New Obama ad to women: Mitt Romney has trouble relating to you, you know

posted at 3:21 pm on October 19, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Will the insults never cease?

And no, I’m not talking about Mitt Romney’s supposed slight to the ladies when he admitted to having consulted “binders full of women” when searching for job candidates (oh, the horror of searching through a bigger pool of applicants!). I’m talking about Team Obama relentlessly slapping me in the face with what, as a woman, are ostensibly supposed be my priorities. Behold, fellow females: This is how the Democrats would like you to think of yourselves.

“Seriously? Binders full of women?”, the ad concludes. “Mitt Romney just doesn’t get it.” Well, somebody certainly isn’t getting it, but it’s not Mitt Romney. Maybe this type of ad is appealing to the young, urbanite, self-fancied but largely uninformed activist types; but I don’t think the Lilly Ledbetter Act, mandating employers to provide birth-control coverage, or the government-sponsorship of Planned Parenthood rank too highly on the women of mainstream America’s list of concerns. I realize it’s useful for the Democrats to get us to self-identify like a flock of sheep, but none of Obama’s ostensible victories for the ladies are going to do anybody any good if our country is bankrupt, our economic growth keeps sliding, welfare programs go unreformed, and employment opportunities stay so thin on the ground.

Like Philip Klein writes, the fact that Team O is actually seizing and spending money on this pathetic argument just reeks of desperation.

In the past two days, liberals have seized on the remarks and Obama has made the comment a part of his stump speech. “I don’t know if you were listening last night, but, see, we don’t have to order up some binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women to learn and teach and thrive and start businesses,” he said in Athens, Ohio on Wednesday. In Manchester, New Hampshire earlier today he said, “See, we don’t have to order up some binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women who can learn and excel in these fields right now.”

The fact that Obama is making an issue of this suggests to me that his campaign is increasingly worried about signs that Romney is closing the gender gap, which would mean lights out for his reelection given Romney’s advantages among male voters.

Butthead: Uhh, huh, huh, we can like, use this against him
Beavis: Yeah, yeah, yeah, heh, heh, are they biker chicks? Yeah, yeah?
Butthead: If we just, like, keep saying, uh, “binders”, and like, uhh, huh, huh, “Big Bird”, we will kick Romeny’s a$$.

“Mitt Romney just doesn’t get it.”

Honestly, I don’t get it either.

When I heard it at the debate it was clearly a completely benign comment. I didn’t even notice the awkward phrasing. This is the second really bizarre attack from the left in the last few weeks, the first being the big bird “gaffe”. There have been other times – many other times – when I’ve seen liberals make bizarre accusations, but it used to be that normal people could at least comprehend the argument, notwithstanding how ridiculous it often was. This made it easy to mock them. Lately, though, it’s been more like “huh?”

Maybe they’ve actually stumbled upon a fairly clever rhetorical strategy – make an argument so nonsensical that the opposition can’t rebut it because they can’t figure out what they’re supposed to be rebutting.

Rove stated it…every presidential candidate has won election when leading in October over 50%…Mitt is at 51%-53%.

100% of all candidates with those polling numbers have won election, in the history of the U.S.

Every single one…so Obama has to become the first ever to overcome that statistic…and he ain’t even close.

And next week…foreign affairs…Obama has one thing, he thinks Mitt made an error on the Olympics criticism…and of course the logical answer is: ”
You don’t go over their and pander to them, you tell them what you think, pandering gets us to where we are now…”

Listen, even the woman who runs the non-profit who put together the resumes stated explicitly, they were placed in a binder, when quizzed by the journalist, she re-stated, yes they were actual binders, that’s what we called them at the non-profit that helps women find jobs.
This was no “conservative” group, this was a group that Romney and the dems sought out…they put together the binders that Romney talked about. He increased women to 42$, from 24% when he took office…

Maybe this type of ad is appealing to the young, urbanite, self-fancied but largely uninformed activist types;

It is these type of activists that are most vocal,

they think themselves drive the narrative, and hence influence the nation to make it a better place for everybody else.

Besides those young activists type, you have those lib women (shown in the ad) growing older but never wiser. The Churchill phrase don’t apply to them.

Liam on October 19, 2012 at 3:49 PM

Obama: “I’ve got two daughters, and I want to make sure that they have the same opportunities that anybody’s sons had.” Yeah, right.

LOL! Sorry girls, no privilege, nepotism, and sinecures for you. You have to compete and earn your way, just like most of the boys.

