Matthews: Team Romney sure is getting “desperate” in Ohio

posted at 1:21 pm on October 31, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Since Obama is hitting the auto-bailout theme pretty hard in the manufacturing-heavy and still up-in-the-presidential-air state of Ohio, the Left got into quite the tizzy with one of Romney’s attempts to puncture the inflated narrative, with fact-checkers and pundits crying foul. Matthews summarizes the Jeep/China drama at the start of his segment:

Brit Hume summed up the real situation in one succinct tweet:

While it is true that Romney did misstate the facts in that first stump speech in Ohio, the Jeep ad itself is factually correct, and more than anything merely serves to point out that President Obama gave a taxpayer-funded bailout to a company that does practice offshoring — to which Obama has repeatedly professed opposition in principle (well, to outsourcing, anyway, but I digress). Matthews tries to argue that the Jeep production that Chrysler is thinking of creating in China would be for Jeeps that will be sold in China, but as his guest former RNC chairman Michael Steele points out, hello — exports, anyone? American workers can make even more money by shipping products abroad as well as selling them domestically.

Anyways, there is definitely a heavy stench of desperation hanging over this election, but the wind isn’t blowing from the Romney camp.

I gotta honestly say I don’t get pretending all is well in the world. Wouldn’t pressing the panic button and pleading for people to turnout for your side be more productive? This silly pretending that states are in the bag when the truth is far from that seems rather counter-productive to me.

People like Mathews should be forced to live in a country in the image of what he promotes.

He should also be fired immediately since there isn’t a single thing he says that anyone can believe, and just on that point alone and the resulting damage he does to any network he represents credibility, you would think he’d be unemployable.

If Flordia and Virginia are called early for Romney with Ohio, New Hampshire, and Wisconsin in the “too close to call” category then I will definitely check in on MSNBC for the lulz. In fact, I think I will DVR their election night coverage.

If Romney picks up New Hampshire while retaking all the red states McCain lost in the East, and with Ohio and Wisconsin still in the mix, then MSNBC will be totally worth watching.

Late in the night, if Romney loses Ohio but then wins the election through Wisconsin and New Hampshire…30 Rock will be in full meltdown. It will be glorious.

LOL.

I, for one, am amused by the trolls who repeat as fact anything from a party and organization who they insist should be allowed to lie and state whatever they want to manipulate the populace.

You were here repeating that Romney murdered a man’s wife because OFA told you he did. You were here repeating that Trig Palin wasn’t Sarah Palin’s child because the Obama campaign told you so.

Did you ever think that the group that you justify lying to everyone else to get what they want from them could also be lying to you?

Christien on October 31, 2012 at 1:54 PM

..sorry to be repetitious, Erika, but Romney’s campaign surely does smack of desperation what with all of the cash and resources they have left on hand to prosecute the final week of this war:

There are only 6 days left to campaign and following the Hurricane Sandy pause Team Romney is gearing up for a final push to close out the cycle that would dwarf any prior campaign’s effort. According to CNN, Team Romney will hit 11-states with all-stars from the GOP’s deep bench, Colorado, Ohio, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin:

Mitt Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, will kick off a four-day tour starting Friday, where they’ll be joined by their wives and 100 surrogates in the final days of the White House race, his campaign announced Wednesday.

The tour starts off with a rally in West Chester, Ohio, the hometown of House Speaker John Boehner. Aside from Boehner, featured guests that day include former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Boehner will depart on his own bus tour in Ohio from Saturday to Monday.

In the four days before Election Day, the surrogates will fan out across eleven battleground states: Colorado, Ohio, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

A campaign source confirmed that Romney will be at the Verizon Center in Manchester, New Hampshire on Monday night, and Kid Rock will perform, as well.

On Wednesday, Romney and Ryan resume the campaign trail after canceling some events due to conditions related to Superstorm Sandy. Romney will travel to Florida for three campaign events, where he’ll appear with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and U.S. Senate candidate Connie Mack. Ryan, meanwhile, will make stops in Wisconsin.

In other word the net lose for democrats in absentee ballots alone is 135,000… Obama won Ohio in 2008 by only 260,000 and he is already losing 135,000 among absentee votes alone and assuming that all democrats are voting him in this category.

You do realise that Fiat’s own CEO has said that the company is considering manufacturing new model Jeeps in Italy, don’t you?

Yes, that means that older models will be manufactured in the US, but they will be phased out. He said it last month.

You do realise that Fiat will be manufacturing Jeeps in China for sale there so that they can avoid paying the tariff, which cuts into their profit margin, don’t you?

Those Jeeps will not be manufactured in the US and exported to China.

I would think that a good 99%er like you would argue that Jeep should continue to be manufactured in the US and that Fiat should just eat the tariff, i.e., take a smaller profit margin.

By the way, luv, not all polls have Obama leading in Ohio. Rasmussen has Romney +2 and the Ohio newspaper consortium poll and Suffolk both have the race tied.

