Quotes of the day

posted at 9:16 pm on October 27, 2012 by Allahpundit

The White House on Saturday flatly denied that President Barack Obama withheld requests for help from the besieged American compound in Benghazi, Libya, as it came under on attack by suspected terrorists on September 11th.

“Neither the president nor anyone in the White House denied any requests for assistance in Benghazi,” National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor told Yahoo News by email…

“Would the secretary of defense make such a decision on his own? No,” [Bill] Kristol wrote. “It would have been a presidential decision.”

“He’s wrong,” said Vietor.

***

Bill Kristol suggests that it had to be a decision by Obama himself not to help the Americans under siege in Benghazi and that David Petraeus is signaling exactly that with the CIA’s emphatic denial that the decision came from his shop. If that’s true, at what point does Petraeus have to speak out? If the reports are true, I think you can make the case that Petraeus should resign in protest. But that’s based somewhat on speculation about what I think happened. I don’t know for sure. Petraeus does.

***

“President Obama today said that he gave an order to everyone while the attack was going on to do everything they could to secure the personnel,” [former Reagan assistant secretary of defense Bing] West said. “Now that’s really big because that means that those who were turning down [former Navy SEAL] Ty Woods when he was asking for the help were going against the orders of the president of the United States.”…

“A chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff doesn’t take an order from the president when he says ‘do everything’ and not put that in writing and send it out to the chain of command,” West said. “If that actually happened the way President Obama today said it happened, there’s a paper trail and I think people reasonably enough can say, ‘well can we see the order?’ because hundreds of others supposedly saw this order.”

“But if there is no order then people have to ask some very basic questions, ‘what the heck happened?’” he said.

***

1.) To whom did the president give the first of his “three very clear directives”—that is, “make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to?”…

7.) Was the president made aware of the repeated requests for assistance from the men under attack? When and by whom?…

9.) Did the president refuse to authorize an armed drone strike on the attackers?

10.) Did the president refuse to authorize a C-130 [Spectre gunship] to enter Libyan airspace during the attack?

***

[A]s of right now, outside of a very few exceptions, the CorruptMedia has coordinated with the White House to create a complete blackout around this story. Not even yesterday’s denial from the CIA that indirectly implicates the White House garnered any media attention.

In the closing days of a reelection campaign the CorruptMedia is desperate to see Obama win, it’s glaringly obvious that nothing this potentially damaging to the president will be allowed to see the light of day — at least not until after November 6.

Had Obama answered Clark’s question yesterday, he would’ve violated this unspoken blackout agreement by making news. This would’ve forced the CorruptMedia to cover a story they’re desperate to pretend doesn’t exist. Obama knows his Media Palace Guards are covering for him, and he knew that wouldn’t have been possible had he done anything that nudged the story.

The state polling has made me more optimistic, but those national polls are so horrible. I have to tell you, whatever happens. I can not *wait* for this election season to be over. This must be what a crack addict looks like. I hate it, but I can’t quit it. Not for 9 more days.

Ed Klein stated that the Clinton’s legal team told him that there were documents that showed President Obama denied the requests for additional security at the Benghazi Consulate despite Hillary Clinton’s request for more security. He also said that Bill Clinton wants to release the documents to exonerate his wife. (The Blaze TV)

davidk on October 28, 2012 at 12:44 AM

I don’t think this is necessarily untrue, in fact I would guess, if I had to, that it is true, but unless the Clintons show their cards, rather than just spread rumors, I will have to “assume” they are lying.

The proliferation of junk swing state polls lately are designed to keep Obama’s idiot base feeling optimistic. However, 12 days ago, when the first Gallup national poll came out with Romney over 50 and Obama stuck in the mid-40s and before the Dems had a chance to get their “spin” straight, Bob Beckel admitted the truth on the Five — it was over because there was no way a challenger candidate with those numbers would go back under 50% by the election.

