Quotes of the day

posted at 9:16 pm on October 27, 2012 by Allahpundit

The White House on Saturday flatly denied that President Barack Obama withheld requests for help from the besieged American compound in Benghazi, Libya, as it came under on attack by suspected terrorists on September 11th.

“Neither the president nor anyone in the White House denied any requests for assistance in Benghazi,” National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor told Yahoo News by email…

“Would the secretary of defense make such a decision on his own? No,” [Bill] Kristol wrote. “It would have been a presidential decision.”

“He’s wrong,” said Vietor.

***

Bill Kristol suggests that it had to be a decision by Obama himself not to help the Americans under siege in Benghazi and that David Petraeus is signaling exactly that with the CIA’s emphatic denial that the decision came from his shop. If that’s true, at what point does Petraeus have to speak out? If the reports are true, I think you can make the case that Petraeus should resign in protest. But that’s based somewhat on speculation about what I think happened. I don’t know for sure. Petraeus does.

***

“President Obama today said that he gave an order to everyone while the attack was going on to do everything they could to secure the personnel,” [former Reagan assistant secretary of defense Bing] West said. “Now that’s really big because that means that those who were turning down [former Navy SEAL] Ty Woods when he was asking for the help were going against the orders of the president of the United States.”…

“A chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff doesn’t take an order from the president when he says ‘do everything’ and not put that in writing and send it out to the chain of command,” West said. “If that actually happened the way President Obama today said it happened, there’s a paper trail and I think people reasonably enough can say, ‘well can we see the order?’ because hundreds of others supposedly saw this order.”

“But if there is no order then people have to ask some very basic questions, ‘what the heck happened?’” he said.

***

1.) To whom did the president give the first of his “three very clear directives”—that is, “make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to?”…

7.) Was the president made aware of the repeated requests for assistance from the men under attack? When and by whom?…

9.) Did the president refuse to authorize an armed drone strike on the attackers?

10.) Did the president refuse to authorize a C-130 [Spectre gunship] to enter Libyan airspace during the attack?

***

[A]s of right now, outside of a very few exceptions, the CorruptMedia has coordinated with the White House to create a complete blackout around this story. Not even yesterday’s denial from the CIA that indirectly implicates the White House garnered any media attention.

In the closing days of a reelection campaign the CorruptMedia is desperate to see Obama win, it’s glaringly obvious that nothing this potentially damaging to the president will be allowed to see the light of day — at least not until after November 6.

Had Obama answered Clark’s question yesterday, he would’ve violated this unspoken blackout agreement by making news. This would’ve forced the CorruptMedia to cover a story they’re desperate to pretend doesn’t exist. Obama knows his Media Palace Guards are covering for him, and he knew that wouldn’t have been possible had he done anything that nudged the story.

Very nebulous at this point.

Do you want to pounce on this and possibly give the uniformed a reason to discount the stuff that is known if this turns out to be false?

If it is false, you know 0bama will use it to his advantage.

VRWC will stage an epic comeback in his speeches.

There was no crosstab when you look at the WaPo summary of the poll, so I took the +8 D overweight initially cited by Numbermuncher before he corrected it to D +4. But in a poll with D+4 with MOE of 3.5 gives you a Barry +4, down from +8 in September, and Romney is leading among Indies by 8, math challenged leftie troll here can celebrate as much as they’d like to, but that was not a poll that sat well with Axelrod.

These trolls suck. I liked the pre-0bama ones better…

OmahaConservative on October 27, 2012 at 10:09 PM

Check this out :

As I indicated early on, not only did I see Obama’s pre-September 11 actions as being executed in order to cultivate plausible deniability on his part, but I suspected even then that he might have employed rebels or jihadis to eliminate Stevens. It does bear mentioning that Obama’s cavalier dismissal of intelligence briefings leading up to Sept. 11, 2012 was widely reported prior to that date.……
Throughout this debacle, the question on the minds of news viewers and those news organizations willing to report relevant developments has been: Why? First, they asked why the administration did not provide adequate security for its foreign service personnel in one of the most dangerous places on Earth on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on America. Then, it became a question of why they didn’t do so after credible threats had been voiced by Ambassador Stevens and others. Now, it has become a question of why the administration withheld aid for the doomed men as they begged for it, with intelligence service personnel ready, willing, and able to provide it, and heavier armaments within an hour or two away.

At this juncture, the evidence has accumulated so unambiguously on the side of the Obama administration not wanting Ambassador Stevens and the other men rescued, despite being fully cognizant of their peril.
I believe that President Obama not only knew of that peril, but knew beforehand that the embassy would be attacked, because he facilitated the attack himself. After the contempt of Congress vote went against Attorney General Eric Holder in June, I believe that Obama determined that the Libya operation had become too much of a risk, and took steps to “make it go away.” A Mideast “Fast and Furious” emerging within weeks of the election would be devastating. I believe that Obama coordinated the assault through his connections with local jihadists, and that Stevens was the primary target. Obama cleared the way for the assailants via his inaction and interference, intending to cloak their mission within those of “outraged protestors” in the region. Given the evidence, what other reason could there be?

