Suffolk pollster: We’re not polling Florida, Virginia, or North Carolina anymore, because Romney’s going to win them

posted at 10:17 pm on October 9, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via Gateway Pundit, I’ll give you the RCP averages tonight and leave you to judge. They’ve got Romney by three points in NC (although the latest poll has him up nine), Romney by less than a point in FL, and Obama by less than half a point in VA.

See Guy Benson for more good news in various state polls. Ohio and Pennsylvania are getting tighter.

I think NC’s been a given for months. Florida was a must-win(and a likely one) since a loss there would mean an Obama landslide. As for Virginia, it’s traditionally Republican and it reverted to form when Bob McDonnell won by nearly 18 points less than a year after Obama’s immaculation.

It all comes down to Ohio(or Pennsylvania) and one other state, even one as EV-deprived as New Hampshire. Romney gets those and he’s President.

Thee debates left with 4 weeks, seems a bit early to be making that call. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always believed my state (Florida) was going Romney. But this may reflect more on Suffolk than the race.

Mark1971 on October 9, 2012 at 10:21 PM

I don’t think so, but I’d have to make them honorary after this.

This is like no longer polling Ohio or Florida in 2008 because Obama was totally going to win them (there is no analogue from the left this year). It may be true, but those states aren’t just, you know, some states. They represent in a binary fashion who is actually going to win the whole thing.

I guess polling isn’t getting cheaper than anything else, however, so if Suffolk would rather spend there money finding out exactly how close Romney is coming to winning PA and MI, more power to them.

Based on what? There are several polls in the last few days showing Romney leading in both of those states. And since we still don’t know what the electorate will really look like on November 6, it’s insane to pencil either O-I-H-O or Virginia into Obmaa’s column.

I made an Election Prediction model that is based on vote by “RACE” and based on the “Voters Intensity Factor”. In this model if I assume that 3% of Obama 2008 voters stay home in 2012 then for Romney to win the following battleground states the percentage of “White Voters” who voted for Obama in 2008 who need to switch and vote for Romney in 2012 are as follow:

Florida (5% of Obama 2008 White Voters switch and vote for Romney in 2012 and 3% of Obama 2008 voters staying home)
Ohio (7% of Obama 2008 White Voters switch and vote for Romney in 2012 and 3% of Obama 2008 voters staying home)

North Carolina (0% of Obama 2008 White Voters switch and vote for Romney in 2012 and 3% of Obama 2008 voters staying home)
Colorado (10% of Obama 2008 White Voters switch and vote for Romney in 2012 and 3% of Obama 2008 voters staying home)
Iowa (7% of Obama 2008 White Voters switch and vote for Romney in 2012 and 3% of Obama 2008 voters staying home)
New Hampshire (10% of Obama 2008 White Voters switch and vote for Romney in 2012 and 3% of Obama 2008 voters staying home)

Minnesota (12% of Obama 2008 White Voters switch and vote for Romney in 2012 and 3% of Obama 2008 voters staying home)
Nevada ( 17% of Obama 2008 White Voters switch and vote for Romney in 2012 and 3% of Obama 2008 voters staying home)
Michigan (18% of Obama 2008 White Voters switch and vote for Romney in 2012 and 3% of Obama 2008 voters staying home)
