It begins continues. Dirty tricks in Ohio.

If you can’t beat ‘em, NAB ‘EM!

Perrysburg police arrested four Toledo area men early Friday morning on charges of stealing Mitt Romney campaign signs in Wood and Lucas counties in Northwest Ohio.

The signs were found in a pickup truck owned by Sheet Metal Workers International, Union Local 33 in Parma, according to the police report.

Many of the signs — some measuring as large as 4 feet by 8 feet — were believed to have been put up by members of Northwest Ohio Conservative Coalition, said John McAvoy, the group’s president.

Stories of political signs going “missing” in the final days of an election are as old as the invention of yard signs. This one, of course, has the bonus goodness of having the signs show up in a truck operated by one of the labor unions, pretty much satisfying every stereotype we see in the news. During the 2010 campaign I asked one of the delivery guys who worked for the company making our yard signs if they typically saw a lot of big replacement orders in October. He told me that it was the rule rather than the exception, and quipped jokingly (I hope) that sign thieves probably accounted for a significant portion of their business before sales died off for the following four months.

But technology and the ubiquitous nature of cell phones are making more and more sign thieves think twice. (Or at least they should.) Here’s video shot by one guy last month who simply couldn’t figure out why his Mitt Romney yard signs kept disappearing. He found the answer.

One parting thought on this subject. I know criminals are generally expected to be dumb, but have none of them realized the self-defeating nature of these actions? Most campaigns expect that people picking up yard signs to display at their homes will kick in a contribution to help cover the costs. And angry, ripped off people are even more likely to donate just to get their point across. Every time you steal a yard sign, you’re probably just putting more money in the opponent’s campaign coffers, stupid.

We see a lot of it on the internet and very little of it on the news, most of it we see on the news is local. The fact that a union truck was used is the least likely part to be reported, 2nd least likely to be reported would be the candidate’s name if Republican. It would be the lead story if the candidate is a Democrat. Goes back to that yellow journalism you wrote about Jazz.

Democrats cheat. It’s just that simple. That’s why early voting and absentee voting are troubling; those are opportunities, particularly with the mail-in ballots for the Dems to have 50 people living in the same vacant lot sending in their Obama votes.

Here in Pima county, AZ, I’m sure many of you remember our beloved democrat Sheriff Dumbs**t, who, on the day of the Giffords shooting stood on the national stage and blamed the Tea Party, conservatives, and Sarah Palin for the shooting before even a single fact had come out. There is a concerted effort to send Sheriff Dumbs**t packing and replace him with a new sheriff. During the campaign, a small group had bought signs, “Dump Dupnik” and placed them all around town. About 1 week later, a group of Dumbs**t supporters put up their “Keep Dumbs**t” signs all around town. By funny coincidence, that same night all of the “Dump Dupnik signs went missing. Every.single.one.of.them. The exact same day the keep Dupnik signs went up. Isn’t that an amazing coincidence?

By the way, the “Keep Dumbs**t” signs violated election law, they had no information on them that told who paid for them or a phone number to find out. After a few weeks of arguing, the Dumbs**t campaign finally put stickers on the signs that provided the phone number.

In 2010, the Grijalva campaign had a pizza night for its supporters; to get in, you had to bring your absentee ballot with you.

Lord willing, Romney will win. A concerted effort to fully prosecute voter fraud and intimidation needs to be undertaken when he does so. The amount of cheating the democrats have participated in has turned elections and disenfranchises each and every one of us who play by the rules. If there are Republicans who have cheated, they also need to be prosecuted; but the evidence shows that this is at best a 1 in 10 or 1 in 100 occurrence relative to democrat cheating.

The very next day my side windows of my car broken out because of my Romney sticker (nothing was taken). There is a union headquarters and a union credit union in my neighborhood (teamsters). I now have cameras recording our driveway and picture window area (motion lighting also). The recording set-up was a lot cheaper then the cost of replacement, money well spent.

I was on alert for any voting machine issues when I voted yesterday in NC. Sure enough, my vote for Romney came up as Obama. I went back and corrected it and made sure the paper tape cancelled Obama and recorded Romney and it had.

How many people’s vote for Romney will be stolen by machines that need “re-calibration.” Interesting, the machines never turn Obama votes to Romney votes. All of these machines must be somehow miscalibrated only in the Democrats favor.

I remember back in the 70′s and 80′s when Look For The Union Label was the big rallying cry for America’s economic woes at a time when Japan was the biggest automobile, appliance, and home electronics manufacturer and exporter in the world — and China was fast becoming the premiere outsourcing destination for America’s factory manufacturing of mass produced cheap crap and [non-union made] electronics and clothing.

‘Consumed by the Spirit of America — Your Unions Work For You!’ — or some variation thereof if memory serves — was often the ending statement or text on the radio/TV.

