This was easily the most disturbing moment of the entire debate — so much so that media outlets like the Washington Post and BuzzFeed immediately published rebuttals to Joe Biden’s claim at the end of the debate. When Martha Raddatz opened the event by talking about Libya, Paul Ryan hammered the Obama administration for not heeding the calls for better security in an area where everyone knew that al-Qaeda and other radical Islamist terror networks had grown significantly since Obama and NATO decapitated the Qaddafi regime. Biden’s defense? Claim ignorance:

During the vice presidential debate Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden said the administration “did not know” that personnel working at the American embassy in Libya had requested more security before the deadly attack on Sept. 11.
As Biden was discussing the attack, Martha Raddatz, the debate moderator, cut in.
“And they wanted more security there,” Raddatz said.
“But we weren’t told they wanted more security there,” Biden responded. “We did not know they wanted more security there.”
That assertion runs counter to evidence and testimonies that were presented at aHouse Oversight Committee hearing Wednesday, where the committee released five memos requesting additional security, and witnesses from the State Department confirmed that those requests had been denied.
Glenn Kessler objected as well:
But this was contradicted by State Department officials just this week, in testimony before a congressional panel and in unclassified cables released by a congressional committee. “All of us at post were in sync that we wanted these resources,” said Eric Nordstrom, the top regional security officer in Libya earlier this year. A Utah national guardsman who led a security team, Lt. Col. Andrew Wood, said: “We felt great frustration that those requests were ignored or just never met.”
Just taking Biden at his word, we’d have to believe that (a) the State Department had no special concern over personnel in eastern Libya, where the weak central government can’t even deploy a police force, (b) the White House was unaware that al-Qaeda had expanded its operations in the region, and (c) no one remembered that the anniversary of 9/11 was approaching. That’s a shocking level of incompetence to confess on national TV. Small wonder that CNN’s tracking group considered this Joe Biden’s lowest point of the debate.
Furthermore, one has to wonder how the intelligence community will react to Biden’s bus-tossing them during the debate, too:
Vice President Biden blamed intelligence officials for the administration’s changing account of the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, during Thursday night’s debate with Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).
The Obama administration has been under fire for initially linking the attack on the U.S. Consulate to an anti-Islam video made in the U.S. before later acknowledging that that the attack was an act of terrorism, not a protest that turned violent.
Biden said the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, was repeating what intelligence sources had told her when she blamed the video as a “proximate cause” of the violence in an interview five days after the attack.
“The intelligence community told us that,” Biden said. “As they learned more facts about exactly what happened, they changed their assessment.”
Then why did the White House designate it a terrorist attack within the first 24 hours while insisting publicly that it was a “spontaneous protest” that “spun out of control”?
Update: Via Daniel Halper, CBS News’ Jan Crawford reported that Biden “may have some clean up of his own to do today on Libya”:

Biden has come under fire for saying at Thursday night’s debate, “We weren’t told they wanted more security. We did not know they wanted more security there.”
The Cable asked Deputy National Security Advisor for Communications Ben Rhodes whether Biden was speaking for the entire Obama administration, including the State Department, which acknowledged receiving multiple requests for more Libya security in the months before the attacks. Rhodes said that Biden speaks only for himself and the president and neither of them knew about the requests at the time.
So … it’s official that no one at the White House had a clue what was happening in a mess Obama helped create in eastern Libya? Words fail me.