I make this inference from a wealth of knowledge of Barack Obama as a person and a politician, from years of studying him, his methods and motives, and from individuals who know the man. I have stated quite plainly that I believe he is a sociopath and malignant narcissist, an opinion that has been publicly shared by credentialed professionals in the field of psychology. It is more than likely that Obama has engaged in such action before, and on more than one occasion.

You didn’t miss much. It was a multi-hour movie that could have been distilled down to a 30 minute prime-time science fiction show (1 hour with commercials, tops). They were so focused on cinematography and choreography that the movie an plot kind of got lost in the jumble. I remember sitting through 10+ minutes of space station special effects and people bouncing around inside it in wonder while Strauss’s “Blue Danube” waltz played with nary a word of dialog. Other parts of the movie were equally as monotonous. Now, I like classical music, but this was just plain tedious.

Libyan witnesses recount organized Benghazi attack
***************************************************

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — It began around nightfall on Sept. 11 with around 150 bearded gunmen, some wearing the Afghan-style tunics favored by Islamic militants, sealing off the streets leading to the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. They set up roadblocks with pick-up trucks mounted with heavy machine guns, according to witnesses.

The trucks bore the logo of Ansar al-Shariah, a powerful local group of Islamist militants who worked with the municipal government to manage security in Benghazi, the main city in eastern Libya and birthplace of the uprising last year that ousted Moammar Gadhafi after a 42-year dictatorship.

There was no sign of a spontaneous protest against an American-made movie denigrating Islam’s Prophet Muhammad. But a lawyer passing by the scene said he saw the militants gathering around 20 youths from nearby to chant against the film. Within an hour or so, the assault began, guns blazing as the militants blasted into the compound.

Have you ever witnessed someone getting a letter that their ObamaPhone will be disabled?

Electrongod on October 27, 2012 at 10:08 PM

If Obama loses… I hear… Actually I heard someone tell me about Obama’s secret bank account that pays your mortgage, car payments. There was a whole thread at some site about it. Funny thing people actually believed it.

There’s no more serious issue in a presidential campaign than trust,” the president said. “Trust matters!” The Midwesterners cheered.

Very nebulous at this point.

Do you want to pounce on this and possibly give the uniformed a reason to discount the stuff that is known if this turns out to be false?

If it is false, you know 0bama will use it to his advantage.

VRWC will stage an epic comeback in his speeches.

Did you even read the article on Gateway Pundit that I linked to? Or the Stars & Stripes site that they linked to and quoted?

I don’t care whether you believe the articles or not.

P.S. I didn’t write the articles so back off.

Cool. Still preferred ten but at least this is better than six. Glad to know AP was indeed sincere about figuring out a solution with Ed and their tech guy. Hopefully that bodes ill for the facebook trolls.

(Also if it was more than an hour or two ago, then I must have looked right at it earlier and been too thick to register the change. Admittedly very plausible.)

When I was growing up, I read every science fiction book on our local library’s shelves. Many of them more than once. I liked much of Asimov’s work. “Against Stupidity” was one that I particularly liked. 2001, not so much

Yes, and all the back ground articles they, and others, linked.

Even the take down at Ace of Spades.

This has an aura of “to good to be true” about it.

48 hours won’t make much of a difference on impact if it comes to be.

Worth much more to let this one be investigated than running with it now.

Back off? If you want to hang on this, go ahead. It won’t only bite you, but it will help 0bama if it turns out to be false.

Are so against giving it the time it needs to be filled out?

Meat Loaf, Naked Cowboy endorse Romney’s foreign policy
October 26, 2012 – 11:25 AM
****************************

As Election Day nears, the Romney campaign is busy publicizing the newspaper endorsements that the former governor is racking up. But the Republican candidate also received support from two unlikely figures on Thursday — rock legend Meat Loaf and New York City icon the Naked Cowboy. And just like Clint Eastwood, who lectured Invisible Obama about counterterrorism and the war in Afghanistan, both cited foreign policy as a reason why they decided to endorse Mitt Romney.

During an appearance with Romney at a rally in Ohio last night, Meat Loaf,
**********

who rose to prominence during the Cold War, issued a full-throated defense of Romney’s aggressive positions on Russia, adopting storm language that fit with the song he performed, “Stand in the Storm.” (The song notes that “this world is tough as a splinter” and urges people to grow a “backbone” — lyrics that fit nicely with Romney’s pledge to show “more backbone” to Russian President Vladimir Putin.)

Here’s what Meat Loaf told the crowd, per the New York Times:

There has storm clouds come over the United States. There is thunderstorms over Europe. There are hailstorms, and I mean major hailstorms, in the Middle East. There are storms brewing through China, through Asia, through everywhere, and there’s only one man that on the other night when President Barack Obama, God bless him, said to Mitt Romney, ‘The Cold War is over.’ I have never heard such a thing in my life. The man needs to understand Putin and Russia, so I want you to know that there is one man who will stand tall in this country and fight the storm and bring the United States back to what it should be … Gov. Mitt Romney!
