Report: Benghazi consulate determined in August that it might not withstand “coordinated attack”

posted at 8:41 pm on October 31, 2012 by Allahpundit

This is at least the third separate warning that State got from people in the field about security disintegrating in Benghazi in the last month or so before the assault. Fox News already reported that Stevens sent a cable on August 8 about a “security vacuum” in the city that freed jihadists to attack western targets like the Red Cross “with impunity.” On September 11, the day he was killed, he sent a separate message describing “growing problems with security” due to the weakness of Libyan government forces. What I hadn’t read anywhere until now is that there was a third warning, issued on August 16, focused specifically on the consulate’s defenses to a potential “coordinated attack.” The assessment: Grim. That was the state of play three weeks out from the anniversary of 9/11.

But wait. Why was the consulate suddenly so worried about being the target of a coordinated attack? Because:

“RSO (Regional Security Officer) expressed concerns with the ability to defend Post in the event of a coordinated attack due to limited manpower, security measures, weapons capabilities, host nation support, and the overall size of the compound,” the cable said.

According to a review of the cable addressed to the Office of the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Emergency Action Committee was also briefed “on the location of approximately ten Islamist militias and AQ training camps within Benghazi … these groups ran the spectrum from Islamist militias, such as the QRF Brigade and Ansar al-Sharia, to ‘Takfirist thugs.’” Each U.S. mission has a so-called Emergency Action Committee that is responsible for security measures and emergency planning…

In addition to describing the security situation in Benghazi as “trending negatively,” the cable said explicitly that the mission would ask for more help. “In light of the uncertain security environment, US Mission Benghazi will submit specific requests to US Embassy Tripoli for additional physical security upgrades and staffing needs by separate cover.”…

While the administration’s public statements have suggested that the attack came without warning, the Aug. 16 cable seems to undercut those claims.

Eric Nordstrom had already asked for more security, more than once, before that meeting but got nothing. Evidently the knowledge that Al Qaeda was training in the same city as the consulate wasn’t enough to get State to spring into action either. The Department had no comment when Fox asked what they did during the three weeks in the interim between the emergency meeting and the attack to boost security. No comment either from the White House when four GOP senators sent them a letter today formally requesting more information about the attack. Quoth Kelly Ayotte: “We’ve written already half a dozen letters. … They’ve not answered us. They’re stonewalling us and I think they’re trying to run out the clock until this election.” Certainly, but there’s no reason to think they won’t keep stonewalling afterward even if they win the election. The media’s not going to go to red alert on this, even if they continue to cover it in dribs and drabs. It’s not just the amount of coverage, it’s the tone: Under a Republican president, this rolling clusterfark — before, during, and after — would be treated by press with all the contempt and fury it deserves. As it is, it’s more an occasion for chin-pulling over how curious the administration’s behavior seems. It can’t be that the Foreign Policy President was negligent in his most basic security responsibilities and has now gone quiet to cover his own ass before election day, so there must be another explanation. There must be. Any day now.

Here’s former Bush AG Michael Mukasey wondering why Obama needs an investigation before he reveals what he personally knew about the attack and whether he took any action to stop it.

If this man somehow manages to get reelected, the House should convene to draw up articles of impeachment as soon as his demonic hand is lifted off of the Holy Bible.

And include that dunce of a vice president in the proceedings as well.

If we’re going to have a Constitutional crisis, then let’s do it right and make sure that the domestic enemies thereof are permanently silenced.

Here’s former Bush AG Michael Mukasey wondering why Obama needs an investigation before he reveals what he personally knew about the attack and whether he took any action to stop it.

He is looking for someone else’s ass to kick before we kick his.

I swear, if it comes out that he told the military to stand down and not act to aid the Americans in Benghazi, then I cannot put into words the amount of pain and suffering that I hope befalls him and his family for the rest of time.

Let them feel the pain that the parents, spouses, children, siblings, friends, and colleagues of those he left behind, which he claims is something that “we don’t do,” currently do and will continue to for the rest of their lives.

And depending on what kind of margin he would by in the scenario, equals what degree of balls Congress would have to indict Hillary, Panetta, Biden, Donilon, let alone Barry.