“Obama adminstration talking points scrubbed jihadists from Cairo as well as Benghazi
In the days after the Benhazi attack, the State Department scurried to cover up its failure to heed warnings of such attacks while the White House scurried to cover up the fact that that attacks were the work of al Qaeda-linked terrorists of the sort President Obama supposedly had largely vanquished. The final Benghazi “talking points” and Susan Rice’s talk show appearances represent the product of this scurrying.
To help advance the narrative that the Benghazi attacks were spontaneous, and thus (a) not to have been anticipated and (b) not linked to al Qaeda, the talking points tied Benghazi to the events of the same day in Cairo. There, unlike in Benghazi, a protest had occurred.
Here is what the final version of the talking points said on this subject:
The currently available information suggests that the demonstrations in Benghazi were spontaneously inspired by the protests at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and evolved into a direct assault against the U.S. diplomatic post and subsequently its annex. There are indications that extremists participated in the violent demonstrations.
Through these two sentences, the administration succeeded in misleading Congress about events in both Benghazi and Cairo.
The statement about Benghazi is simply false. There was no spontaneously inspired protest; rather, there was a pre-planned attack.
In Cairo, as noted, there were protests. But, as Tom Joscelyn argues, the protests were pre-planned, with jihadists playing a prominent role.
Multiple early versions of the CIA-drafted talking points make this clear. For example, the CIA stated:
On 10 September, the Agency notified Embassy Cairo of social media reports calling for a demonstration and encouraging jihadists to break into the Embassy.
The “social media reports” in question included a September 10 tweet from Mohammed al Zawahiri, the younger brother of al Qaeda emir Ayman al Zawahiri. He called on “the sons of the Jihadi Movement to participate tomorrow in the demonstration in front of the American Embassy.” And he included a banner displaying an al Qaeda-style black flag in his tweet.
That banner featured prominently during the 9/11 demonstration in Cairo. Says Joscelyn, protesters waved dozens of them as they chanted “Obama, Obama, we are all Osama.” The message was clear: jihad in general, and al Qaeda in particular, live on without Osama bin Laden.
This was precisely the message the Obama administration wished to suppress. And, for its part, the State Department wanted to suppress the fact that, not only were there warnings about danger to facilities in Libya, but also warnings about planned jihadist activity at the embassy in Cairo on 9/11/12.
Accordingly, the talking points were edited to remove any reference to “jihadists” threatening the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.
As Joscelyn concludes:
The early versions of the Benghazi talking points were right to highlight the threat posed by “jihadists” in Cairo. The thread connecting Cairo to Benghazi is plain to see: Al Qaeda-linked jihadists helped orchestrate both.
The Obama administration’s edits removed them from the story…”

The Coalition For Life, a pro-life group from Cedar Rapids, Iowa was questioned by an IRS agent in Cincinnati named “Ms. Richards” as early as April, 2009. The Coalition stated to the IRS that it was “organized for charitable, religious and educational activities.”
Some of the questions asked about the prayer meetings the group held and what was written on signs that the group held when protesting Planned Parenthood. More than 150 pages of correspondence between the organization and the IRS occurred in 2009, even though the group’s assertion that it was “organized for charitable, religious and educational activities” qualified it as a tax-exempt entity under 501(c)(3) status.
Friday’s testimony in Washington by IRS officials stated that the targeting of conservative groups only began in 2010 after a plethora of Tea Party and Liberty groups applied for 501(c)(4) status.
Despite the fact that 501(c)(3) organizations are permitted to have religious activities and advocate on non-partisan issues, some of the queries sent to Coalition For Life included:

Organizations exempt under 501(c)(3) may present opinions with scientific or medical facts. Explain in detail the activities at these prayer meetings.
Please provide the percentage of time your group spends on prayer groups as compared with other activities of the organization.
Please explain in detail the signs that are being held up outside Planned Parenthood, and explain how they are considered educational.
The Coalition For Life’s attorney answered the IRS in 2009:
These inquiries indicate some very wrong assumptions about the coalitions and the applicable law. As a result, the coalition has been prejudiced and has suffered harm since it is unable to solicit and receive tax deductible charitable contributions…”

I’m not an attorney, never been to college, just a one time Airman, retired grocer on a disability. I just want to share this..
at a family gathering yesterday, small, democrats and republicans, all low end working class.. the sense of the discussion was depressed.. all of us, all in and around the same ages.. all were stunned to our socks by the IRS admission of targeting individuals for their political beliefs.
A sinking feeling to the pit of my stomach best describes it. having been in the last years of the cold war.. standing a post against the Soviets, I have to wonder, is this even my country anymore?
Where political persecution is not only happening, but condoned by some?
The subject became very personal.. I’ve had a running fight with workers comp.. and now, medicare,.. how can I deal with this, and not wonder in the back of my mind, is there a big red R stamped on my files?
and the same thing occurred to everyone else there, even the democrats were sick about it, we’re family, politics or not.. and they wondered.. how would I feel were it me the government didn’t like? I’m not saying that I’m being targeted..
