Carney: Biden was obviously talking about the president, himself, and the WH, not the entire administration

posted at 2:41 pm on October 12, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

For as much as Joe Biden tried to go after Paul Ryan for supposed “loose talk” and blustering about a “bunch of stuff,” Biden really stuck his foot in his mouth — and then some — when he tried to parry Ryan’s accusations about the administration’s handling of additional security requests from Libya, he claiming that, “We did not know they wanted more security there.” …Uh huh. As Ed already handily summarized, according to a House hearing earlier this weekend, that seems to contradict testimony from the State Department, and even if it is true, that would reflect a disturbing level of incompetence on the part of the White House.

It was up to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to spin that into something less damaging at the press briefing this morning, and the best he could come up with seems to be that Biden was merely speaking for the upper echelons of the White House and the president and himself personally; Biden clearly didn’t mean the entire administration, or something. Via BuzzFeed:

The vice president was speaking about himself and the president, and the White House. He was not referring to the administration, clearly, since there was a public hearing for four-and-a-half hours where it was discussed openly by individuals working at the State Department, requests that were made. Obviously, he was referring to, he wasn’t talking about the administration writ large, he was speaking about the president, himself, and the White House.

The only thing “obvious” to me is that the White House is still trying to defend their not-at-all-political continuing attempts to chalk the attacks up to outrage over a video when they clearly knew otherwise, and the “administration’s” ongoing inability to get their story straight. And even if the president and Biden himself didn’t know about it, so what? Obama has still put together an administration that can’t or won’t adequately deal with repeated security concerns. As Gingrich noted this morning, the American people would be forgiven for developing some trust issues here.

It’s almost to the point where they are slowly pulling back from their transparent support of Obama into a more passive role, even critical at times. It’s as if they realize (finally) that another 4 years of this is truly dangerous and are now content to let Obama and Biden make fools of themselves. They want them out but can’t bring themselves to be overt about it.

The WH is trying to throw the Hillary & the State Dept, and the intel community under the bus.

I hope those being targeted decide to flip the bus over.

Biden: State & CIA Lie on Libya, but Tell Truth on Iran

Following last night’s VP debate, I found myself extremely uneasy. After all that I have said against the current occupants of the White House, their economic and foreign policies, their governing philosophy, and their ethics, I realized that I have been way too easy on them.

Despite efforts to assist him by the atrocious debate moderator, in 90 minutes last night, Joe Biden proved over and over that neither he nor his boss should be anywhere near the levers of power of our country….

On Libya, Biden lied gave an account at variance with the truth. He threw the entire intel community and the State Department to the wolves….Foggy Bottom will exact its revenge. The leaks will come fast and furious (to use a phrase that did not come up last night) to show how the White House was informed and did nothing….

In effect, he claimed that State, CIA, etc., deceived the White House. Interesting relationship that between Secretary Clinton and President Obama, that between Director Petraeus and President Obama . . .

Now when the shoe’s on the other foot, Obama and Biden, as well as Holder, want to claim ignorance? when their underlings do something without their knowledge.

How convenient.

Isn’t the “White House” the “administration”? Isn’t this like DWS (or was it Stephanie Cutter) who said just because they got their facts wrong doesn’t mean they were in error?

Paul-Cincy on October 12, 2012 at 2:46 PM

Actually, I think “white house” tends to be reserved for the people who actually work physically in the whitehouse, ie, the President, Vice President, and their staff. So there is a genuine difference between that, and the administration as a whole, which includes all of the departments.

But the claim is still ludicrous, since it means either
A. They are lying their arses off.
B. There was a terrorist attack and the president of the United States remained unaware that it was the work of terrorists for days or even weeks.

Looking at it that way, even disregarding every partisan and electoral aspect of this, I have to hope and pray that they are lying through their teeth.

Obama Knew About Benghazi Terror Attacks 90 Minutes After They Began… Went to Bed (Video)

Obama’s “My Pet Goat” moment.

Do you remember how GDub was skewered, skewered I say, over the time he continued to read to the children at that school in FL while the terrorist attack was going on on 9/11???