And we move closer to the brink.

And I add the indictment of Biden because the clown has been in the midst of every major foreign policy decision. His pattern has been to not make waves – do not help the iranian uprising, don’t go into Pakistan, don’t touch Syria – so Benghazi fits his logic train.

He didn’t stay there on the 11th. He went there on the 11th to meet with the Turkish Consul General. The meeting was almost certainly about Turkey’s concerns regarding the US arming the Syrian rebels, as a shipload of weapons en route to Syria had been discovered in the Turkish port of Iskenderun — 35 miles from the Syrian border — the previous week.

Why do the Syrian rebels, who are affiliated with al Qaeda, have American-made Stinger missiles? How did they get them? Who gave the Stingers to al Qaeda-affiliated groups?

They know heavy coverage would have ended Barry in swing states, and they’re terrified of being called “enablers” by their political/media counterparts.

So, if Barry squeaks by, they’re going to bury him in this, out of hopes it forces him to change policy and act like Clinton.

But, if somehow he carries large enough win to call it a mandate, they won’t cover shite because they’ll be afraid to take him on.

**************** Seven Long Hours *****************

Heres a re-posty,as US Special OPS Phoned in to the States for a AC-130!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember watching a Navy Seal Documentry,I think on History Channel, and the SEALS were tasked to secure the Government Building,

almost out of ammuntion, and had to use a cell phone to call back into the States to re-establish communication, and as the drama
increased,finally they made contact,and had a AC-130 tasked to
take out the APC that was attacking the building and the goons
that surrounded it,just in time for back-up,by other US Troops!!
——————————————————————

Governor-General’s mansion
***************************

To reach the governor-general’s mansion, the SEALs were flown in on Black Hawk helicopters that morning, and fast-roped to the ground while under fire.[41] As they approached from the back of the mansion, the team found Scoon hiding. The SEALs then continued to clear the rest of the house and began to set up a perimeter to ensure security.[41] Soon the mansion started to take fire from men armed with AK-47s and RPGs.

As the incoming fire started to increase, Governor-General Scoon and his family were moved to a safer location in the house. After the incoming fire had decreased, three men wearing Cuban uniforms approached the mansion, all of them carrying AK-47s. The SEALs shouted for the three men to stop where they were. When the three men heard the yells, they raised their weapons. The SEALs opened fire on the Cubans and killed them almost instantly.[41]

Soon afterward, two BTR-60PBs rolled up to the mansion’s gates.

One of the BTRs at the mansion’s front gate opened fire. Just as the SEALs were about to fire a LAW anti-tank rocket, the BTR backed off and left with the other BTR.[41] When the SEALs had been inserted into the compound, they left behind their long-range SATCOM radio on a helicopter;[41] the only communications the team had were through MX-360 radios.

The team used the radios to communicate with a SEAL command post on the island to call in air strikes. As the radios’ batteries started to fade, communications with the SEAL command post became weak. Once all the radios had died, when the SEALs urgently needed air support,

they used a regular house phone to call JSOC,[41] which was able to get an AC-130 Spectre gunship to hold station over the SEALs’ position to provide air support.

Given how Obama has dissed the press over the past four years, I don’t think there’s a lot of love for him compared to how much they think they are the seekers of truth. Hence, once they can destroy his presidency without it hurting their ability to stop the evil Republicans, they’ll do it.

Given this element of intelligence, there is now way that military forces would not have leaned forward to assist or evacuate the American citizens in Bengazi. I cannot imagine the Sixth Fleet no having the ARG with the Marine Expeditionary Unit not within striking distance. BTW the USS Enterprise was stationed in the Med.

Why did they assume that? Do you know why? It’s SOP! Troops in contact NEED air support, that’s it! it was denied.

…which is possible since we’re talking military intel and he has the contacts…

…and we have a tape of Ty Woods yelling for supressing fire so they can escape…

…I honestly do not know how anyone escapes that.

This is why I wonder whydoes Barry still want to win?

Forget the tired Limbaugh arguments of narcissism.

