Video: Axelrod won’t specify if Obama held national-security meeting after Benghazi attack

posted at 9:21 am on October 15, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Via Power Line and NRO’s Eliana Johnson and our own QOTD, Fox News’ Chris Wallace asks the question everyone except the media has been asking since the terrorist attack on our Benghazi consulate and the assassination of our Ambassador by al-Qaeda and/or its affiliates in eastern Libya.  Wallace doesn’t get to ask Barack Obama whether or not he bothered to hold a national-security meeting in the aftermath of the attack to determine whether the story the White House used for the next week was on the level — our President is much too busy weighing in on celebrity feuds to answer questions like these.  Instead, it fell to President David Axelrod, who provides exactly the same level of leadership that his boss is demonstrating these days:

Q. How soon after the attack did the President meet with the National Security Council, with people from state, with people from the…, the Director of National Intelligence, with all of the various people to try to sort out what happened in Benghazi?

A. Look. We are sorting out what happened there. Understand that the President the day after the attack called it an act of terror and charged everyone with responsibility for getting to the bottom of what happened.

That wasn’t the question, though.  The question wasn’t whether Obama gave an order; it’s whether he bothered to make time to find out what happened.  Wallace tries again:

Q. Yes, the president made a statement and then he went to a fundraiser in Nevada. Question: Before he went to the fundraiser in Nevada, did he meet with his National Security Council to try to sort out the shifting stories. Because State says they never said it was a spontaneous demonstration; Intel, you are quite right, did. Did he meet with the National Security Council before he went campaigning in Nevada?

A. Chris, I assure you that the president was in contact with all those who had information and responsibility in the national security chain about this incident.

It still doesn’t answer the question — at least not directly.  However, if the answer was “yes,” I’m pretty sure Axelrod wouldn’t have been tap-dancing around the question, which leads to the obvious conclusion that the President didn’t bother to hold a meeting to find out what happened, after the first successful terrorist attack on an American diplomatic mission in 14 years.

Just for you, ted c, here’s what I posted on another thread:

Morsi demanded the blind sheik. The only way the jugeared jackass could release him would be as part of a hostage swap.

So he “ignored” the warnings and the test attacks on the consulate. He planned for Stevens to be captured so he could negotiate a swap.

He also knew that moozies have a thing about sodomizing their vanquished enemies so he figured that wouldn’t really bother Stevens, a known homosexual.

He didn’t count on Stevens dying from smoke inhalation. That is what screwed up the plan to hijack the election.

Stevens can rest now. His death, sadly, will allow America to see just how dangerous this “man” is. It’s over. America thanks you for your sacrifice, Ambassador Stevens.

“Gutsy Call” on UBL not made by Obama.

http://www.standupamericaus.org/world-events/exclusive-gutsy-call-on-ubl-not-made-by-obama/

The Stand Up America US Research and Analysis team has learned from a senior and sensitive intelligence community source and official that President Obama did not know of the raid in Abbottabad to kill Osama Bin Laden on May 1st, 2011 until after the helicopters with SEAL TEAM 6 had crossed into Pakistani airspace.

Director of Central Intelligence (DCI), Leon Panetta was the key player who organized, trained, and supported this daring raid.

He signed the “Execute Orders” with only a few people aware: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Secretary of Defense William Gates, Admiral Michael Mullen and General David Petraeus.

The White House was closed out of the decision because the President, through Valarie Jarrett, had turned down two or three other earlier proposals.

So what? Jan Stevens doesn’t own this issue because his son died in it.

What’s “abhorrent” is that you think Jan Stevens’ opinion matters in the political questioning of Obama’s fitness to be President. We’ve got thousands of other Americans to protect overseas, not to mention the reputation of the US government in doing so, and his actions before, and after, Benghazi is an election issue.

Considering the BS Obama has fed the public on Benghazi, that Stevens seems to be satisfied and trusting with his personal briefings on what happened just makes him look senile.

If he loses this election, he’s gonna run in 2016 (counting on disappointment in Romney and rehabilitation of his record/lefty revisionist history) and he AIN’T gonna be primaried by Hilary.

The Honey Badger on October 15, 2012 at 10:47 AM

When Obama loses on Nov 6, his will be the first of many a sigh of relief across the nation. Nobody watching his behavior believes he truly wants 4 more years right now. He’ll go off on the 6 figure speaking tour, play golf, raise funds for his library and enjoy the life of celebrity without responsibility. He will play the albatross around the Democratic party’s neck every 4 years as people talk about the possibility of him running, but he’ll demure and simply chip in his 2 cents to show how smart he is. He’ll never fill the role that Bill Clinton enjoys as a former (2 term) president, but will be relegated to the Jimmy Carter seat of irrelevancy and failure.

CitizenEgg on October 15, 2012 at 11:28 AM

Obama did hold a national security meeting. He held it on The View, and for good measure on the Letterman show with follow up at campaign rallies. He cares.
President Axelrod has to maintain priorities you see.

