Tonight’s MSNBC pre-debate talking point: If Romney wins and ObamaCare is repealed, many more people will die

posted at 7:48 pm on October 16, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via the Examiner, a Grayson-ian appeal to the electorate as the left stares over the cliff at defeat. In fairness to Jonathan Alter, he’s been making this argument for months, since the days of late summer when O had a small but consistent lead. He was, in other words, panicking before panicking was cool; I only wish he’d establish some metrics on how to calculate total deaths under each candidate so that we can really compare. For instance, having blown all of his interventionist political capital on Libya, O’s mostly sat on his hands this past year while thousands of people have died in Syria. Do they count towards the Official Candidate Death Tolls? Do the civilians mistakenly killed in drone strikes count? Or are we only talking about Americans, like Chris Stevens?

If we’re only talking about Americans, then take two minutes to read the precis from a Lancet study published last year about the health effects of the economic meltdown in Greece. Higher HIV rates and suicide rates, smaller hospital budgets, and fewer people seeking treatment, partly due to longer wait times. Fiscal disintegration has a huge effect on public health, needless to say, and disintegration is where we’re headed if President Downgrade gets reelected and can’t shake free from his base to strike a deal on meaningful entitlement reform. You won’t hear that in Alter’s shpiel, though. What you will hear, tacked onto the end almost as an afterthought, is him fretting that the public will be throwing away a historic presidency if Romney wins again tonight and voters start to break decisively away from O. Matthews was pushing the same point a few hours earlier. Expect that as the next stage of lefty desperation messaging if The One craps the bed again this evening.

I thought when we elected a black president, we were going to get a black president. You know, this [BP oil spill] is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs, you know, where he lifts up his shirt where you can see the gun in his pants. That’s — (in black man voice) ‘we’ve got a motherfu**ing problem here?’ Shoot somebody in the foot.

OT From Drudge:

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Some of the reporters covering tonight’s presidential debate at Hofstra University in Long Island may be F.W.I.–filing while intoxicated. Anheuser-Busch is apparently a sponsor of tonight’s rhetorical battle and the beer company has set up a “hospitality tent” outside the media filing center where reporters are being treated to free food, brews and souvenir glasses.

The beers being served at the debate are apparently Anheuser-Busch’s “small batch” brews. Bartenders inside the tent confirmed they were indeed quite “busy” this evening.

Anheuser-Busch, which has apparently been the “official beer” of the the presidential debates since 1996, set up similar tents at the vice presidential debate last week and the first presidential debate earlier this month. The company also set up a Twitter feed for their hospitality tent, where most of the messages make sure to note that the free beers are “4 21+ only.”

As for Biden’s performance last week, at least we finally know where he did his last minute debate prep. And nothing like objective, in-the-tank MSM reporters being..well..in the tank.

And, you have to believe that the past isn’t prologue. You have to believe that the failed policies of the last 4 years are suddenly going to succeed in the next four. You have to believe that QInfinity (QE-3) will work when QE-I and QE-II didn’t…and, if you really want to know how unsuccessful QE is without having to fly to Zimbabwe or crack a book on the Weimar Republican, take a look at Japan. It just launched QE-Round 8…as it heads into ITS THIRD STRAIGHT LOST DECADE.

TXUS on October 16, 2012 at 8:49 PM

Seriously, a physicist recently said, in an interview, that there’s no reason we can’t live…forever. Really.

He said that the only reason we die is cell error. As we age, the coding in our cells is subject to error, the cell malfunctions rather than behaving properly like a young, healthy, cell. He says in the next 100 years, he fully anticipates that this problem will be solved and we will be able to effectively eliminate cell error and cell death.

Through various forms of gene therapy, disease and death, with the exception of accidents, will be eliminated, and we will have rejuvenation. Of course, we will have to limit birth OR we have to get out into space. The other good news is that other physicists have determined that a ‘Star Trek’ like ‘hyper drive’ is possible, which would allow us to travel in space, effectively and efficiently, in a timely manner.

Of course, if we effectively end medical and drug related research and development by plowing all of our money into Obamacare and servicing an ever rising debt, this will never happen. If we turn NASA into a terrestrial outreach program, this will never happen. If we implement crippling green energy and environmental regulations, the ore for the new metal alloys that can withstand the stresses of extended space flight for the craft will never be mined, the metal will never be produced or tested, the hyper drive will never be built, and there would be nothing available to power it, even if we did build it.

You have to believe in a deficit solution with a 20% across the board tax cuts, someone balanced by killing deductions. Good luck with that.

bayam on October 16, 2012 at 8:30 PM

Yet somehow you believe Obama’s foolish notion that medical health care was too expensive, so he’s going to give it away free to 30 million people and that will drive the price down.

Much like Obama’s green energy government giveaways, he has no competence or understanding, he fails at every turn and just hands us the bills for his $Billion and $Trillion dollar failures.

As a “community organizer” success for Obama was getting the federal government to give him and his “community” federal dollars. Obama has never ventured beyond that, for Obama, confiscating and giving other people’s money to his cronies and his “community” is winning and he feels put upon if anything else is asked of him.

And yes Romney’s plan will work. Ronald Reagan proved that cutting taxes and unleashing the American people creates vast amounts of money. After Reagan’s tax cuts tax revenues to the government doubled. Sadly the Congress in firm Democrat control tripled spending.

Well, there’s a prediction based on nothing but hope. We’ll see. I doubt this prediction come true. I can’t imagine on what basis you believe the momentum is going to change – it certainly won’t from the debate considering that a vast majority thinks Romney won on the issues, even if they somehow give a slight plurality to Obama on winning the debate. That hardly serves as a basis for predicting a momentum shift. That’s like arguing that the momentum shifted in a football game b/c the team that’s winning just scored and thus has to give the ball back to the other team.
