Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on October 14, 2012 by Allahpundit

Not much to see this morning beyond the usual Axelrod/Gibbs/Gillespie battle o’ the talking points, alas, but Darrell Issa’s preview on “Meet the Press” of the next round of Benghazi hearings could bring genuine news. “This Week” might be fun too, as Rob Portman, Newt Gingrich, and Joe Biden’s son Beau discuss weigh in on whether or not Biden was in fact a complete jackhole at the debate Thursday night. (Spoiler: He was.)

In honor of Ax’s appearance, a little something from his Twitter feed posted early — too early — on Friday night:

Sorry, Nats fans. If it’s any consolation, I root for the Mets and Pirates. And I can tell you from experience: As much as that brutal collapse might hurt right now, in the course of time it’ll … still really hurt. That’s baseball. This is your life now. Good luck coping. The line-up via WaPo:

NBC’s Meet the Press: Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC); Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA); Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD); Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA); Mayor Kasim Reed (D-Atlanta); former governorn Jennifer Granholm (D-MI); Alex Castellanos, GOP strategist; Tom Brokaw, NBC; Stephen Colbert

CBS’ Face the Nation: Romney campaign advisor Bay Buchanan; Katrina vanden Heuvel, The Nation; Frank Luntz, Republican pollster; David Corn, Mother Jones; John Dickerson, CBS and Slate

ABC’s This Week: Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH); Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden; Newt Gingrich; former Senator and 2008 Democratic presidential candidate Chris Dodd; Martha Raddatz, ABC; Richard Norton Smith, presidential historian; George Will, ABC; Donna Brazile, Democratic strategist

Fox News Sunday: David Axelrod, Obama campaign senior strategist; Ed Gillespie, Romney campaign senior adviser; Brit Hume, Fox News; Bob Woodward, Washington Post; Laura Ingraham, radio show host; Jeff Zeleny, New York Times

CNN’s State of the Union with Candy Crowley: Senior Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs; DNC Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL); Al Cardenas, former chairman of the Florida Republican Party; Jim Acosta, CNN; Susan Page, USA Today; Grover Norquist, Americans for Tax Reform; Bill Burton, Priorities USA

I don’t know, but Nats fans are drinking over the decision to shut Strasberg down. Here’s a hint to the Nationals management: if you do this kind of thing in the future, you might want to consider scheduling it the way your divisional rivals, the Braves did with Kris Medlen–instead of making him stop pitching in September, don’t let him start pitching until June.

Talking heads = Bobble Heads. You wiggle them and the same thing happens every single time. In the case of the “talking heads” it is just talking “points.” The biggest insult to the American voter is assuming we are stupid, and this goes for both sides, and that we cannot make up our own minds. Sometimes I’m not sure if I have the TV on the news or Comedy Central. Of course once the election is over we’ll we subjected to months of “analysis.” Hopefully in a few weeks we’ll be talking about hope because we changed!

It’s still too early to tell definitively, but early reports are indicating that things are trending toward the strong possibility of Obama sucking hard.

Wait… it is not too early to tell. It has been confirmed.

tomas on October 14, 2012 at 8:18 AM

Maybe a bit of a lead in early votes in Ohio only. How do we know what kind of lead Obama really has other than checking early Dem vs. Repub ballots?

It’s not an exact science, but can get more exact when you compare 2012 to 2008 for both sides. No way Obama can be winning when Romney is leading Indies by Double Digits in Polling.

“we are writing subpoenas for Hillary Clinton and Susan Rice and they will be served tomorrow”

the only words I want to hear from Mr Issa…

hillsoftx on October 14, 2012 at 8:16 AM

I’m a little disappointed at Issa, his committee, and the conservative journalists who are covering this fiasco. Why? They’re all mincing words and not getting to the heart of the matter.

First, they’ve established that the level of security was woefully inadequate: they didn’t have the appropriate number of security personnel there and the building didn’t meet security requirements. As I understand it, Lamb from State and two superiors rejected requests for additional security personnel. (Those two superiors need to be subpoenaed to determine whether their decision was reviewed by a superior of theirs.) Also, Lamb issued a waiver regarding the building’s security requirements in late August. (It’s unclear whether a superior of hers was involved.)

