Video: Mother of State Dep’t worker killed in Benghazi begs White House to stop stonewalling her

posted at 10:04 pm on October 10, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via the Standard, which has a transcript. You’ve watched a lot of clips about Benghazi today but none of them bring home the anguish of Stevens and his team finding themselves defenseless inside a terrorist maelstrom the way this one does. Her exasperation at the administration is gut-wrenching, all the more so because she met personally with Obama, Hillary, Panetta and the rest of the “spontaneous protest” crew and was assured that they were working quickly to find out what happened. Back in reality, the FBI didn’t even get to the consulate to investigate until a few days ago thanks in part to agency infighting between the Bureau and State. Presumably, at this point, they’ll never be able to give her a firm answer about how her son died.

In fact, it was her son, Sean Smith, who in his final hours ended up raising one of the great unanswered questions about the attack. Remember this item at Eurogamer, posted the day after Smith was killed?

Gianturco shared a chat room message posted by Vile Rat [a.k.a. Smith], presumably from earlier that day.

“(12:54:09 PM) vile_rat: assuming we don’t die tonight. We saw one of our ‘police’ that guard the compound taking pictures.”

I haven’t heard anything about the mysterious picture-taking Libyan “policeman” since then. Over to you, Rep. Issa.

This tragedy will be the undoing of Duh Won, I agree. For the foreign policy debate, Mitt needs to draw the timeline and the decision tree for the chain of responsibility, and in a cogent, easily understandable way, explain what happened and the depth of the failure of this tragedy. It was incompetence, straight up.

This is an act of war. How did it spiral so far out of control and why did we respond so lamely? Where was Dear Leader when he found out the attack occurred and that our embassy staff and contractors were dead? Why did he go to Las Vegas to campaign during this crisis? Who told Amb. Rice to go on national TV and spew lies – she is Barky’s direct report. Why did CNN and other media beat our investigators to a nearly destroyed crime scene?

What did Barry know and when did he know it? So many lies, so little leadership.

Thank you Col. Wood and State Dep’t security officer Eric Nordstrom, for your patriotism and courage for coming forward on this attempt to hide the truth from the American people and from the families of the perished.

Now, if only one courageous General or Admiral would now risk all and come forward on the rest of what you know about this President and his entire team when it comes to lack of leadership, leaking classified info, and the rest of the Benghazi story, too, and come forward NOW, a nation would be in your debt forever, and your children and grandchildren would be as well. Please ask yourself, “What would General Washington do?”

COOPER: so she told you personally that she thought it was a result of the video of the protest.

Any woman who is a mother cares (and many who aren’t mothers care) about this story. Multiple members of this administration, including Obama himself, lied to the face of a mother whose son was murdered at the hands of Jihadists.

And this administration thinks they can portray themselves as caring about “the children” by talking about Big Bird and Elmo.

Which means, that while the DOS was scrambling to cover their rears in that teleconference last night in which they described the gruesome death of Sean Smith for the first time, they didn’t have the basic human decency to first notify his mother in advance.

The media knew about it before she did.

There are no words profane enough to describe this callous and inhuman administration. Human life is simply fodder for their political games.

I bet the State department was trying to hold onto the causes of death until they come out with a report, after the election of course.

This woman pain and the adminstration treatment of her is heartbreaking. When will Obama, Biden, Clinton, Rice and Panetta answer her? Sadly I think never. Just a letter after the press has reported it.

Gracelynn on October 10, 2012 at 11:41 PM

Once we get the Romney administration in we need to send the justice department after the people responsible for this. Hit them with criminal prosecutions and send them to jail.

Vegi on October 10, 2012 at 11:45 PM

This is heartbreaking . . . as well as an outrage. What spoke volumes to me was when she stated that she cried on Obama’s shoulder and he just stared into the distance.

You know, cerebral, professorly “slow jam the news” cool may have gotten O into that job, but there are times as president when you need more than that. You need compassion and a willingness to be real. Sure, it’s a bit awkward and perhaps not the standard protocol to say to a mother whose son was killed because of your administration’s incompetence, “We blew it. I’m so very sorry.” Humilityis awkward, but is appreciated far more than empty promises. Hubris and aloofness and arrogant pride simply has no place in a moment like that.

Shame on all of them, and shame on them also for allowing Romney to be excoriated for boldly stating the truth after the attack while their lying selves and their media BFF’s pointed fingers and labeled him a “liar.”

in france the family of a deceased soldier or official/civil servant who died in the course of duty, can request an autopsy any time, they might not release the report of the autopsy to the family right away, if it’s part of a larger investigation, but they have to provide them with it eventually. But autopsies are not standard practice on all fallen soldiers. My wife is telling me that in the US all deceased service member go through an autopsy process, it’s automatic. it’s rather recent, basically since the Afghanistan invasion or Iraq war (not sure which), but all get a CT scan and have autopsy performed, whether the family requests it or not. but in this case the guy was State Dept employee, not sure which rules apply there, but certainly the family can request an autopsy report.

Anyone else notice that the deeper in excrement that Hillary gets, the slower she talks? She will be sounding like Susan Collins in a week or so.

I see Obama continues to win friends and influence people. Seriously though, what are they hiding? What is so bad that they won’t come clean? The evidence of Steven’s requests for more security have already been made public. We all know Obama failed to keep them safe. How they died is important to the families, but it’s not the kind of thing the general public is usually privy to anyway. We all know now that it was indeed a terrorist attack. So, what are they hiding?

I’m glad CNN and CBS are finally telling the stories we have all known about for a long time and RIGHT BEFORE ELECTION DAY!

Better late than never.