My Pet Goat
My Beauty Sleep

ted c on October 12, 2012 at 3:42 PM

On September 11, 2001, President George W. Bush, while reading a book to children in Florida called “My Pet Goat,” found Andy Card whispering in his ear that America had been attacked and we were at war.

Not wanting to drop everything and flee lest he scare the children, the President calmly finished the book, then left to a profoundly changed America. Ever since then, the left has excoriated President Bush for continuing to read “My Pet Goat.” Barack Obama, careful to never have such a moment, has just failed miserably.

You can hear the audio, with Fred Thompson’s commentary over it, here. It is profoundly disturbing and disrespectful to the families of the victims and the soldiers at Ft. Hood, Tx.

Instead of acting to not alarm unsuspecting kids, Obama couldn’t be bothered to interrupt his cool-guy image and interest-group pandering.

George Bush had 1 My Pet Goat Moment,…..Obama is on his 2nd or third….

I really hope so. A real dream come true would be for Obama and his entire family (and please also take Eric Holder) sneak out of the country with $200 million in U.S. Cash to any one of about 92 countries that don’t have an extradition treaty would the U.S. We’d be getting rid of him cheap (it would cost more than $200 million to try him and even then the jury would be deadlocked.)Even more fun would be Jay Carney’s and Stephanie Cutter’s rationalizations to justify why what he did was “correct” and “wise”.

MaiDee on October 12, 2012 at 3:45 PM

And then the part saying the grieving mother was just playing politics and trying to score points against Obama…that was just disgusting. Carney should be fired over that alone. As for the other…as has been said…the Clinton’s don’t take things like this sitting down. I’m still hoping for a State vs WH war to start going on. Break up the Dem party for November. Works for me!

Carney: Biden was obviously talking about the president, himself, and the WH, not the entire administration

That should effectively gut Sarbanes-Oxley.

If the top two people in a company (government executive) say they didn’t know something was happening, they are not responsible for it.

That should work just fine. “We didn’t know” is now a good defense to Sarbanes-Oxley charges.

Or is Carney saying business must be more responsible than government?

jaime on October 12, 2012 at 3:54 PM

Why doesn’t anyone in this administration or their fawning press accept the age-old premise “the buck stops here”? Why don’t we demand that as American citizens? In any organization, private or public, the chief executive gets credit when things go well and must assume responsibility when things don’t. Hillary Clinton is responsible for this fiasco in Libya and Obama is responsible for Clinton. There’s no ducking here-this is cut and dried. Biden doesn’t get the right to “option” out of this. It happened on your watch. Just like finding Bin Laden. It cuts both ways.

Texlib on October 12, 2012 at 4:02 PM

Notice the way Carney tries to squelch any further questions by using words like “self evident” and “obviously” (it’s self evident it was a terrorist attack and obviously he wasn’t talking about himself, the President or the White House). Inferring we’re a bunch of dunderheads for thinking otherwise and any further questions on the matter will only prove our lack of intelligence.

Mitoch55 on October 12, 2012 at 4:02 PM

Or is Carney saying business must be more responsible than government?

jaime on October 12, 2012 at 3:54 PM

It depends on who the CEO is .
For example, if Mitt Romney is CEO, he is responsible for everything that did and did not happen before , during and after his term as CEO, including deaths of people not even remotely associated with his establishments.
Now if it is John Corzine……

burrata on October 12, 2012 at 4:03 PM

Based on that, Biden could have said in debate:

“we didn’t lose any money on Solyndra”
(clearly I meant I didn’t lose money)

“we didn’t get our credit downgraded”
(clearly I meant to say that my credit rating is fine)

“we didn’t have an increase in unemployment”
(clearly I meant that I still have a job)

“we don’t have a massive deficit ”
(clearly I meant to say that I have plenty of money in bank)

Please tell me that Carney was met with derisive laughter.

These are the kind of outright lights that constitute “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

I remember during the Lewinsky scandal, we were constantly told that it didn’t “rise to the level” of high crimes and misdemeanors, because, really, it was just a personal matter between a man, his wife and his humidor.

