Quotes of the day

posted at 9:16 pm on October 27, 2012 by Allahpundit

The White House on Saturday flatly denied that President Barack Obama withheld requests for help from the besieged American compound in Benghazi, Libya, as it came under on attack by suspected terrorists on September 11th.

“Neither the president nor anyone in the White House denied any requests for assistance in Benghazi,” National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor told Yahoo News by email…

“Would the secretary of defense make such a decision on his own? No,” [Bill] Kristol wrote. “It would have been a presidential decision.”

“He’s wrong,” said Vietor.

***

Bill Kristol suggests that it had to be a decision by Obama himself not to help the Americans under siege in Benghazi and that David Petraeus is signaling exactly that with the CIA’s emphatic denial that the decision came from his shop. If that’s true, at what point does Petraeus have to speak out? If the reports are true, I think you can make the case that Petraeus should resign in protest. But that’s based somewhat on speculation about what I think happened. I don’t know for sure. Petraeus does.

***

“President Obama today said that he gave an order to everyone while the attack was going on to do everything they could to secure the personnel,” [former Reagan assistant secretary of defense Bing] West said. “Now that’s really big because that means that those who were turning down [former Navy SEAL] Ty Woods when he was asking for the help were going against the orders of the president of the United States.”…

“A chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff doesn’t take an order from the president when he says ‘do everything’ and not put that in writing and send it out to the chain of command,” West said. “If that actually happened the way President Obama today said it happened, there’s a paper trail and I think people reasonably enough can say, ‘well can we see the order?’ because hundreds of others supposedly saw this order.”

“But if there is no order then people have to ask some very basic questions, ‘what the heck happened?’” he said.

***

1.) To whom did the president give the first of his “three very clear directives”—that is, “make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to?”…

7.) Was the president made aware of the repeated requests for assistance from the men under attack? When and by whom?…

9.) Did the president refuse to authorize an armed drone strike on the attackers?

10.) Did the president refuse to authorize a C-130 [Spectre gunship] to enter Libyan airspace during the attack?

***

[A]s of right now, outside of a very few exceptions, the CorruptMedia has coordinated with the White House to create a complete blackout around this story. Not even yesterday’s denial from the CIA that indirectly implicates the White House garnered any media attention.

In the closing days of a reelection campaign the CorruptMedia is desperate to see Obama win, it’s glaringly obvious that nothing this potentially damaging to the president will be allowed to see the light of day — at least not until after November 6.

Had Obama answered Clark’s question yesterday, he would’ve violated this unspoken blackout agreement by making news. This would’ve forced the CorruptMedia to cover a story they’re desperate to pretend doesn’t exist. Obama knows his Media Palace Guards are covering for him, and he knew that wouldn’t have been possible had he done anything that nudged the story.

Key West Reader on October 27, 2012 at 9:33 PM

Well, with all of these lies and everyone in the CYA mode, maybe one of them can answer this:

The information I heard today was that General [Carter] Ham as head of Africom received the same e-mails the White House received requesting help/support as the attack was taking place. General Ham immediately had a rapid response unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit ready.

General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.

Good news and bad news in the Richmond area. I voted in Chesterfield today, there was a steady flow of people, but nothing like the volume 4 years ago…

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/27/1151286/-VA-GOTV-and-early-voting

Dave Wasserman is one of the head number crunchers at Cook Political Report, and he has been tweeting results from Virigina’s early voting period. The numbers look good for Romney and very, very bad for Obama. Here are a several of his tweets with the raw data:

VIRGINIA EARLY VOTE: Up 18.8% in the 86 localities McCain won in ’08, but up ONLY 4.4% in the 48 Obama won: http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/sbe_csv/STATS/

Overall, early vote up 9.4% across the board in VA vs this point in ’08, but this 14% disparity very troubling #s for @BarackObama

3 of 4 top DECREASES in VA early voting vs ’08: 1) Richmond City (-16.8%) 3) Arlington County (-14.0%) 4) Charlottesville City (-10.5%)

In VA’s McCain localities, early vote = 95,744 (vs 80,881 at this pt in ’08). VA’s Obama localities = 152,084 (vs 145,673 in ’08)

Huge drop-offs in Richmond, Arlington & C’ville indicative of understandable (yet troubling for Ds) decline in Af-Am, yuppie & college vote

Tripoli, Libya, May, 1953:

Airmen from the 1807th AACS Wing at Wheelus Field monitor messages at a state-of-the-art global communications station. The high-power trunk broadcasting and teletype network, put in place about a year and a half earlier, was described in a story as “a world of tape relays, switchboards with blinking green lights, 10,000 teletype keys pounding at once, banks of vacuum tubes feeding rhombic antennae with 240 words a minute of weather data, scrambled code, aircraft movement.”

Newly released figures from Gallup show that the demographics of the American electorate (age, race, sex, etc.) have changed very little since 2008 except in one way: Party affiliation has swung dramatically toward the Republican party, and away from the Democratic party, during President Obama’s term. Gallup’s tallies on the composition of the electorate show that, among likely voters, Democrats held a 10-point advantage over Republicans in party affiliation in 2008 — 39 to 29 percent. Four year later, Gallup’s tallies show that, among likely voters, Republicans hold a 1-point advantage over Democrats in party affiliation — 36 to 35 percent. That’s an 11-point swing in just four years.

When independents who lean toward a given party are included, the changes in party affiliation are even more striking. In 2004, Gallup showed that Republicans and Democrats were tied in party affiliation when leaners were included — at 48 percent apiece. In 2008, Democrats enjoyed a 12-point edge when leaners were included — 54 to 42 percent. In 2012, Republicans enjoy a 3-point edge when leaners are included — 49 to 46 percent. That’s a 15-point swing since 2008.

Leftards, do you know what the QotD topic is?

Schadenfreude on October 27, 2012 at 9:39 PM

No they don’t, Schadenfreude. They don’t bother to READ, they simply babble about useless polls.

They don’t CARE that the administration, including this President, left our Embassador and three other men to die rather than tarnish the meme that ‘al quaeda is on its heels’ or the slogan ‘ Osama is dead, GM is alive’.

Well, there is more. This info originally was from Gateway Pundit.
Excerpt: Sure enough Obama nominated Gen. David Rodriguez to replace Gen. Carter Ham as commander of U.S. Africa Command.
The Stars and Stripes reported:

President Barack Obama will nominate Army Gen. David Rodriguez to succeed Gen. Carter Ham as commander of U.S. Africa Command and Marine Lt. Gen. John Paxton to succeed Gen. Joseph Dunford as assistant commandant of the Marine Corps, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced Thursday.

Both appointments must be confirmed by the Senate.

WaPo sample of LV IS D+4. All adults sample is D+8. Nevertheless, neither candidate is going to win a state when losing independents by that margin.

Sure, TXUS, my pleasure. HAL is HotAirLibs initials, as it were, but they are also the name of a malevolent, and ultimately gullible and stupid entity on a film called ” 2001: A Space Odyssey”.

“Sing Daisy” comes from the following portion of the film.
HAL SINGS DAISY as he’s shut down. :)

thatsafactjack on October 27, 2012 at 9:50 PM

there’s an easy answer to the Obama claims versus the other claims. Obama was dis-engaged. by the time he gave his directive to secure the personnel, the four people were already dead.

unlike that photo-op of obama in his windbreaker in the situation room…he wasn’t there. He delegated it to the pentagon…or state…or someone.
