.

loveofcountry on November 4, 2012 at 6:33 PM

Unemployment dropped because many gave up looking for work. The actual rate is probably closer to 12%. But you already knew that. So, you want to give Barky credit for something that hasn’t happened? Like maybe a Peace Prize? Yeah.

Troll question of the day:

Carter recession: peaked at 10.1% unemployment, 14% inflation, prime interest rate at 21%. Misery index off the charts. WAY worse at it’s depth than any recession since the Great Depression, including this one. Reagan took 3 quarters to get us out of it and launch the greatest expansion of peacetime prosperity in the nation’s history.

“Bush” recession: Unemployment peaked at about 9%, 5% inflation, prime interest rate 1%. Misery index negligible. Not a very deep recession, and certainly not nearly as bad as what Reagan inherited. Obama has had 14 quarters and has only made it worse. There is no rational reason why we are still in it, and no reason why the economy should not be booming at this point except for the anti-growth policies that Obama has foisted upon us.

WHY IS THAT? AND WHY DO YOU WANT AMERICA TO KEEP SPITTING INTO THE WIND? WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICA? WHY DO YOU WANT US TO BE POOR? WHY DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO BE ON FOODSTAMPS AND OTHER GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE? WHY DO YOU HATE POOR BLACK PEOPLE AND WANT TO KEEP THEM IN POVERTY? WHAT THE F@CK IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?

He is a pragmatic and effective problem solver. That is why his appeal is so broad and it is why he will win by a huge margin on Tuesday.

I agree that mitt is a very pragmatic non ideologue candidate and this is helping him! and its nice to see his tack to the center being rewarded and all the primary purists are now silenced.
however, WTF were we doing during the primary? if Romney had not pandered and lied we would have santorum or newt as candidate and instead of a 1-2% defeat we would have a 10% defeat.

Hate to tell you this but the chances the economy will create at least 12M jobs in the next 4 years are very high regardless of who gets elected.
That is why i am voting for Obama because i feel he deserves the credit for that. Why have him do all the work to have someone else reap the rewards?

loveofcountry on November 4, 2012 at 6:14 PM

Yep, all those jobs adding fries to your order, or manning the government-built electric car recharging stations (already being built up and down Interstate 5 in Oregon) or just provding a nice warm fat azz to fill all the new chairs at the various government agencies under development, are just the kind of “rewards” this nation will deserve.

Heck, if Obama gets re-elected I am going to start up a business franchising outlets across this nation, staffed with folks well-versed in helping others fill out their government aid forms! Heaven knows there is sure to be be massive increase in the number of people who will qualify for government aid under another Obama administration and not more than 1 in 100 of them will be smart enough to figure out how to fill out the forms.

Who wants to buy my first franchises with exclusive territories in New York, Chicago and, probably the most valuable, in Detroit?

Oh, and I’m saving the absolute best opportunities for my closest friends – running local franchises set up to help anyone making more than $250,000 a year, move out of this country before the government squeezes the last penny out of your vile, evil, greedy, 1%’er, profit-sucking hands.

Mitt’s looking really tired. God, please put your Blessing on him and all of us that want to get back to a country that is first and foremost, dedicated to You and Your Will and not our own….in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Mitt opens his PA speech by expressing concern about the victims of Sandy and also providing a nice, warm congratulations to Chris Christie for his work there. Mitt’s not about revenge, that’s for the other guy.

He’s a genuinely good person, and it shows. More than anything, that’s what demolished the caricature the Obama campaign spent hundreds of millions of dollars constructing last summer.

Kinda OT: My personal feelings:
God always puts us where we need to be. I wasn’t a big Romney fan….I wanted “more”….I guess God said…well, this is MY choice. And remember, I AM! (in control, have the best planned for you, will always be there for you, want nothing but the best for you, etc.) Amen… :)