This is a matter of national security. People are dead who would be alive today if not for the incompetence of the Administration (including the two bozos at the top of it). And the Administration clearly has been trying to create a patently false narrative to avoid the political consequences of their catastrophic military and strategic intelligence failure. If this doesn’t “rise to the level” … indeed, if it does not rise an order of magnitude beyond even Watergate… well nothing ever will.

“And by the way, at the time we were told exactly — we said exactly what the intelligence community told us that they knew. That was the assessment. And as the intelligence community changed their view, we made it clear they changed their view.”

- Joe Biden, at the debate

On the morning of the 12th of September — that would be the morning after the evening President Obama had been briefed that there was an ongoing assault on the Benghazi consulate and the Ambassador was missing and went to bed to get his beauty sleep – the President was told that Stevens and 3 others were dead…evidently, he did not answer the 3 AM phone call or his staff didn’t think it was important enough to tell him…he canceled his PDB and made a statement in the Rose Garden.

The significance of his statement is that, standing next to him, was one Hillary Clinton – THE SECRETARY OF STATE.

Now, why is this important?

The Deputy Assistant of State, Charlene Lamb, has already testified that she was able to follow what happened “in almost real time” from a command centre in Washington. She KNEW what had happened.

Do they really think that we are stupid enough to believe that the Deputy Assistant of State did not tell the Secretary of State what she witnessed “in almost real time” from a command centre in DC and the Secretary of State didn’t tell the President of the United States before she joined him in the Rose Garden for his address to the nation?

Really?

It’s great. The biggest User has met an even bigger user. Suck it, Bill. You thought you could control that genie or at least keep it bottled up, and now you find you are in it’s cross-hairs. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch, IMO.

Nobody bothered to tell the President about an attack on 9-11 at an Embassy?????????

Maybe it wasn’t 3:00a.m. WH time?

Bmore on October 12, 2012 at 5:12 PM

There’s only two options here. One, the current WH is grossly incompetent, which, sadly, is believable. Or Two, the WH was covering their own butts in the months before the election.

Is both one and two a choice?

It’s a mess. Think of how much more a mess if we had a functioning media.

Remember way back when during the Abu Ghraib incident? How it was all Bush’s fault because he was the CINC and so was personally responsible for every action of every MP in the army?

New Obama rules. The buck stops with whoever they feel like blaming.

MJBrutus on October 12, 2012 at 5:28 PM

I’m not sure which is worse, not providing the necessary security or being so out of the loop they don’t even know what’s going on. This inept, incompetent White House and its occupants are disgusting and despicable. Other than play golf, attend fund raisers and read from an occasional teleprompter, what in hell does Obama and his chief flunky do all day?

rplat on October 12, 2012 at 5:34 PM

What I find fascinating is the fact that, At No Time did the Twin Towers make a request for additional security because they may be targeted again (after the 1993 attempt) to the Bush Administration, yet Bush wast TOTALLY INCOMPETENT for not figuring out from cryptic intellegence information that the Twin Towers were specifically going to be targeted on September 11 2001, yet Obama should be excused for Not Knowing that an Ambassador who requested Additional Security and noted that he was on a List of targets was Actually Targeted.

Somebody made the astute point that Obama-Biden aren’t responsible for real-time events in their Administration, but Romney is responsible for Bain decisions years after he left the company.

wait wait wait wait wait. Did ol’ Joe not say he, “mean what I say,” when Ryan slapped him upside the head when he stated Joe would know something about not always using the right words? So, why the clarifications????? One more pile of “uh-oh” ol’ Joe left out in the yard.

Carney said in that press briefing that the WH put out a press release on September 10th that they were taking extra precautions to protect US interests on the Anniversary of 9/11, but Ed Henry did not follow up and ask him what specific actions they took to protect Benghazi on 9/11, if any. Shoddy reporting, but the spin meister did throw up alot of bluster to divert attention.

txmomof6 on October 12, 2012 at 6:57 PM

So who is in charge of this administration? The lame excuses sure don’t speak well of presidential leadership.