Second, it’s abundantly clear that there was absolutely no protest involved. So how did this story get fabricated? Where did it originate? Issa et al. have established that Lamb had audio of the attack as it was happening. So what did she do with that information? At the same time, what was the initial conclusion of the intelligence community? It appears that their conclusion was that it was a terrorist attack. So what did they do with that information?

Third, we need an organizational chart illustrating the levels of information. Top level is Obama, Biden, and the WH in general. I think, but I’m not sure, Rice gets grouped with them because Obama long ago moved her out from underneath the State Department and made her a cabinet-level position. As such, they can ostensibly say that she belongs with them as far as the cluelessness Biden said they suffered from for so long. Immediately below them is Hillary and her clowns at State, which include that moron Lamb. Now, where I’m confused is where “the intelligence community” fits in. Do they report directly to the WH? Or do they fall under State? Or do they fall under DOD?

Something I don’t understand is that someone (WH? State? Who?) made an almost-immediate decision to characterize this as terrorism in order to unleash various “intelligence assets.” Why isn’t this definitive characterization?

It’s way past time to get some phucking answers.

In Ohio, it’s blacks sprinting to the polls to vote for Obama.

Good thing to see that they’re waiting to see the debates to measure the candidates.

Who are the racists?

BuckeyeSam on October 14, 2012 at 8:57 AM

Obama has a wide lead in early voting

tomas on October 14, 2012 at 8:18 AM

He’ll have a wide lead in the fraudulent vote too. But then, early voting and fraudulent voting are pretty much the same.

This is what bothers me. Clear back to Nixon who lost the election to Kennedy possibly because of fraud up in New York or somewhere. He refused to protest it”for the good of the nation.” I’ve been hearing that crap come out of republicans mouths ever since. Even in the Florida recount between Bush and Al Gore… Bush just sat there while Al Gore kept recounting the votes in Democrat territories. Bush should have pressed recounting votes in all the counties. Look at all the fraud Democrats have engaged in… trashing the White House, stealing from the WH, voter fraud.. and for the “good of the nation” the GOP does little.

All this “for the good of the nation” crap has done is encourage more and more corruption.
People are practically the same everywhere. You encourage terrorists by appeasement. You encourage fraud by appeasement just as much.

The accuracy of Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. For the 6,704 people who were asked whether they had voted yet, the credibility interval was 1.3 points. For the 361 people who replied that they had already cast their ballots, the credibility interval was 10 points.

Will there be Zero plants among the questioners? Of course. Will Crowley be in the tank for Zero? Of course. But Romney has all the facts, all details about all the failures of this administration, and Zero has got nothin’. Does he bring up the jobs numbers? BAM! 70 million viewers get a lesson in what a growing economy should look like (hint: it isn’t part-time jobs and people giving up looking for work). Romney won’t get run over.

I don’t think Romney will get run over. Romney is accustomed to speaking extemporaneously in speeches and to small audiences (from being governor and in business for all those years). He just needs to remain calm, focused on his message, and be ready to zing Duh Won. He’s excelled at that thus far. Be brief and specific.

Barry will not have a teleprompter, so that means he will ramble and BS a lot. Mitt needs to be aggressive and cut off Barry’s screeds if he rambles on.

AND, here’s the latest: With Voting Underway In Oh-So-Important Ohio, Romney Nose-to-Nose with Obama:

“….In an election for Ohio’s 18 vital electoral votes today, 10/09/12, one week after Buckeye voting began and 4 weeks till votes are counted, Barack Obama is at 45% to Mitt Romney’s 44%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for WCMH-TV, NBC4 in Columbus. Obama and Hillary lied about the September 11 terrorist attack to protect themselves and to hide their failures.

These people need to be removed. Incompetent Barack Obama has no business being in the White House and Hillary is just a power-hungry fraud.

Get rid of them

Of course they’re neck and neck in Ohio. Everyone knows that. With these phony democrat polls coming out, one of two things is happening:

1) Zero’s campaign knows they’re going to lose, and they’re setting up a “we was robbed” narrative

or

2) Ohio is where their vote fraud efforts will be concentrated, and they need him appearing “ahead” so it won’t look so glaringly obvious.
