Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:01 am on November 1, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

A fine sentiment, issued here by Barack Obama while visiting the Red Cross. “We leave nobody behind,” Obama says to the gathered volunteers. “We make sure that we respond as a nation, and remind ourselves that whenever an American is in need, all of us stand together to make sure that we’re providing the help that’s necessary.”

Of course, he’s talking about a private-sector organization during Hurricane Sandy … not the Obama administration during the seven hours that the Americans in our consulate in Benghazi were “in need,” in which case we apparently stand down rather than stand together.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

The only ones more despicable than Obama on this are the traitorous media wusses in the WHITE HOUSE PRESS CORPSE.

Chuck Todd, Jake Tapper, etc.

And message to talk show hosts like Laura Ingraham and Hannity.

Applauding these WHPC hacks for asking one question and then following up by licking the boots of Jay Carney is in appealing to your listeners. Don’t put these traitors on your shows and give them a platform. Jake Tapper is a whhhhhhhiner supreme.

I gotta say I am too angry about this to really consider it an OOTD.

We apparently don’t just stand down when a consulate is under attack. We also watch the deaths of Americans in real-time and then lie our asses off about it being caused by a video. That’s not a mere OOTD but a reprehensible dereliction of duty.

crazy_legs on November 1, 2012 at 8:22 AM

I think it is more evil than that. Obama was running for political office on the idea that he was a peace-maker in the Middle East, that Al Qaeda was on its heels, and that it was all his doing by his super-smart foreign policies. For that reason, the coordinated attack on that consulate had to be something other than what it was. Obama made the deliberate decision to let those Americans die because it did not fit his campaign rhetoric.

Now, were he screwed up is that he made the assumption that his Rose Garden speech and greeting of the coffins would be the beginning and ending of the story. He did not count on having to send his UN Ambassador out there to commit political seppuku. He did not count on having to maintain the lie as the central point of his own UN speech. He did not count on the Intelligence Community balking at being the chosen scapegoat for his evil decision.

Ed, I see an even bigger Obamateurism here. Why does he feel a need in this context to stand indoors in a suit behind a podium? Wouldn’t the message be better if he delivered it in the field, sans tie, as he surveys the damage and talks to victims? He could then just pause in front of the reporters to praise the Red Cross and other nonprofits for their hard work and then excuse himself to speak with the first responders.

Private Sector Job Creation Beats Estimates for October

The private sector created a better-than-expected 158,000 jobs in October, according to the first report employment data firm ADP released since it changed the way it computes the number.
A day after the firm sharply lowered its original count for September, ADP and Macroeconomic Advisors, working now with Moody’s Analytics, said the service sector once again had a big month for job creation.

Numbers just came out. Subjected to revision in November, of course.

bayview on November 1, 2012 at 8:33 AM

When EX-President Obama is on the streets, after losing this election, I hope the secret service are all ex-military or CIA guys who will remember Obama’s commitment to “Leave no one behind” rhetoric.

As they say in Chicago, “Be a shame if something happened to you like that Libyan ambassador guy”……

It is the Chicago way after all.

Former Pacific Fleet chief: We need full disclosure on Benghazi — now
posted at 9:31 am on October 30, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Retired Admiral James A. Lyons
likely pulled few punches as commander in chief of the US Pacific Fleet during his career … and he hasn’t started pulling punches now, either. In a blistering column at The Washington Times, the former commander blasts the lack of action from the US when the administration learned our consulate in Benghazi had come under attack, writing that “courage was lacking” that might have saved at least some of the four American lives lost on September 11. “Someone high up in the administration,” Lyons writes, “let our people get killed” — and he wants some answers immediately as to whom:

A few members of Congress have sent letters but they’ve gone unanswered too. Apparently the president has given himself far more power than he was entitled to.

You’re focused on the optics not the substance. Like when Al Gore insisted on holding a press conference concerning flooding in TN wearing waders in the water. There is a shot out there of the press all standing on dry land with Gore standing in the water.

The reality is that he could have given that speech from the Whie House Rose Garden. After all, it isn’t just for lying one’s ass off about dead ambassadors. As to surveying the damage, that too is just a photo-op. Nothing of consequence came from Obama’s love fest with Christie yesterday but he sorta had to do it after the media had such a conniption over the fact it took GWB five days to show up in New Orleans after Katrina.

Happy Nomad on November 1, 2012 at 8:42 AM

I don’t know about that but look what one of the “acceptable” pastors Obama associates with thinks about white people. I’m not about to question any individual’s faith but one really has to wonder what the rat-eared wonder thinks of people that don’t look like him or Trayvon Martin.

Pastor Joseph Lowery, a civil rights movement hero who delivered the benediction at President Obama’s inauguration, reportedly said that he is shocked that any black Americans would stay home with Obama on the ballot and suggested that all or most white people would go to hell

Obama only gets SS protection for the next 10 years. Congress changed the law about SS protection for former presidents. They used to get it for life, but not anymore. Starting with George W. Bush, they only get it for 10 years after they leave office.

Of course, Obama will still get a 6-figure presidential pension for life, and we’re still stuck paying for his “office expenses” (which Bill Clinton manages to run up to more than a million a year) for life.

Sources claimed a desperate last request for military assistance made by the CIA when they were attacked was denied, even though elite counter-terrorism units were only two hours away.

Woods and two others defied the orders and made their way to the consulate, by this time ablaze, and started firing on the attackers.

Their presence helped an evacuation of the main building and recovered the body of State Department staff member Sean Smith, who had been killed in the initial attack.

However, the CIA team were unable to locate Ambassador Stevens and returned to their own base around midnight, where they came under attack themselves.

At this point, they called for assistance from Sigonella Air Base in Italy, two hours away, but air support was told to wait – despite the gun battle raging for four hours.
