Regardless of whether we are at war or not in the Middle East, the simple fact is that the Islamic world is much more hostile to Western/American values and influence today than it was four years ago. I am at a complete loss as to how Powell can look past this and not see what an utter failure Obama’s foreign policy has been in the region.

Yes, I’m sure his endorsement will have the effect you speak of to some extent. However, I don’t think any minds will be changed that intend to vote for Romney.

Well, first let’s deal with your unsubstantiated impugning of my character, shall we? How can we maintain a reasonable dialog if you insist on talking with a fictitious person? If you have a suspicion of my motives, just ask me the question before leveling a charge. Would I have preferred it if he had endorsed Romney? Absolutely. Would it have affected my opinion of him? Most definitely it would have. To what degree we can only speculate. As a Christian I retain a certain hope in the redemption of most men and I do not regard him as irredeemable. Not yet at least. So the possibility exists but again I was disappointed.

But the fact remains that he did not and therein lies the crux of the matter which I have already stated my position on. You may take my word for it or not. The choice is yours.

McCain and company will co-op his ideas and make out like the ideas were his.

Closet RINO John Cornyn too will now move to the right as he knows he will get primaried by someone like Atty. Gen. of Texas Gregg Abbott and get his ass unelected too.

It really is. The subliminal message is what will be picked up by the low-info voters and those with a racial agenda. Not that him endorsing Romney would have sent an alternative message. It isn’t by individual actions but by the entire corpus of a man that he is known.

It’s hard to understand anyone that has paid any attention to what these almost 4 years have done to our Freedoms and this Country can even think of voting for Obama. For someone like Powell to do so just causes me to question his intelligence. Clearly his endorsement was not based on facts or reality. That it was done was clearly political but reduces him as a person in my opinion.

Again, I do not charge that he is lying but that he is mistaken, and because of factors which I believe are influencing his decision is a disappointment to me for a number of reasons which are more philosophical than political.

but you are saying that his decision is “because of factors which I believe are influencing” him. There’s just nothing to support what you imply. Again, you can guess at all sorts of things – that alien’s are making him do this, or (as Ed did) that he bitter and angry at ‘Republican leadership’. But it’s fantasy and is not supported by any reading of what the man has said or how he has lived his life.
His endorsement is one that any candidate would seek and be more than pleased to have.

And fair play to that. But don’t spin it as some sort of sound reasoning with which to form a judgment about the character of someone.
I (sincerely) would not think less of him if he endorsed Romney.
