The Ed Morrissey Show: Andrew Malcolm; Dennis Prager on capital punishment

posted at 1:01 pm on October 30, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Today on The Ed Morrissey Show (3 pm ET), my friend Andrew Malcolm joins us as always on today’s TEMS at 3 pm ET! The Prince of Twitter and I will discuss the election, Hurricane Sandy, and all of the hot political stories of the day. The last twenty minutes will be our Lightning Round, where our Chatizens ask the questions and we provide the pithy answers, so be sure to register for your free Ustream account today to participate!

In bonus minutes, I am pleased to welcome Dennis Prager, my Salem colleague and one of my favorite talk-radio hosts!  Dennis will discuss the latest video from Prager University, a must-read website in which Dennis and other notable thinkers provide in-depth philosophical and political analysis.  Today, Dennis talks about why we need the death penalty, which I personally oppose — so be sure to tune in to watch Dennis school me on both this topic and talk-show hosting.

Debating Dennis is like having to follow Herman Cain on stage … or Dennis himself.  I’ve done both and enjoyed it, but was under no illusions about how it turned out.

The Ed Morrissey Show and its dynamic chatroom can be seen on the permanent TEMS page. Be sure to join us, and don’t forget to keep up with the debate on my Facebook page, too!

Keep praying that Marizela Perez will be found, and peace brought to her family.

I will try to tune in – DP rocks

According to roughly a dozen recent studies, executions save lives. For each inmate put to death, the studies say, 3 to 18 murders are prevented.

Additionally, executed murderers don’t go on to commit additional murders while in prison, e.g., prison guards, prison employees, ordering murders of people outside prison, murders during an escape, etc.

You might want to listen to a discussion on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show on the subject of the death penalty and California Prop 34, seeking to abolish it in the state with former L.A. District Attorney Gil Garcetti, former warden of San Quentin prison, Jeanne Woodford,Judy Kerr who lost her brother to and more. murder.http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thehallicasserjayneshow/2012/10/24/the-death-penalty

You might want to listen to a discussion on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show on the subject of the death penalty and California Prop 34…

The CJ Political Report on October 30, 2012 at 2:05 PM

Why? It’s just one sided clap trap by those who oppose it.

Blake on October 30, 2012 at 2:20 PM

Clarification: Those who oppose the DP and support Prop 34 which seeks to abolish capital punishment.

Blake on October 30, 2012 at 2:21 PM

Regarding that prop 34 in California.

Years ago it was decided that minors, convicted as ADULTS of MURDER, should not be eligible for the death penalty in California.

Now, THIS YEAR, they have now decided that these same MURDERS, because they were NOT GIVEN the death penalty, MUST be eligible for RELEASE!

This is what the slipery slope of repealing the death penalty leads to!

Freddy on October 30, 2012 at 2:28 PM

Just thought I’d comment to keep your lead over the bacon thread folks Ed.

Freddy on October 30, 2012 at 2:28 PM

The same people who oppose the DP and got this prop on the ballot also oppose lwop and life sentences. They want us to be like europe where the average sentence for murder is about 15 years.

Blake on October 30, 2012 at 2:50 PM

The Obama Administrations negotiating over the release of the Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman and the pressure brought by Egypt and Islamist terrorist groups for his release is one good argument for the death penalty. If the juries and the courts take it out of the hands of the politicians then they don’t have an opportunity to betray us for political or economic reasons. Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, the Lockerbie Bomber, is another example.

Awesome that you got Prager, Ed. One of the best.

I’ll have to watch the recorded version. Have you started podcasting TEMS?

CorporatePiggy on October 30, 2012 at 3:18 PM

Prager is a notable thinker?

That’s funny.

Dante on October 30, 2012 at 3:44 PM

Given that government is inherently force and coercion, and given that the system isn’t perfect … the death penalty is immoral. Granted, even if the system were perfect and no innocent people were put to death or could potentially be put to death, it would still be immoral.

Besides, government isn’t a victim of capital crimes; people are. Government should have no say in administering punishment for crimes of which it is not victim.

Dante on October 30, 2012 at 3:44 PM

Very funny. He’s about the bottom of the barrel of conservative talk radio. Right down there with William Bennett.

“Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.”

Is this clear enough?

So we should allow Jeffery Dahmer, Ailene Wuornos, John Gacy, and Ted Bundy to breathe. . .air? At society’s expense?

I think pedophiles and serial rapists should be executed.

Kind of funny how progressives and liberals find compassion for the worst villains and monsters on the planet, yet will toss a infant on a stainless steel table to freeze to death without guilt or remorse.

Just in case those bacon twins make a run at it. Oh, and Dante. Have you an answer to my question yet? Its coming up on a year, should have been plenty of time. Say isn’t ricv404 at the bottom of the commenter barrel, or do I have it confused with someone else?
