WaPo wonders: Say, where’s Hillary these days?

posted at 9:21 am on October 10, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Good question.  After all, the State Department actually conducted the dog-and-pony show on behalf of the White House after the terrorist attack on our Benghazi consulate that left four Americans dead, including the first US Ambassador assassinated on assignment in 33 years.  Hillary Clinton’s UN envoy Susan Rice went on five Sunday talk shows to propagate a cover story that Hillary Clinton’s own organization announced last night it never believed.

So where is the Secretary of State these days, anyway?

The fatal attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Libya last month has become a test of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s leadership and a threat to her much-admired legacy as America’s top diplomat just a few months before she plans to step down.

Clinton was among the first Obama administration officials to publicly condemn the attack and mourn the deaths of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. But as the State Department has weathered Republican-led criticism that it misread warning signs before the Sept. 11 attack, Clinton has been far less visible. …

Clinton briefed members of Congress privately days after the attack and has called individual members frequently. She spoke to Issa on Monday, another senior State Department official said.

“They did not ask, and there was no serious discussion at this point that she would testify,” the official said.

Clinton has made no public mention of the attack or investigation since Oct. 3. She has no public speaking events on her schedule this week. A trusted Clinton confidant who is the chief protector of her image is reviewing all media inquiries related to the attack.

Issa isn’t asking yet, but eventually the Secretary of State will have to answer — or answer for — serious questions that have arisen in the wake of the Obama administration’s narrative collapse on Benghazi.  First, the State Department will have to reveal who told Susan Rice to go out and lie on national television about the nature of the attack.  Either Rice did that willingly or unwittingly, but she clearly wasn’t being briefed by the State Department before those television appearances, as State now says they never believed that there were protests at the consulate before the attack.  Did her superior at State — who can only be Hillary — tell her to use that story?  Or did Rice take her marching orders from the White House itself? If so, who, and under what understanding: that the story was true, or that it was false?

Next, and more importantly, come questions of security precautions at a consulate already under attack and located in Islamist Terrorism Central since the fall of Qaddafi.  Hillary is ultimately responsible for that, too.  Who told Benghazi and Ambassador Stevens to stop asking for more security, and who told that person to tell Stevens that?  That buck either stops with Hillary or with Barack Obama himself.

Under these circumstances in earlier and more honorable times, both Hillary Clinton and Susan Rice would have already resigned their posts.  That’s especially true in Rice’s case, who got caught pushing a lie that tried to cover up the fact that the US suffered a terrorist attack.  Either the lie is hers, in which case resignation is the only possible step, or someone lied to her and used her to push it out to the public, in which case a person of her rank should resign immediately in protest and reveal what happened.  The fact that Rice has not resigned as of yet tells us that the latter was not the case, and also tells us all we need to know about her integrity.  As for Hillary Clinton, her “legacy” is about to get defined — unless she starts talking about who ordered the cover-up.  If not, then we probably know all we need to know about her integrity and legacy as well.

Update: I know we’ve posted this Heritage video before, but it’s worth watching again in light of what the State Department announced last night and Hillary’s disappearance in the last few days.

Didn’t Sec. Clinton and Amb Rice just a few days earlier work with some Islamist organization to sponsor a UN resolution that would condemn slander against Islam or some similar crap? And isn’t Sec. Clinton’s personal advisor and close friend the daughter of a big wig in the Muslim Brotherhood? There’s no doubt whatsoever the Whitehouse and State Dept have lied about this incident from the beginning. The real question is why. I have a suspicion it goes far beyond simply hurting Obama’s reelection.

RobertE on October 10, 2012 at 11:40 AM

Boy…it must be getting crowded under that desk with Amb. Rice, Jay Carney, Rep. Wasserman-Schultz and now Hillary Clinton all trying to hide under it!

Blaise on October 10, 2012 at 11:45 AM

Where’s Hillary? That is an easy question.

She is hiding her ass off trying to avoid fallout from the murders of 4 Americans.. among many other things…

Hillary is hoping their sacrificial lamb Amb. Rice takes all the fall for Hillary’s own incompetence.

Hint to media: Why don’t you start asking Hillary the hard questions.
Hillary IS The Secretary of State if I am not mistaken. Civilians working for the State Department overseas are HILLARY’s responsibility.

Rice is nothing but a diversion…

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is Responsible and is the person the questions need to directed to first.

Obviously the term Lame Stream Media was well earned..

Hilarity is hiding out, taking time to make up another superheroine story similar to the one she make about being under fire in Bosnia. I can’t wait to hear this one!

boogieboy on October 10, 2012 at 12:12 PM

p.s.
The media will only be able to cover for Hillary for so long, then the people will come to their senses and realize that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the First person responsible for the total failure in Benghazi.

Start questioning Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

RockyJ. on October 10, 2012 at 12:13 PM

She is working fast & furious to put together a coalition to attack Iran or invade Libya. Time is critical here.

cozmo on October 10, 2012 at 9:27 AM

She’s got to be Speedy Gonzalez then, coz really, not enough time till the elections…even the neocons and darth vader himself couldn’t put together a coalition this fast…plus she has to go to the UN and do the splainin’, just like that silly general turned diplomat splained to the highest-minded forum on da planet about WMDs and stuff :)…..

WaPo wonders: Say, where’s Hillary these days?

“I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.”
–Hillary Clinton, speech at George Washington University, March 17, 2008.

Maybe she’s working on another juicy fib to justify her absence.
She lied before. She’ll lie again. It’s ingrained in her. After all, she’s a politician, and we all know that politicians lie. Some lie better than others. Billary is still showing rookie mistakes. She’ll get better at it…if the voters let her.

