Jim Moran’s son resigns from campaign after release of new James O’Keefe vid on voter fraud

posted at 8:01 pm on October 24, 2012 by Allahpundit

I wonder how many Democratic operatives or midlevel media execs have declined shady propositions made in earnest over the last few years because they suspected they were being set up by an O’Keefe sting.

Given his notoriety by now, it’s kind of amazing that he keeps finding willing participants:

Project Veritas has released a new investigation that exposes Representative Jim Moran’s Field Director, Patrick Moran, conspiring to commit election fraud.

When approached by an undercover investigator for advice on how to steal the votes of more than 100 people, Moran advised falsifying documents to satisfy Virginia’s new voter ID law. He said, “Bank statement obviously would be tough, but they can fake a utility bill with ease.”

Moran went on to clarify that, “You’d have to forge it.”…

The latest footage was gathered at the Organizing for America offices in Arlington, Virginia where Patrick Moran coordinates with OFA on his father’s campaign, efforts to re-elect President Obama, and the campaign to elect Time Kaine to the U.S. Senate.

The inevitable postscript:

Moran’s campaign issued a statement confirming the congressman’s son had stepped down.

“Patrick is well liked and was a well-respected member of the campaign team. This incident, however, was clearly an error in judgment. The campaign has accepted Patrick’s resignation, effective immediately,” the statement said.

The resignation comes just a day after Rep. Moran and two other Virginia Democrats — Reps. Gerry Connolly and Bobby Scott — had urged the Justice Department to launch an investigation into Strategic Allied Consulting, a GOP firm linked to separate allegations of voter registration fraud in Virginia and Florida.

I’m not sure why Moran’s worried about Republican voter fraud. He already has a theory of the case for why Obama might lose an election. Rest assured that you’ll be hearing more from him about it if Romney pulls this thing out next month.

Hey, we could have five black presidents elected back-to-back, and the Dems wuld still shriek “racism” for every Republican elected (even if they were black).

This is the same Moran campaign who in 2006, was rumored to have been renting busses and going around to the low income neighborhoods in S. Arlington, picking up undocumented hispanics, and then bringing them in the back door of polling stations, then right back out and back onto the bus. Hence we got Jim “Wife Beater” Webb as our Senator.

Also..replace “resigns” with “indicted” and we’re golden.

This is why the left threatened to sue if billboards saying “Vote Fraud is a felony” were not taken down. And they got them taken down.

Imagine that voting illegally is illegal?? Next you’ll tell me illegal aliens are in the country “illegally.”

Raquel Pinkbullet on October 24, 2012 at 9:50 PM

I’m actually surprised they bothered with his resignation. My guess is that he is still part of the campaign and will still receive a paycheck, just in another capacity.

Cindy Munford on October 24, 2012 at 8:41 PM

And he can just wait an election cycle or two and/or wait till his old man retires and runs for Congress himself. As someone else here said, it’s a resume enhancer.

We seriously do need to keep up the pressure for a national Voter ID. Biometric scans, fingerprinting, as Thatsafactjack has said, would be good as well.

PatriotGal2257 on October 24, 2012 at 9:58 PM

… and the voter suppression letter going to voters in Florida, and…

… and who are the tools that keep saying voter fraud is no big deal?

… and who are the tools that say voter ID laws won’t help (as Mr. Moran. willfully engaged in planning voter fraud, openly admits it will make fraud harder)?

Midas on October 24, 2012 at 9:58 PM

The issue here isn’t so much whether criminal charges can be brought against Jr. in this instance, but rather can public perceptions of the potential for voter fraud be changed. To the degree that these videos can be seen by the general public, O’Keefe is making a tremendous contribution. O’Keefe is using Alynsky tactics against the left which is deliciously ironic.

Grrr.
O’Keefe does great work but this alone won’t lead to much. As a resident in Moran’s district, he’d be convicted of 1st degree murder and he’d be re-elected here.

OK, maybe I exaggerate, but that’s not too far from the truth.

22044 on October 24, 2012 at 9:03 PM

That is no exaggeration. He would be re-elected, then if forced to resign the next Dem in line would take the seat with 80% of the vote. A similar situation just occurred here in the People’s Republic of Alexandria with our state delegate who resigned over one or more extramarital affairs. The next Dem was a shoo-in.