GM obviously smacked down Romney because they want Obama to be president so they can get more money from him. I don’t agree with it 100%, but if Romney had offered to keep them in business instead of letting them self-destruct he wouldn’t be stuck in this situation.

akaniku on October 31, 2012 at 2:06 PM

GM is an Obama Party propaganda outlet. Obama ordered GM to attack Romney. GM is not a private company; it is a government-owned company, and thus it is doing nothing more than repeating Obama’s propaganda and lies.

Meanwhile, people need to be reminded what you and your fellow Obama bigots were demanding yesterday.

If this is true, then you’re unpatriotic and borderline treasonous. Our patriotic duty as Americans is to work hard to our FULL POTENTIAL and pay taxes to help other people and keep the government running as usual.

Luckily Obama will probably remedy the economic problem of producers failing to produce through executive orders in his second term. It should be illegal.

akaniku on October 30, 2012 at 11:53 AM

You ran away when your fascist lies were exposed, especially when I pointed out how desperate fascists like you support and endorse tax cheats and welfare frauds while demanding that people be jailed for not producing enough for the god-king Obama.

northdallasthirty on October 31, 2012 at 2:16 PM

and now the auto companies are calling Romney a liar …

U2denver on October 31, 2012 at 1:57 PM

What auto companies? The Fiat-owned Chrysler, set to move Jeep production to Italy? General Motors, that already produces Cadillacs in China or Ford Motor Company that didn’t take the bail out and is closing plants in Europe and (rumor has it) opening new plants in the U.S.?

totherightofthem on October 31, 2012 at 2:17 PM

Hey, remember when Fiat was going to buy the remaining 41.5% of Chrysler stock that is owned by the United Auto Workers-run hourly retiree health care trust?

Why is Fiat doing this when they have all of those Ohio workers and retirees to think about?

“The goal is to get the company’s European factories humming again by increasing exports and concentrating on higher-volume vehicles.”

Screw Ohio.

Akaniku may be the exception. Many of us think he is a Borat style humorist.
NotCoach on October 31, 2012 at 2:15 PM

Someone created a sleeper account with the idea that in a year they could do a Borat gig in a year right before the election? That’s a stretch.

auto companies smack down Romney in Ohio … great news for the President … all polls in Ohio showing Obama ahead …

“My Brain Hurts!”

Del Dolemonte on October 31, 2012 at 2:24 PM

breaking news … President Obama is back up 8 points in Wisconsin in the Marquette Poll( which the GOP loved mid October… and the keynoter of the GOP convention Christie loving Big Government and praising the President with enthusiasm …

U2denver on October 31, 2012 at 2:03 PM

Gumby’s twin?

Bitter Clinger on October 31, 2012 at 2:24 PM

Oh good grief! Need I remind you that this girl is five years away from voting? Wouldn’t it be better if she were poltically aware before then?

Happy Nomad on October 31, 2012 at 1:52 PM

Same age as the singing obamabots and just because I agree with this girl doesn’t mean I’m going to talk out of the other side of my mouth. Good hypocritical grief yourself.

Ronnie on October 31, 2012 at 1:54 PM

Boys, boys…. play nice. Did the young lady make the vid herself, or maybe with a friend or two, and thus demonstrate an admirable amount of awareness? Big difference between that and a pro enlisting a bunch of kids to spout propaganda…

Resist we much etc.the Ohio poll showing Romney tied was taken before the last debate …they are out today with a new poll showing Obama winning ,on a day where the gop convention keynoter Christie is praising the President and the Federal Government with great enthusiasm …

I cannot wait to see this network meltdown on Nov 6th.

Schadenfreudius Maximus.

Whilst I have no idea who will win or when the results will be agreed, I’ll be following it on MSNBC to watch Matthews pass out.

God does have a sense of humor which is why I am betting Keith Olberman gets a guest spot on the big night. If/When Romney wins, we need an oh-so-very “Special Comment” from KO.

No doubt, but Occam’s Razor says the extremely lame, unimaginative troll explanation is more likely.

tommyboy on October 31, 2012 at 2:29 PM

I, for one, am amused by the trolls who repeat as fact anything from a party and organization who they insist should be allowed to lie and state whatever they want to manipulate the populace.

You were here repeating that Romney murdered a man’s wife because OFA told you he did. You were here repeating that Trig Palin wasn’t Sarah Palin’s child because the Obama campaign told you so.

Did you ever think that the group that you justify lying to everyone else to get what they want from them could also be lying to you?

northdallasthirty on October 31, 2012 at 1:53 PM

Of course he/she knows that, but it’s ok because it’s all about their “cause.” Any act is permissible no matter how vile and despicable as long as it furthers their ideology.

dogsoldier on October 31, 2012 at 2:30 PM

This guy can’t even say the name of his own show! Listen at the beginning, he says “Welcome back to Hardway…”

Yeah, yeah, smart-azzes.

You try broadcasting the Official Truth to an audience of 50 people after downing a bottle of Ketel One.

It ain’t beanbag.