Who selected Amb Rice as the spokesperson for the administration. She was both an employee of the State Department and a Cabinet member of the Obama White House. Who briefed her on the cover story..?

HERE is an article covering Hillary’s frightful experience when she visited Bosnia amidst a hail of sniper fire. As you can see in the picture, Hillary’s ego is sucking up all the attention on the tarmac after she departed the aircraft at a heavily fortified U.S. Air Force base in Tuzla, Bosnia. Nobody’s shooting. Nobody’s ducking or running.

And to boot, it’s covered by the Washington Post. Now isn’t that ironic?

What will the PUMAs have to say about any backlash against Hill? Not that I think there will be one prior to the election.

Where’s Hillary? Presiding over the funeral for her 2016 presidential hopes.

jnelchef on October 10, 2012 at 1:15 PM

I think Hillary is still clinging onto to that dream of being the first female president of the US. This failure in Libya has sealed her fate.

I do not understand why she would take the job of secretary of state in an Obama admin since they clearly hated each other in 2008.

I wish Bill Clinton would stop campaigning for O and be quiet. I’m not sure if he has been lately or not, but he did give speech at DNC.

She seems to be trying to throw her underling Lamb (in front of Congressional panel now) under the bus. The panel doesn’t seem to be buying that from the looks of it.

You correctly pointed out that she lied, OPENLY, before. Not that TravelGate and Foster’s so called suicide are not lies, either.

Mr. Morrissey, I have respectfully added something to your excellent post. Please accept my addition to your comment in the spirit it is given.

The following people should resign.

1. The person who rejected Stevens’ requests for more security.
2. The person in charge of securing the consulate and its staff.
3. Rice
4. The person who told Rice to lie.
5. Those who should have immediately corrected Rice’s lies – Clinton and Obama.
6. That Eye Candy moron on The View who lied to naive Joy Behar, telling her 2 weeks after the attack that whether it was a terrorist attack was still under investigation, when he knew from the outset that it was a terrorist attack.

Where’s Huma, the foxy secret agent. Can Congress compel her to come before them (us) and answer questions?

steveracer on October 10, 2012 at 2:05 PM

It’s way past time for Susan Rice to do another round of interviews, and if anyone gets subpoened to speak before Congress that person ought to be Rice. Call the security stonewall, whomever that might have been. Call the management Undersecretary, whomever that is.

Build the case against Clinton’s legacy at State just as if you were building a wall; one brick at a time.

Hillary won’t be brought low by testifying before Congress, until the Congress has heard out Susan Rice in excruciating detail.

carolt2 on October 10, 2012 at 1:30 PM

Why? She thought she could build her resume while totally isolated from what the Clintons were sure would be his massive c/f of the domestic economy. It appeared that he would continue President George W. Bush’s foreign policy and that would not be a serious career risk for her.

She almost made it too, falling short by only a few months.

slickwillie2001 on October 10, 2012 at 2:59 PM

How soon folks forget that Boobah has a varigated past.

Her nobility is questionable to say the least, and just because Obama put her out to pasture as Secretary of State, it changes nothing.

This was the same Hillary that took care of Vince Foster, probably Ron Brown, the conveniently missing FBI files (which she had no right to for starters, but nevertheless used to smear and denigrate the folks the files left at her mercy)plus numerous other stinky things about the Clinton administration and Hillary.

While she has collected a tidy sum as S of S, the accomplishments in that role are not exactly earth shaking. Denial of security for the Libyan Embassy and Consulate obviously went through her “In” and “Out” pile, but nothing seems to have stuck to her. Either she was a empty suit at State, or she really wasn’t up on what was going on in her bailiwick.

I just don’t want to see her get her name on the plaque for “Greatest Secretary of State,” and I still would like to see her in an orange jumpsuit.

where’s Hillary these days?

Hiding under a rock

I am still trying to wrap myself around the reality of death by severe asphyxiation. How does severe asphyxiation cause bleeding in the stomach? I can see how the bleeding could be caused by severe stomping of the abdominal area, so severe the abdominal area appears darkened

I am also have trouble reconciling a living victim of severe asphyxiation, being hauled by kindly rescuers to clinic, yet who has eyeballs opened and rolled back into the skull like a deceased victim of severe asphyxiation

At the final moment of death, the dying body lets go of orifice control, as a final sign of passing yet it is possible that a living victim of severe asphyxiation could have simply lost control from fear, or by some external splashing on the clothing so the clothing shows wet patches

It is hard to be so old that death becomes familiar.

If I were Hillary, I would hide from the last photo of the severely asphyxiated Ambassador being hauled by the kindly crowd. His eyes are open. God rest his soul, he did not deserve such an end

Hillary Clinton had NO credible experience for her job….. NONE. She was given her job as a fig leaf for Obama’s trouncing and all the scheming that was done to knock her off the platform. She and they have been a collective disaster on all fronts anywhere they have been and everything they touch.

Thousands have died under this administration……. NOT A PEEP from the Democrat Peacenics…. Not a peep from Cindi Sheehan and the CODE PINK crowd. Selective indignation…..

I have been stunned at how Hillary’s many nefarious dealings from Arkansas and beyond…….

I truly believe you have to be mentally ill to be or support the democrat party.

ActinUpinTexas on October 11, 2012 at 2:11 PM

With Obama as the President the word terrorist is not to be used by the White House or the media, wow, talk about control. At Ft Hood there is a murdering doctor of 13 soldiers that yelled to his god as he shot the soldiers and Obama denies the doctor is a terrorist. Hillary is obeying orders like the soldiers at the death camps of WW II. Brings back memories of Vince Foster, huh.