TV commercials and Radio commercials galore touting ‘Buy American’ and the ‘Union Label’ which went hand-in-hand and was supposed to be a VIRTUE — a sign of American Exceptionalism, Quality in Content and Manufacturing, and putting Americans to work and keeping them working.

Now — in the 21st Century — ‘American Exceptionalism’ is tantamount to a term of profanity and something to be loathed by this current POTUS and his administration. American Unions have since become the single biggest source of internal woe we’ve ever known. Corrupt to their core, led by grifters and thugs, rewarding lazy and incompetent workers, making it economically nonviable for Unionized companies to expand and hire more workers, and hell bent on making this country a slave to their communism-style agenda(s).

America’s Unions are not even remotely virtuous nor even touched by the American Spirit anymore — much less consumed by it. Not by a longshot.

They should tell the companies running these machines that first instance reported will be a “warning”, all others after that will be fined at $100K per report. See how “calibration” improves immediately.

Its not like the entire state is wiped out. Certain areas got hit hard, but people would have had a week to mull it over and find a way to vote.

Mimzey on November 3, 2012 at 5:14 PM

..we’re talking here about a midget mayor who could not decide to cancel a footrace and use the spare resources to help his constituents survive.

The War Planner on November 3, 2012 at 5:16 PM

General Allen here all you Islamophobes and disrespecters of the Great Religion of Peace. These fine well meaning upstanding Muslims were just stressed out from not being able to eat during the day during Ramadan.

Attention!!! General Petraeus here. I condemn the action of the individual in the United States who made a film disrespecting the Great Prophet Mohammad. That action was hateful. It was intolerant, and it was extremely disrespectful. I condemn the actions of a small number of individuals who have been extremely disrespectful to the Holy Qur’an. Together with our Muslim Partners in Peace, we must secure and serve the people of the Muslim world.

General Casey here! Stand at attention! No mater how tragic the untimely death of a few Americans might be to some, abroad or at home, Benghazi or Fort Hood, we must not let this affect the diversity of those who watch our embassies and consulates, or serve in our ranks, as if we did, that would be a much greater tragedy.

I’m sure Christopher Christie or should I call him Chris DISS-tie will totally be on board for the extended voting thing. Good Lord he made the absolute biggest deal out of cancelling Halloween, seems at first that’s all he could think about…no Chris stay away from the butterfingers!

justonevictory on November 3, 2012 at 5:22 PM

Since the left is bigoted they assume the majority of Christians are bigoted against Mormonism, a small portion of Christians (maybe 1-5%) are but 95-99% are not. This kind of attack will not work but it does show their desperation.

IowaWoman on November 3, 2012 at 5:15 PM

In many cases, the left mistakes concern for the souls of Mormons for bigotry. Christians who adhere to scripture can look at Mormonism as a outside of orthodox Christianity and express concern for the salvation of their fellow humans in that heresy, but at the same time admire those people for their patriotism, secular righteousness, and civic actions. This is a lame attack by the left once again trying to dispirit enough voters to get an Obama win. Nothing more.

..a couple of clips of 9mm revenge, I presume?

The War Planner on November 3, 2012 at 5:14 PM

Sorry dipstick. But responsible gun-owners certainly do not joke about or threaten violence. There are limited circumstance unders which you should draw a pistol. The situation described does not lend itself to lethal-force. There certainly is no need to empty two clips magazines.

Showing up on your porch armed (with a recently racked shottie) is more advisable, legal and often does the job.

We all know you don’t aim at something you don’t intend to bury. But standing guard while armed is pragmatic. If they advance on you…defend yourself.

But you’re co-signing on wholesale violence, which makes you a phony, a moby or a clown. You choose.

Also it’s a magazine, unless you carry a one of these.

The ages of those men are embarrassing.

Just saw the Colin Powell ad for Barry – I laughed through the whole thing.

I’m thinking like an entrepreneur here…..I’m gonna design and market a “political sign defense system”. Put a proximity sensor in the sign, and when the sensor moves out of range, the deterrent unit fires a high volume stream of orange, fluorescent skin dye at the perpetrator.

I think retail…$100.00 a pop, plus $5.00 refills for the dye.

BobMbx on November 3, 2012 at 4:16 PM

I did something much simpler by coating the edges of my sign with marine bearing grease. It’s extremely sticky and will permanently stain just about anything. When my sign was stolen a couple of weeks ago, I just laughed and replaced it with a spare one and more grease.

And just how would NY and NJ, if they elect to do the same, affect elections next week in any way? 2 way blue states for who knows how long. Let them vote for a few more days. This is not BFD, as senile moron would say.

I like the way you think.

There is an easier way, although not as satisfying. There is a device called a “Scarecrow” that garden stores sell (or get it online). It is a motion-detector activated impact sprinkler. Properly positioned, it would soak the cretin as he reaches for the sign. I suppose some dye or other deterrent could be loaded into the hose, but just hosing them down would probably run them off before they take the sign.