If Ty Woods is on tape, he’ll have to hand it over. If it “disappears”, then public sentiment will be fueled by imagination, of how bad it must have been.

He does not have a Benghazi gamut to run, and his pattern has been to bury a scandal with a national emergency.

So at this scale, cabinet indictments, that’s freaking terrifying. He already got Bin Laden. His only option left is to buckle to Russia, let Iran go nuclear and declare it as an accord with the Iranian government, on the condition Putin gets Assad to step down.

Caliphate here we come.

State hires contractor for security.

Said UK contractor can’t get anyone on the ground in Libya and sub-contracts the work locally.

Sub-contractor is local militia, affiliated with al Qaeda.

Net result: State Dept hires al Qaeda for security.

The four men who died at Benghazi died as a result of a “Perfect Storm” of incompetence and depravity at the White House (Obama and his inner circle), State (Hillary), Defense (Panetta and the Joint Chiefs) and CIA (Petraeus). And but for the courageous and self-sacraficing actions of the two former Navy Seals far more would have died.

“RSO (Regional Security Officer) expressed concerns with the ability to defend Post in the event of a coordinated attack due to limited manpower, security measures, weapons capabilities, host nation support, and the overall size of the compound,” the cable said.

Sep 11-

Coordinated attack resulted in the deaths of four Americans due to limited manpower, security measures, weapons capabilities, host nation support, and the overall size of the compound.

Washington Response. It was all about some video. A lie the administration has yet to refute even though they’ve imprisoned the producer of that video.

Um, if there was gun running to Syrian rebels involved, without congressional authorization or knowledge (and I don’t profess to know anything about what is going on on that area), wouldn’t this be Iran-Contra on steriods, seeing as 4 Americans were murdered. Libs still — 30 years later — crow about Iran-Contra. You’d think SOME, SOME aspiring journalist would be interested in getting to the bottom of this!!!!!!!!!!!

Barry does not want to win. He wants to bring this nation to its knees. It has been his life long ambition. It is what he has had drummed into his head all his life. He is, without question, the most dangerous threat to our way of life, because he is “from within” and currently at the top seat of power.

there are similarities in the “before” stage as in clinton denying armor support–tanks/bradleys, however, at least there were Black Hawks that could go down there and a force available to respond. These guys died with their d!cks in their hands and NOTHING coming out of the sky for them. ZERO ZILCH NADA. It’s WORSE than BHD !!!!!

What is AQIM’s biggest obstacle to taking down any regime? Governments tend to have air forces, and the main AQ targets in the ME all have them.

How do you get MANPADs from a regime? Have someone else neutralize the air force of a target regime that has both… like Kaddafy. That also gets you tribal conflicts, the spread of arms into Africa, and a good chance to move MANPADs against another regime.

That is done.

Where do the MANPADs show up? In Syria via Turkey.

What does Assad have? An air force and MANPADs. If you take him down, then you replenish the MANPADs.

With that what does AQIM do? Go after the next target regime that they can soften up via terrorism and take down its air force with MANPADs. Choices open up after Syria, and al Qaeda is seen as the Strong Horse.

Libya will be in chaos.

Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Burkina Faso will see an influx of arms and disgruntled ethnicities, ripe for getting a civil war started. Which AQIM can support from places like Algeria.

Where does Hillary Clinton show up?

Algeria.

Why? To encourage it to get involved with the brewing ethnic strife in Mali.

How does everything that has been done from the start of the ‘Arab Spring’ not help al Qaeda?

If you have ever served overseas on foreign soil, the loneliest, most disheartening feeling a soldier can feel is to get hurt/wounded and then to be left all alone…………far away from his own country……….left to die.

What do you tell that man’s mother???? I’m sorry ma’am, he was all alone, he was cold, hungry, thirsty and under fire….. we wish we could’ve helped and we could’ve but we’re sorry…..

No way no way no way. THIS is no way for any man, any American man to die in battle. Hell, even the Spartans brought their fallen home on their shields! They didn’t leave them out on the battlefield like road kill on the highway.

travesty. I am really upset about this,, my apologies.