I’m sure incoming President Romney does not “get” Sandra Fluke and the dancing vaginas. Thank God he doesn’t!

Ten years from now it’s going to be harder to find someone who claims to have voted for Obama a second time than it will be to find someone who claims to have voted for Carter a second time.

here in Wis we haven’t seen that new assault yet but are being blitzed with a “47%” ad from team O (that secret tape from a fund raiser where the point was from a campaign strategy there was no point in trying to win them over). Team O uses that to say that will be the position if Romney is elected. Sad to say but unless Romney calls that ad out, we will probably stay blue.

teejk on October 19, 2012 at 3:53 PM

Romney: 50% of his Mass. Cabinet were women…

Obama: lip service, Julia, Sandra Fluke, and the “war on women”…

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS…

Khun Joe on October 19, 2012 at 3:54 PM

This is as pertinent now as it was in 2010.

The end of it deals with women.

So we are back to the failed war on women again, two weeks before the election. This just tells me the Obama team has given up. Can he just resign?

Binders, binders. Everywhere binders. I never realized how insulted I should be whenever I see one. Barry’s war on binders will set us all free to work in his admin for 18% less than his males staffers. I’d rather have my resume in Romney’s binder any day.

Slainte on October 19, 2012 at 3:57 PM

The Big Bird ad was second. But something about the chirpy little voice of the voice-over made it not even close.

Typhoon on October 19, 2012 at 3:58 PM

Binder full of women. Mitt Romney just doesn’t get it!

If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things.

Funny you should quote Obama referring to John McCain. Context is hard.

Constantine on October 19, 2012 at 3:30 PM

Ooh snap!!

You sure told him. That silly right-wing troglodyte probably thought Obama was deliberately talking about himself.

Watch, I be those rethuglicans will now try to pretend they were taking note of the irony and hypocrisy of Obama’s statement. They just can’t stand it when someone like you bests them with your rapier wit.

RINO in Name Only on October 19, 2012 at 3:59 PM

If it hasn’t been done already, I half expect the next “proof” of Romney’s “War on Women ZOMG” to be that he and Ann didn’t have any daughters.

Left Coast Right Mind on October 19, 2012 at 3:59 PM

So, our crafty little Demagogue-in-Chief (DIC) is now tacking the word “young” into his lame argument? Why – to make Romney look like some sort of perv?

Is the DIC also saying that he only looks for “young” women? Smacks of age descrimination to me.

CliffHanger on October 19, 2012 at 4:00 PM

Funny you should quote Obama referring to John McCain. Context is hard.

Constantine on October 19, 2012 at 3:30 PM

The context was correct, John MaCain did run on small issues in a big campaign and he lost, as he should have. Now it is Big Ears time to pay the same price for the same crime. MaCain had nothing really run on and Big Ears has less. Kinda funny that Big Ears is falling into his own, self made election abyss.

cmsinaz on October 19, 2012 at 3:44 PM

You’re right. Instead of an adult discussion about serious situations, he’s on Comedy Central and going on and on about an imaginary war on women.

Obama is the one who doesn’t respect women.

“Binders” comment was not optimal.
“Not optimal” comment was horrific.
I think people (men AND women) get it.

Really? Where?

UltimateBob on October 19, 2012 at 4:02 PM

“See, we don’t have to order up some binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women who can learn and excel in these fields right now.”

Romney’s team should get a dozen of the women from the Mass. Women’s Project, the women who put together the “binders”, to make an ad saying how much Mitt helped women. While questioning why Obama hasn’t.

RINO in Name Only on October 19, 2012 at 4:03 PM

Folks, Obama is just doing this to juice his base. He can’t reverse the tide of Mitt’s surge, so he needs to ensure that his loyalists turn out in large numbers on 11/6. And, if Obama has to spend time and resources amping up the demographic he should have in his back pocket by now, he’s in deep trouble. The election season, for an incumbent, should be spent focusing on the 10% that swing elections, not the solid 45% he had four years to cement.

joejm65 on October 19, 2012 at 4:04 PM

Hahahaha! Get back to us on “context” when you’ve taken some time to learn something about it and the reason UltimateBob used that quote.

Well it seems dear joe is at it again with the laughs! This time a woman is telling her story about breast cancer! This is a ‘war on women’ and not one bit funny, IMO! Mitt was right last night on his comment about joe, he will laugh at anything(not direct quote)!
