Obama looked very knowledgable when he talked about ships with planes landing on them and ships going under water and whatnot.

Here’s the gaffe no one is talking about. Ships don’t go underwater, boats (i.e., submarines) do; at least on purpose. I guess the Titanic could be used by Barry to demonstrate that technically he was correct.

This tells me that the issue has been poll-tested, and both candidates have found it’s best avoided.

If they took offense to this kind of rhetoric, they wouldn’t be undecided now.

Assuming they read HotAir or heard it on Fox…basically this stuff is buried by the MSM which is why their is such wide support for Obama, and such a large group of undecided.

They know Obama doesn’t make sense, they just don’t know the facts…

Remember, even after months on Fox, and here, Brian Williams had no knowledge of Fast & Furious…

Now he wants us to give him another four years, for what? More speeches? More golf? More vacations? More Debt? More Deficits? More hardship? More finger-pointing? More partisanship? More fundraising? More bowing? More leading from behind? More unions? More taxes?

I was more amused at the way Obama wanted Romney to take one of the openings to go from broad vision down the path of re-arguing the Benghazi massacre. Rat-ears got more and more frustrated and angry when Mitt didn’t take the bait. ;0

Which could be the reason why Romney chose to the 313 ships as the ground to stand on in making his point and didn’t seem bothered at all by Obama’s rebuttal. Romney wanted Obama to hand him Virginia and Obama did so with verve.

I wonder if Romney was thinking, “This is working marvelously!” as Obama was talking.

None of the underlying basis for this argument of ’313 ships’ vs ‘horses and bayonets’ looks good for Obama’s position and if considered, is actually much worse.

Beyond the stupidity of the comment, let’s remember something else. Virginia is a swing state. You know what else Virginia has? The largest Naval Base and the Pentagon. I’m pretty sure that more than a few Virginians have an opinion about Obama’s idea of national defense. Nice job rat ears!

2. Obama said we no longer need lots of ships in our navy for our security. Then a short time later argued that shipping lanes are important to international trade. Obama clearly doesn’t understand that shipping lanes are maintained by a blue water navy.

So not only is he stupid, his rhetoric is fallacious.

This. And what stuck out even more for me was the issue underlying but not brought out by this “313 ships” vs “horses and bayonets” back and forth.

Sure, militaries evolve and change with tech and policy. Since 1916-17 is the reference point du jour, as that was a big point of evolve and change with the most recent big factor being the end of the Cold War, defining what is needed for to achieve policy objectives is a clear, sober and deliberative activity. This is what Romney was referring to by way of using 313 ships to get the point across.

Obama response was essentially to defend the low 200′s ships based argument rather simplistic, layman, inaccurate tech change position and sequestration.

I’ll grant that “fiscal cliff” is a critical policy issue that might warrant military policy re-evaluation, but it’s not one that is, a priori, a no-brainer one that suggests a 33% cut in our Navy, to say it simply.

And I hardly think that a frenzied effort to address the “fiscal cliff” by Congress and the Administration, prompted by prompted three years of trillion dollar deficits and a lowing of our credit rating, and which resulted in dart board like dollar figure cuts in the military that Sequestration is, suffices as a clear, sober and deliberate re-evaluation of our military policy.

In fact, positing that Sequestration is a sufficient substitute for military policy re-evaluation is the kind of decision-making that results in Benghazi-like consequences.

The Cairo embassy with the blessing of Foggy Bottom apologized IN ADVANCE of any protests.

EVERYONE in this nation should have to listen to this before they vote.

Rubin is right, but I still think the point is mainly irrelevant to undecided voters. If they took offense to this kind of rhetoric, they wouldn’t be undecided now.

The minute long “Clear Path” ad is ok but could be cut down to 30 seconds. The “I ask for your vote” bit doesn’t add anything, if anything it seems a little off.

You couldn’t be more wrong about this. Asking for your vote is EVERYTHING. It’s rule number one for a politician in a campaign: if you want someone to vote for you, you gotta ask for their damn vote. We aren’t undecided voters so it’s a lot harder for us to see the effect this has, but for undecideds, weak Obama supporter, weak Romney supporters, or people on the fence, there is actually a subliminal power to hearing a guy simply say “I’m asking for your vote.” It’s humble. It shows a lack of arrogance. I knew exactly what Mitt was doing when he made that pitch last night, and it was brilliant. As you can see, it’s an ad now.

I think Barry was surprised that Mitt didn’t tear him to shreds over Benghazi–somebody like Newt would have humiliated him on national television. It seems apparent that Romney knows he’s got the election pretty much in the bag and just came to the debate to show dignitas and gravitas and reel off the economic talking points that will win him the swing states (he is a squishy wet RINO, after all). I hope he will turn foreign affairs over to Bolton and be guided by wise counsel, as it’s fairly obvious he has very little knowledge & experience in the area.

As of now, however, the main thing is to avert outright disaster to our foreign relations by kicking that pathetic homunculus out of the Oval Office.

Once through security I spied David Corn, Howard Feinstein, Major Garret and Candy Crowley. This looks like a frigging press charter plane for the Obama campaign. The average American really cannot appreciate the level of incest that is the so-called mainstream media. They are their own echo chamber. The vast majority are the geeks who were tortured in high school. That’s why they hate Mitt Romney so. He reminds them of the popular, successful kids they were not.

When it’s ALL over ( I mean REALLY over) and the final curtain is pulled down, we’re gonna be amazed at how many earth shaking historical events were caused by such petty things as these.
