Obama in 2008: The real question is will this country be better off four years from now?

posted at 8:01 pm on October 29, 2012 by Mary Katharine Ham

Two Mondays before Election Day in 2008, Barack Obama was on stage at the Canton Memorial Civic Center in Ohio making his closing argument.

“It is time, Canton, to try something new. The question of this election is not are you better off than you were four years ago. We all know the answer to that. The real question is will this country be better off four years from now?”

Fast forward to 1:30, past the ironic scolding of Sen. John McCain for making a big campaign about small things:

Watch on as Obama makes bold, familiar, and broken promises, like getting rid of tax breaks for companies that ship business overseas, that the only change to your insurance will be that your premiums go down, and of course, that he’ll change the way politics as usual is done.

On this day in 2008, the Gallup daily tracker showed Obama up five points among likely voters, “while a CBS/New York Times poll put his lead at 13 points and an ABC/Washington Post poll said he was 9 points up,” as reported by the New York Post.

The New York Times ran a smoochy profile on David Axelrod— “an adviser fills a role that exceeds his title”— and noted both candidates were, “heading into the final week of the presidential campaign planning to spend nearly all their time in states that President Bush won last time, testimony to the increasingly dire position of Mr. McCain and his party as Election Day approaches.”

The Washington Post reported on its own poll showing Obama up eight points in battleground Virginia and highlighted a candidate Obama who “avoids partisan rhetoric, focuses on unity.”

Yeah, those were the days, huh?

The Obama voter really couldn’t care about reality, whether 2008 or 2012.

The Romney voter knows the reality.

It’s the “middle of the road/Indy/non-ideologue who is experiencing the failure – and it will be reflected in the vote next week.

Manipulated “unemployment” from the WH will also be reflected in next week’s vote, through real suppressed and unemployed folks.

What this moron says is irrelevant.

As to the video and Obama quotes above, how convenient it must be for someone to be able to say something that’s on record for all to see and hear and know that the liberal government-worshiping media will never remind anyone of it. A license to spill.

As we all know, we have a major hole to get ourselves out of. Will Mitt slow down the growth of Govt. enough to allow this to happen? Who Knows. My guess is we’ll have to hold his feet to the fire, so he doesn’t give away the farm while he “Reaches Across The Aisle”, as he’s wont to say! In the mean time we better find a way to check the rampant Soros funded voter fraud going on of it won’t make any difference.

Most of the folks up there aren’t prepared for a hurricane like this one, for sure, and with the other two storm systems coming from the west and north, I don’t know how you’d prepare for all of it. This isn’t going to pretty, to say the least.

The damage that Obama has done to the modern day Democrat party will be the best thing to happen for the country going forward. His failure marks the end of a 40 year period that began with Warren Beatty helping to craft the Democratic Platform in the ’72 election. This was supposed to be the Baby Boomer’s moment, the one they’ve been waiting for since they convinced themselves that, had he lived and gotten re-elected, JFK would have made common cause with the hippie movement.

At a certain point in his life, most likely when he was in college, Obama figured out they he was the kind of Black man that White Liberals would swoon over. He then realized that in a political party obsessed with identity politics, with Blacks at the top of the totem pole of victimhood, he could flimflam his way all the way up the political ladder. He accomplished this so quickly and with such ease, that he felt emboldened to make everything about himself, and make everyone in his party sacrifice for his sake. When the wreckage is examined, many Democrats will see him for the self centered destructive force that he is.

And if Romney does a good job, and becomes the kind of successful, adult leader that Independent voters thought they’d be getting with Hillary Clinton four years ago, and they realize that public sector unions and entitlements need to be reined in, as well as Blacks giving a fair shake to both Black Republicans and Conservative Black community leaders, we may see a new Democrat party emerge that will be far less toxic than the one we’ve had for most of my lifetime.

Obama in 2008: The real question is will this country be better off four years from now?

The scam artist and “community organizer” thought, at the time, that he could just kick his feet up, play golf 4 times a week, and the economy would recover by itself. Maybe focus on some “stimulus” spending (which was really a massive looting of the treasury to pay back the people who helped elect him) and get 0bamacare passed.

He was dreadfully wrong. The economic downturn was worse than his handlers led him to believe, and he totally dropped the ball. Now, 4 years later, his words (and actions) are coming back to haunt him.

He is truly an amateur. Time for him and his asinine advisors like Valerie Jarrett to step aside and let the adults take charge. (h/t to getalife)

UltimateBob on October 29, 2012 at 10:49 PM

Answer: Hell no, unless you love welfare, food stamps or SSI.

Philly on October 29, 2012 at 10:49 PM

For once Obama asks a good question.

Unfortunately… if the past 4 years are any sort of prediction… re-electing him would be a terrible mistake.

The problem is that the Republicans do a good job of helping them to forget.
