Even if the Democratic inner circles have already written Obama off as a loss, they are seriously interested in mitigating the damage done this election to the Democratic Party as a whole.

The brand itself is in jeopardy. The record of failure after failure of the last four years, including the rank arrogance and hubris, openly attacking the American people when they dared disagree with the ideology or the agenda, has been a disaster of monumental proportions.

Should Romney/Ryan win in a massive landslide, combined with the trouncing the Democrats took in the 2010 midterms, the Democrat brand stands to be seriously damaged, potentially well beyond 2016.

However, if the Romney/Ryan win can be contained, kept within a narrower margin, the case might be made that it was Obama’s failure and that of his immediate administration and those ‘czars’, rather than the entire party, and the party ideology. The inner circle are hoping to be able to, at least, salvage a viable chance at 2016.

My sense is that the party is desperate to garner every single vote that it can, even if they lose, for this very reason. The Clinton’s are ‘foundation stock’ for the Democrats. They’ve been around for decades. Bill was their last popular President. Their presence on the trail at his point is NOT meant to excite the Independents. It is meant to salvage and motivate as much of the base as they can to keep that margin of defeat as narrow as possible.
