Obama EPA second term agenda revealed

posted at 6:01 pm on November 4, 2012 by Jazz Shaw

If you thought the War on Coal and various other job dampening EPA initiatives over the past few years were bad, apparently that was only a skirmish compared to what’s in store after this Tuesday. At the Examiner, Conn Carroll has the inside scoop on how Santa’s little elves at Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency have been very busy lately. But you might not care for the presents they have in mind for us all.

President Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency has devoted an unprecedented number of bureaucrats to finalizing new anti-coal regulations that are set to be released at the end of November, according to a source inside the EPA.

More than 50 EPA staff are now crashing to finish greenhouse gas emission standards that would essentially ban all construction of new coal-fired power plants. Never before have so many EPA resources been devoted to a single regulation. The independent and non-partisan Manhattan Institute estimates that the EPA’s greenhouse gas coal regulation will cost the U.S. economy $700 billion.

Carroll goes on to speculate that the mad dash is a result of panic at the agency over the possibility that Obama may lose the election. They would, in that case, have to rush out a bunch of regulations which, “would then be very hard for a President Romney to undo.”

I don’t tend to agree with that. It’s certainly possible that they could roll out some regulations in the next seven weeks, but shortly after President Romney is sworn in and put his own people in place at the agency, those could pretty well be swept aside at the stroke of a pen. (Or so I understand it, anyway.) I tend to think that this is preparation for a roll-out in the coming months in the event of an Obama second term, which is pretty much the analysis of Larry Bell at Forbes.

Titled “A Look Ahead to EPA Regulations for 2013: Numerous Obama EPA Rules Placed on Hold Until After the Election Spell Doom For Jobs and Economic Growth”, it lists and describes new rules concocted over the past year ranging from additional restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions, tougher water guidelines and tightening of the ozone standard. Taken together, they will further drive up pump prices, impose construction bans on local communities, and cripple oil, natural gas and coal production.

As the Washington Post notes, the report puts a spotlight back on the Obama EPA which has earned a “reputation for Abuse”, serving as a stark reminder that “President Obama has presided over a green team administration that works every day to “crucify” oil and gas companies and make sure that “…if you want to build a coal plant you got a big problem.”

Coal miners and coal powered plants already have a big problem, as we have pointed out repeatedly. But it looks like those problems may grow by several orders of magnitude in the coming months if the current White House occupant remains in office. The President has already been seen to bristle at criticism from his own Left flank over how he hasn’t done enough for the environmentalists who can’t understand why the oil companies are still in business four years later. Unrestrained by the need to win another election – having a lot more “flexibility,” as you might hear from Vladimir – these folks can really run amok.

If that’s what America chooses on Tuesday, then that’s what they’ll get. Higher gas, heating and energy prices, less jobs in an energy industry which can’t meet the demands place on them by the EPA, and everything that comes with it. But, as H.L. Mencken said, we all get the government we deserve.

IF Obama wins and all of these EPA diktats are issued, then Red states need to defiantly reclaim their 10th Amendment powers and just say NO MORE, and then ignore the EPA. The EPA isn’t constitutional so ignore them and then take them to court.

I really hope there is at least one GOP governor who cares about his citizens enough to protect them from an out of control federal government.

Anything that has been constructed can be deconstructed. Legislation/regulation can readily be deconstructed. As Mr. Shaw points out ‘…with the stroke of a pen’.

This is why if Obama decided to try and pass a raft of regulations and writes a number of EO’s during his lame duck session, we can endure it for as long as it takes to undo it and repair any residual damage it may have caused.

We’ve endure four years of Obama’s brand of administration. We can endure the final 2 1/2 months.

Very funny. Supporters who resort to insults 2 days before a big election usually do so because they know their side is going to lose.

Another take from Matthew Dowd on today’s This Week:

DOWD: …every time you feel a losing campaign, these three things happen. The first thing happens is, don’t believe — the public polls are wrong. That’s the first sign of a campaign that’s about to lose. The second thing, we’re going to change the nature of the electorate, and you’re not seeing it reflected in the polls. And the third thing is, the only poll that counts is Election Day. When you hear those things, you know you’re about to lose.

And that is fine by me. However you want to rationalize Obama’s failed presidency is fine by me. We know different.

Some thoughts on trolls:

1) The persistent provocateur variety, ex. gumby, insult and anger because it gratifies them. Responding to them directly only reinforces the sick behavior.

2) It is not necessary to ignore trolls completely, although there is much to be said for that approach. But remember that anger feeds the troll, because anger means you take its BS seriously. Mockery that reflects contempt or indifference but not anger or frustration, not so much.

3) In the event one of these sociopaths finds a way to monetize its illness, references that mangle its handle probably remove that incentive.

4) The problems trolls cause are largely avoided if no one engages. Just ignore the disgusting little cretins, if you can’t mock them with a smile. Banning isn’t necessary.

5) I suspect site management views the whole registered users/comments thing as a PITA whose overhead costs outweighs its benefits. I think they would dump the whole thing as quickly as they did the old Green Room contributors if they could figure out how to do it without major backlash. I think the Facebook deal was an effort to monetize the site, but it was also an experiment to test feasibility of going with Facebook comments, period.

In short, I ain’t feeling the love from above, and we had all better get a realistic view of where we stand. Better we deal with serial rectums in the comments ourselves.

I ♥ COAL!

I ♥ AMERICA!

I hate obama!

Pork-Chop on November 4, 2012 at 6:39 PM

That is why i am voting for Obama because i feel he deserves the credit for that. Why have him do all the work to have someone else reap the rewards? loveofcountry on November 4, 2012 at 6:14 PM

I’m sure that will be the Obooba meme going forward. It’ll work so long as no one brings up all the new policies Mitt enacts, and all the Obooba policies Mitt and the house and senate deep six, which result in large scale economic turnaround and growth, everyone will believe it. So keep chirpin’ li’l guy!

disease is the hysterics that push the gop so much to the right.

nathor on November 4, 2012 at 6:35 PM

Mitt Romney is anything but a right wing fringe candidate. In fact, that is why it took so long for the GOP to embrace his candidacy. Mitt is no hysteric and he is no ideologue. He is a pragmatic and effective problem solver. That is why his appeal is so broad and it is why he will win by a huge margin on Tuesday.

It’s nice to know that they will be gone next Wednesday.

VegasRick on November 4, 2012 at 6:30 PM

Oh no, they will be here picking on Rombo for not stopping drone attacks, failing to bring gas prices down to $1/gallon three days after taking office, and for every murder committed in Chicago.

Hi Jackie!

Wanted to tell you I saw what went down at the end of QOTD the other night. Those two aren’t trolls, but they are flaming rectums.
