Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:01 am on October 12, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

We’ve had a couple of these collections of verbal tics from Barack Obama’s speeches as OOTDs, but apparently the Greatest Orator In Modern American Presidential History didn’t learn from those YouTube videos. That’s too bad for Obama; if he’d watched one or two of them, he might have avoided this one from the debate, compiled by BuzzFeed’s Dorsey Shaw:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=819q62ZMYVk

Dorsey commented: “Even the president’s most loyal fans have got to be getting annoyed with this.”  They certainly weren’t impressed by the impression Obama left in the first and most critical debate, nor his preparation for an event that has been on his schedule for the last four years.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

PappyD61 on October 12, 2012 at 8:03 AM

Meh, I don’t expect much from Obama and he still can’t deliver. I imagine Hillary Clinton wakes up every morning and says ‘I can’t believe I lost to this putz!’

CitizenEgg on October 12, 2012 at 8:04 AM

Rush did this years ago. And made sure to say : “Folks, we didn’t repeat one thing here.”

Marcus on October 12, 2012 at 8:07 AM

Uhhhhhhh……uhhhhhh…….the new meme after next weeks debate?…..uuhhhhhh….

Or a second term.

Greatest Orator In Modern American Presidential History

Why the short-thrift? What’s this “modern” business? Or all those “American” and “presidential” qualifiers?

Just more “Big Bird” lies from O:

“My opponent says over and over that he can cut taxes, increase military spending, close the deficit. But the only thing he’s pointing to that he’s willing to get rid of is Big Bird.”

uh,uh, I got nothin’.

Candy-stuffed Crowley will be a bigger version of Raddatz in the debate next week. She will constantly interrupt Romney for the benefit of her boy.

She can’t do it too much because she will be disrespectful to the voters asking the questions.

Verbal tics?

It is not a tic, it is a tell.

[He only does this when he is lying.]

I was once standing in line at the Registrar’s at Stanford Univeristy and a guy in front of me turned around and asked me how “Stanford” was spelled: he’d gotten it down as “S-T-A-N-D-F-E-R-D” and was sure that was correct.

I’m sorry to have to include with this little tale that the fellow had been admitted to Stanford and was there to “work out the bills”. Clearly, a special admission.

Lourdes on October 12, 2012 at 8:46 AM

That video is so annoying and embarrassing that I can’t even watch it!

And, Instant Karma: I misspelled “University” – ha.

Lourdes on October 12, 2012 at 8:48 AM

after this debate result sinks in…….

and if Obama doesn’t soar in the next debate or Mitt hands it too him…

it could be BRUTAL.

Ambassador Stevens asked repeatedly for help, and the Administration ignored him. Obama went to bed when he had been called while the attack was underway over there (the story goes).

Is this UE sorry excuse for a troll gumbey’s impersonation or alter-ego on the non-poll threads??? he seems to to do the same type of hijacking by posting as much nonsense as ne can…it amuses me that each time he spends the day rambling irrationally on the threads here, like the pro troll he is, he comes with some moronic excuse such as ‘I am trying to avoid doing some work that I have to to, and I need a distraction’ :)…looks like playing with himself is not a good enough distraction :)…

jimver on October 12, 2012 at 9:00 AM

This next debate might not be much better for President Thin-Skin. He’s used to having town hall affairs that are rigged in his favor. I can’t imagine what will happen if he gets asked a tough question.

bflat879 on October 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM

To borrow from Rush. We let him use the teleprompter just to make it fair.

RickinNH on October 12, 2012 at 10:11 AM

At least UH has only two letters, so he should be able to speel it. Unlike O-I-H-O.

Nutstuyu on October 12, 2012 at 10:14 AM

bflat879 on October 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM

Oh, he’ll probably do what he always does, try to tap dance around it with a soft shoe shuffle. Too bad Gregory Hines isn’t still around to give him some lessons.

The “gifted orator” is nothing without his prepared speech and Teleprompter.

GarandFan on October 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM

That is funny. And tastefully done, just enough “What I’ve said is….” and “What I’ve always said is….” thrown in for effect.

It’s Okay, even the smartest President EVAH seems a bit loss for words!

Prediction: Audience at Town Hall debate will be SEIU union members paid to be there along with the rest of Martha’s wedding party.

Anyone else aware of this non-conflict of interest?

katablog.com on October 12, 2012 at 12:49 PM

spit it out ya dumbass.

Tim_CA on October 12, 2012 at 12:56 PM

Right, the uhs have it, but why doesn’t anyone notice the two other verbal tics the President often displays?

Both of them are in this video.

He frequently says “yo” when he means “you know,” and he whistles when he says “s” at the end of a word.

No worries…I consider it a preemptive strike….you know it will slug it’s way over here in a while, leaving a mucus trail across the entire board.

kekelaward on October 12, 2012 at 1:35 PM

Imagine a video combining this clip of Obama with the one the RNC put out last night showing all of Biden’s laughing and facial contortions. It would be a perfect metaphor for this political season.