State Dept. Confirms: Marines on 9/11/12 Were Protecting U.S. Embassy–in Barbados

When terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11 of this year and killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans, there were no U.S. Marines deployed in Libya to defend U.S. diplomats, diplomatic facilities and classified information and equipment.

However, says the State Department, a Marine Security Detachment was deployed on that day to carry out those duties at the U.S. Embassy in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Hold on a second. . . Didn’t The Won tell Univision that his “top priority” (a list that is longer than my arm and none of which ever get accomplished, but I digress) was the safety of diplomats? If that is the case wouldn ‘t he be ever so carefully tuned in to their requests for additional protection?

If not, then he must have been lying. As usual.

OBAMA DOESN’T ATTEND HIS DAILY INTELLIGENCE BRIEFINGS.

Maybe during those briefings, Obama MIGHT have been informed of the danger in Benghazi.

After all, there were NUMEROUS attacks on the Consulate in the SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER 11, 2012. The British closed their consulate; the Americans were attacked; and anyone with access to intelligence, would have known that the Benghazi Consulate was in danger.

OBAMA DOESN’T ATTEND HIS DAILY INTEL BRIEFS.

That’s probably the problem, don’t you think?

The vice president was speaking about himself and the president, and the White House. He was not referring to the administration,

No you didn’t really just say that………….

pathetic.

And back to you, Hilliarity. Doncha just love it when karma bites the Clintons in the rear end.

Kissmygrits on October 12, 2012 at 9:10 PM

The vice president was speaking about himself and the president, and the White House. He was not referring to the administration, clearly, since there was a public hearing for four-and-a-half hours where it was discussed openly by individuals working at the State Department, requests that were made. Obviously, he was referring to, he wasn’t talking about the administration writ large, he was speaking about the president, himself, and the White House.

Well, if State was openly discussing it, why, in Heaven’s name, was it not included in the Presidential Daily Briefings?

Or, maybe it was but someone just didn’t care, or, just as likely, he had an early tee time on his mind.

Bill Clinton Seeking Legal Advice for Hilary re Benghazi…
——-
LINK: to Daily Caller article:  http://dailycaller.com/2012/10/12/the-clinton-obama-rift/#ixzz297GKXiCS

…Despite their mutual lack of trust, Clinton and Obama have managed to keep their personal feelings under control — up to now. But in the wake of the fatal attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Clinton is concerned that the White House and Obama’s campaign headquarters in Chicago are moving to dump political and legal blame for the Libya mess on the State Department and, by definition, on Hillary Clinton herself.

My sources tell me that Clinton is working on a strategy that will allow Hillary to avoid having Benghazi become a stain on her political fortunes should she decide to run for president in 2016.

Bill Clinton has even gone so far as to seek legal advice about Hillary’s liability in terms of cables and memos that might be subpoenaed by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which this week launched an investigation into the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. The committee will also examine the apparent Obama administration cover-up that followed the Benghazi attack.

Finally, I’m told that Bill is playing with various doomsday scenarios, up to and including the idea that Hillary should consider resigning over the issue if the Obama team tries to use her as a scapegoat. That seems unlikely to happen. But if relations between Obama’s White House and Hillary’s State Department rupture publicly over the growing Benghazi scandal, that could damage the Democratic ticket and dim Obama’s chances for re-election.

NightmareOnKStreet on October 12, 2012 at 11:39 PM

Got it, anything good is always Obama’s doing, but anything bad he had nothing to do with and didn’t know about.

I have people working under me and if they screw up I take responsibility to my clients because I am responsible, and I do whatever I can to fix it. And I deal with it internally so it doesn’t happen again. Wow, I guess that makes me more qualified to be president than Zero.

Early voting starts Oct. 22 here in Texas, and I don’t care what anyone says, I will be there that morning when the polls open because I couldn’t possibly wait a minute longer.

Obowma is a petulant child and a narcissist who blames everyone else for his failures-ATM’s, tsunamis, while he takes all credit for any success: I got bin Laden. He did the same with Fast and Furious, blaming Bush until the news FINALLY reported something about it and he claimed executive for Eric Holder who is guilty.