“The security matters are being adequately investigated,” Stevens said. “We don’t pretend to be experts in security. It has to be objectively examined. That’s where it belongs. It does not belong in the campaign arena.” Stevens said he has been getting briefings from the State Department on the progress of the investigation.

Though that may actually be your concern, it just isn’t one that’s driving any of this at all.
There’s no much FP difference between Obama and Romney. Romney’s recent speech essentially stated as much.
This is about winning an election…for other motives entirely.
I accept it’s how the game gets played.
And I see nothing wrong with Axelrod et al calling Romney out for it.

Very good. This is what is not being discussed, the objectives of the attack. It’s pretty standard in this part of the world to use truck bombs to take out embassies (and consulates, for you a/r types). There’s a huge surplus of military-grade explosives all over Lybia, and probably Egypt as well. Why the much more complex attack? Because they wanted hostages to trade for someone.

I hope somewhere in that Godforsaken State Department this is understood, and embassy security tactics appropriately adjusted.

Axelrod is one very creepy man; he makes my skin crawl! We all know he couldn’t answer the question because Obama didn’t meet with anyone; he is too busy campaigning and flew off to Vegas. Even at the United Nations Obama gave his lying speech and didn’t bother to meet with any heads of state. Obama had to go be on Letterman.

slickwillie2001 on October 15, 2012 at 1:27 PM

I took the liberty of reposting both of these comments because they are right on the money. The draw down in security for the Libyan Ambassador and his staff was obviously intentional as it would mitigate any casualties to the attacking forces. Notice the Cairo Embassy security team was ordered to use only rubber bullets when our Embassy was overrun. These two events (as well as the demonstrations at our other Embassies in the region) were timed to seem like a simultaneous outpouring of anger at the obscure anti-Islamic film which no one had seen.

Incidentally, the film which was no one had seen was produced and directed in the summer of 2011 by the Egyptian Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, who was supposedly serving a 24 month stint in Federal prison for bank fraud. The 24 month sentence was handed down by Judge Christina Snyder on June 24, 2010 in the United States District Court, Central District of California.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/105853512/June-24-2010-U-S-A-vs-Nakoula-Basseley-Nakoula-sentencing

If Nakoula, the Egyptian, was in Federal custody, how did he have the wherewithal to produce and direct this obscure movie which would conveniently be used by the Obama Administration as the rationale for simultaneous attacks and uprisings against our Embassies on 9/11?

Since the Blind Sheik, Omar Abdel-Rahman, whom the Egyptian government is demanding we extradite, is also Egyptian, perhaps the whole goal was to send the Blind Sheik back to Egypt where he would take his place as the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, even as the Ayatollah Khomeini returned from exile to Iran in 1979 after their Islamic Revolution, whose return to Iran was also aided and abetted by the Carter Administration.

Innocence of Islam “the Movie”

Reading again about this and maybe I miss the complete point —> BUT<—:

1<– It seems that NO ONE in the Middle East or for that matter in the ENTIRE WORLD has ever seen “THE” Movie. There is substantial believe that it may in fact not now, or ever existed.
Reported in Al Jarzeera never reported in any Western Media.

2<–It seems that only short clips with the audio removed, heavily over dubbed in Arabic were seen in the Middle East.
Reported in Al Jarzeera never reported in any Western Media.

3<– It is my limited understanding that there is nothing in the film clips that may be not true , only shown in a manner not liked.

4<–A bated question “Doesn't the rioting, destruction and murdering PROVE the premise of “a film that may or may not exist and film clips that may or may not been properly translated”?

I believe that this one goes in the file with the "man on the grassy knoll" especially since a movie comes out next month that looks a little like this and a remake of the 1997 Dustin Hoffman and Robert De Niro move "Wag the Dog.

It is interesting that a campaign guy has been quoted as using “we” in reference to the administration’s struggle on the issue.

Jabberwock on October 15, 2012 at 4:07 PM

Now for the serious point about all of this. True or not, fact or fiction. The salient point here is that a 12 min poorly done film clip that most people have never seen can turn millions of Muslims into “Offended” raging, rioting, murders. Have I missed something here or has someone discovered the ultimate low cost high yield Weapon of Mass Destruction.

Just imagine for a minute if some made a low budget film clip of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in an outhouse using the Qur’an for a Sears Roebuck Catalog.

jpcpt03 on October 15, 2012 at 4:07 PM

It’s critically important for the Obama-Biden ticket to lose, for big reasons like, oh, the salvation of the USA and to give civilization itself a fair shot. Sure, but among the many lesser reasons would be for Axelrod’s sake. Once he’s cut loose he’d be free to pursue his true calling: terrorizing adolescents as a middle-school assistant principle.

He’s not elected. He’s not a Cabinet member. He’s not National Security Adviser or Secretary of State or Director of (name a sensitive agency here). He wasn’t elected President, he’s not married to one.

Yet there he is, dictating, announcing, yammering dictates on and off like he’s Commissar of the Gulag.

And isn’t he “back in Chicago” running his alleged “marketing” business?

Yet there he goes on and on, demanding this, determining that, making this, that announcement that affects all of America’s very safety and security and futures as if he’s Ruler.