Since then Romney has maintained over 50% in Gallup (a percentage Obama has *never* hit in it) & Obama has been stuck in the mid-40s. So the moron horde is lapping up the junk swing state polls (part of the Dem “spin” that even Beckel is shilling now as if he hadn’t blurted out the truth on 10/16) rather than face the simple fact that the reason some states are “swing” is because their populations reflect the balance of what you get when you combine the red & blue states on a national level (as the Gallup national poll does).

This is also the reason for the Dem wish casting of Romney winning the popular vote but losing the EC — yeah, right — with all the hugely populated deep blue states like CA, NY, etc in the mix, it’s the GOP candidate who is at risk of losing the EC while winning the popular vote. Ain’t.Gonna.Happen.

For the love of cheese, Obama supporters are easily fooled.

Heck, I dunno’, probably by now. My geology experience is decades old.

But the increased frequency was being talked about then.

cozmo on October 28, 2012 at 12:11 AM

Global Frequency of Earthquakes

http://www.earthquakescanada.nrcan.gc.ca/info-gen/magfreq-eng.php

Are earthquakes really on the increase?

No, earthquakes occur at more or less at the same rate every year. For more info: USGS web site

Super quakes have happened in the past, and they will happen again. Swarms precede large quakes, and in some cases mitigate them.
cozmo on October 28, 2012 at 12:24 AM

Close, but generally no:

No. It takes many, many small earthquakes to release the amount of energy equivalent to a large earthquake. The amount of energy released increases about 40 times every time there is an increase of one unit on the magnitude scale. Thus, if we consider a small earthquake at the felt level, about magnitude 2, there would have to be 40x40x40x40x40x40x40 of these earthquakes to release the amount of energy as one magnitude 9 event. That is about one million small earthquakes a day, every day, for 500 years. That level of earthquake activity is not observed.

I knew I shouldn’t have checked back.

I got ya’. I was pointing out that folks have been wringing their hands about a perceived increase in activity, not an actual increase.

Its not the energy many small quakes would relieve. That’s going to happen any way due to the stress. It’s swallow quakes along a fault that can be mitigated by many small quakes. A fault moving 10 inches, an inch at a time over 10 quakes relieves the same stress on the fault as a single quake slipping 10 inches at once.

Now stop it y’all. I mean it this time.

Those ladies can kick it. Classical music with a little modern tempo. They do some good stuff. And the “hawtness” doesn’t hurt. :O

Boys will be boys. It’s what we do. ;)

I’m learning so much about you all. It’s very enlightening.

Now stop it y’all. I mean it this time.

Stress fields are not the same as strain.

Fault offset is not the same measurement as moment magnitude.

The length and area of fault rupture is an important factor, so adding up offsets and comparing them is not really a complete analysis.

Okay I’ll stop now. G’night!

Assassins Tango

This is probably too suggestive, but I’m assuming you’re all over 21 and its late. I’m going to watch Predators video. Enjoy.

thatsafactjack on October 28, 2012 at 1:46 AM

Not at all too suggestive, again very spicy and elegant. Great pick. Love the title, too.

My 2 cents. This is where Romney/Ryan are at right now but I have faith because obama/biden have crashed & burned.

Adios: vaya con dios.

At least you understand where I’m coming from. But very talented, yes?

I’ve got a couple of CDs of theirs. And a DVD of them live at the Royal Albert Hall. Very good.

No live stuff here, but my fav piece from them. Always will be.

I’m glad you liked it.

I try to pre-screen them all, since some are a little more ‘raw’ than others.

However, the tango is meant to be fire an ice. I try to find the one’s that suit. :)

I certainly do understand where your coming from in that it’s always a plus when an entertainer is attractive visually.

I’m listening to ‘Kismet’ as I write this. Its wonderful.

I must say, Predator, I’m very impressed that you like this genre and style of music. It’s a side of you I’d not seen until tonight. We have this, too, in common. :)