From beating up 8 year old black kids to multiple and repeated anti-semetic remarks, never fear citizens of America, the idiotic loons which populate the Socialist County of Arlington will send Jim Moron back to the U.S. Congress.

RandallinHerndon on October 24, 2012 at 9:03 PM

Don’t forget the sweetheart mortgage deal from MBNA, consolidating all of his personal debt with a preferred rate. This at the same time that MBNA was lobbying Moran’s committee for a bill that would make it harder for creditors to use bankruptcy to clear credit card balances. Coincidence, of course.

Jaibones on October 24, 2012 at 11:27 PM

People, this is how the 1,000,000 expected illegal aliens from the Reagan amnesty mor.phed into 3,000,000 illegal aliens when it was all said and done. I lived in Los Angeles at the time and forging utility bills, W2 statements, etc. was quite the cottage industry during that time. It became a running joke among anglo citizens that we just needed to go down to the area where these forgers were working and procure a new identity if someone had bad credit.

We face that danger with any dream act or amnesty when and if that day comes.

In a race where every vote counts this reptile needs to be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law. I’ve e-mailed the AG and took particular pleasure contacting Moran (my Congressman) to attack his hypocrisy of fighting actively against voter ID laws the whole time his campaign was engaged in rigging the vote. I suspect that many people did the same thing which is why they rushed Patrick Moran out of the picture with a “resignation letter” that reads I didn’t do anything wrong but I’m out of here.

Let’s not forget that Brian Moran is the Chairman of the VA Democratic Party. Which makes the “alleged” crimes of his nephew all the more reprehensible. And while you are a bit too cynical that the fraud is so blatant you vote will automatically go to Obama, you are right that those of us in the 8th who have not sworn allegiance to the VA Dems have been effectively silenced by the liberals of Arlington, the illegals in parts of Alexandria, and the aging hippies in Reston.

Still- get out there and vote for Col. Murray.

Catholic Dems are squealing here in ND about a Catholic Bishop’s letter to be read at every mass here in the state.

Heidi Heitkamp’s brother Joel has a radio show out of Fargo & he devoted quite a lot of air time to this yesterday saying how he’s so sick of priests & leadership downing on the Dem party.
You can see the letter here.
It’s 25 pages long. But Bishop Kagan details why Catholics must not support candidates who support gay marriage & abortion etc.
The Dems here are threatening a lawsuit.
So far the Bishop isn’t backing down.

If the Catholic Church had the courage of their convictions, abortion would not be legal now. They need an anatomy course.

It is so easy to tell a reluctant woman to carry a child to term but so hard to stand up to politicians and doctors who are legalizing “murder”.

The irony is that you can do stem cell research on dismembered youngsters but would have a rough time getting the material from spineless politicians.

Like father, like son comes to mind. But Democrat election fraud? Old news.

I have lived long enough to remember what an open secret it was that the Democratic Chicago machine stole every election in Illinois. On election evening, the Daley machine there would determine the results from the counties voting downstate so they would know how many more voters their people had to raise (if not from Winos on the street, then from tombstones).

The more conservative farmers in southern part of the state eventually learned to delay reporting their final vote tabulation until the very last minute so that the Cook county precinct workers would have to make a guess as to how many ballots they had to ‘stuff’.

I look at individual Catholics, like Joel & Heidi Heitkamp, & I wonder why they can support someone like Obama who clearly is enthusiastic about killing the unborn, via his stance on partial birth abortions.
This is like supporting Hitler killing the Jews bcs the rest of what he stands for in their opinion is OK.
I mean, these Dems were saying how it’s the person’s choice to support certain candidates & as Christians we’ve no right to insist they stand up for what’s right bcs we must love the sinner blah blah blah.
This is ridiculous & it’s why I cannot understand how Dems like Pelosi & Reid who are supposedly religious, but yet stand up for the right of people to kill other people based on their developmental stage in life.

A criminal investigation regarding a video sting that caught the field director for Democratic Rep. Jim Moran’s campaign in an apparent conspiracy to commit election fraud has been initiated by the Arlington County Police Department in Virginia.

It looks like David Kernell, who hacked Sarah Palin’s email, is going to have a cellmate. The sons of Democrat congressmen seem to have a problem with obeying the law.
