Tim Kaine won’t say if he’d support Harry Reid for Majority Leader

posted at 2:01 pm on October 9, 2012 by Mary Katharine Ham

The last time we joined former Governors Tim Kaine and George Allen on the debate stage in Virginia, Kaine was bumbling his way through an answer to a 47-percent question, saying he’d be open to a minimum federal income tax for everyone, at all income levels. This jibed perfectly with Allen’s attempts to the former head of the DNC as— what else?— a tax hiker.

Last night, the man who was literally the leading partisan in the country continued his metamorphosis back toward bipartisan moderate by throwing Harry Reid under the bus:

Speaking to reporters following his second televised debate against Republican George Allen Monday night, Democratic Senate candidate Tim Kaine of Virginia was asked if he would vote for Harry Reid, currently the majority leader, for the Democrats’ top position in the U.S. Senate. Kaine refused to answer the question.

“It’s too early to talk about leadership questions,” Kaine said. “That’s not the kind of thing you talk about when you’re a candidate who still has to win a race. I’m not going to be thinking about things after the race. I still have a lot of hard work to do over the next 28 days.”

Kaine has a small lead in Virginia, according to the Real Clear Politics average, no doubt buoyed by tremendous spending by Obama and the DNC. Read Mike Warren’s whole story to get a feel for the state of the race there.

Before the debate, both Kaine and Allen were on the air with ads. Kaine used the ever-popular Sen. Mark Warner on his behalf while Allen touched on a serious statewide sore spot– looming sequestration cuts that are spooking large military and defense contractor populations.

Kaine says not interested in being Senator; only wants to win the election. Telegraphs intention to remain on vacation if elected.

He’ll vote with the Democrats, because that’s what Democrats do. Will he vote to repeal Obamacare? Will he actually fight for a budget? There is no reason to vote for any Democrat for the Senate, based on their past performance.

I don’t know why it matters. Kaine won’t be in the Senate. Conventional wisdom is that whoever the state elects for President will carry the Senate candidate along. And I refuse to believe my state would be so stupid twice.

And for the record, I say throw them all out of leadership positions, both parties. President Romney is going to need a fresh start. Pelosi, Reid, Boehner, McConnell; get rid of them all.

In particular, how is Romney supposed to be civil with Reid after he called him a criminal and bad Mormon?

Happy Nomad on October 9, 2012 at 2:43 PM

The “helpful” domestic-interventionist Democrat Party of feel-good Leftist policy wonks and theorists use extortion against the very populations they say “owe” the DNC for whatever (homes, food, jobs, healthcare, “tax-free status,” etc).

COMPARE THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE UP ABOVE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE RATE
25% higher for Hispanics
70% higher for Blacks
200% higher for Teens
Dr. Richard Eberling — Northwood Univ. Professor of Economics.

So Tim Kaine isn’t so stupid as to stay publicly obligated to Reid/Obama government crack dependency domination.

Same as manchin did during his campaign when he insisted he is “independent” and not beholden to Hussein and Reid. Votes with liberals after election. Too bad he will be re-elected.

riddick on October 9, 2012 at 4:01 PM

This isn’t news. He’s saying nothing here. If he said “I won’t vote for Harry Reid”, that’s a little stronger, but probably irrelevant to the results if the Dems hold the Senate. But if he said “I’d refuse to serve under Reid”, and would either switch parties or resign, that would be news. But he’s a long way from saying that…

prigsbee on October 9, 2012 at 4:34 PM

even if the Dems maintain control of the senate, Harry will be too busy searching for Romney’s tax returns (like a pig looking for truffles)…he can’t multi-task…my guess is that BigBird will be the new senate leader on the left.

FACT: Prior to the 2010 election, many, many d-cRAT socialists running for election/re-election distanced themselves from crazy, dingbat pelosi like she was the toxic waste she really is. After the election, the relatively few that survived went back to kiss her deranged butt, including overwhelming electing her as their minority leader.

Moral: NEVER, EVER trust a d-cRAT socialist on anything.

You really think that DNC doesn’t have all of Romney’s tax filings by now? Same as those FBI files somehow ending on Clintons’ desks back in the ’90s. Its the same crap Pelosi pulled on Newt and it only stopped when Newt publicly stated she should put up or shut up. Too bad Romney’s people have no balls…

I really have no idea what Romney’s people are doing by not going after idiots like Letterman, HARD and FAST. Would be fun to hear Letterman’s/CBS’s “proof” to the judge that Romney is a felon. Sue in a neutral state, Texas, let’s say, where judges and juries are not communist and take libel seriously. And make him read, a LENGTHY apology, SLOWLY, on TV to his audience. “I am an admitted LIAR, I habve no idea about FACTS, etc, etc, etc”. Should be fun.

I know they have the tax returns riddick (release date is supposedly Oct 15). But they only have them in electronic form, meaning they hacked something that has a trail. Right now they are deciding who gets the 5 yrs in prison for each year released. Romney releasing the summary from his accountants was baiting the trap. Much like Obama going into the debate with the sole “47%” meme on the same day that the Obama Katrina tapes came out…Obama is a lazy idiot that went into that debate with that sole “47%” bullet but didn’t dare fire it. Romney was hoping he would (“you want to talk about old videos buddy?”). Romney should work for Orkin I think!

teejk on October 9, 2012 at 6:58 PM

There is no issue with Hussein using “47%”. At all. All Romney has to say is, “And I want to make sure that as many of them are able to get a job. Finally. After 4 years of your policies’ failures. My policies will ensure that anyone who wants a job is able to find one.”

No need to even mention “video”, just a simple, direct and to the point answer. If Hussein at that point wants to mention videos, whatever, let him fumble through it. Should be interesting to get him off the script again. As a matter of fact, Romney should try to get Hussein off the script each time he gets. “Benghazi” and “Fast and Furious” MUST BE USED at each and every opportunity, Allen West is very good at tying those in almost in every question. Make people google these terms as the debate goes on, IMO more than 80% of the population has no idea about these events. Make them aware, finally.

Tax returns wise, liberals ARE idiots, no doubt about it, but as soon as they understand they need to spend years being Bubba’s Bitch in prison and destroy their knees in the process, they tend to come to their senses. Quickly. Especially when they know releasing these tax returns won’t change the outcome on Nov 6th.

riddick on October 9, 2012 at 7:55 PM

Seriously I think there is more name familiarity for Kaine because he was governor, and Allen was senator and governor quite a long time ago.

But Kaine reverts to democrat type when you don’t want him to, and that is what the voters have to know about him. Allen had his reputation spoiled by the media a few years back, and I think that is his current struggle. A lot of young voters don’t remember him.
