Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?

posted at 9:31 am on October 7, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Time once again to make your picks from this week’s eye-popping Obamateurisms!  We don’t recycle around here; we get plenty from the campaign trail to keep things fresh.  Even so, readers often find one no-brainer among them — will you this week?

Previous weekly “winners” in 2012:

Previous Obamateurisms of the Year:

  • Giving 2 minutes of “shout-outs” before getting to the Fort Hood shooting (2009)
  • Obama leaves Clinton at press conference podium on tax deal to attend Christmas party (2010)
  • “I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president— with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln.” (2011)

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

I chose campaigning while 4 murders were being committed and our citizens were under siege all over the Middle East.

Although I was tempted to vote for “Pick a winner, Barry”.

You guys just can’t handle any dose of reality.

I said after the debate and when the numbers started to turn towards Romney, that the jobs numbers would be crucial and could turn the momentum back, which they did.

Conservatives on Twitter are saying the same thing.

If you want to ignore reality and live in some partisan bubble, that’s your choice.

22044 on October 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM

As Rasmussen and PPP both show, as soon as Thursday and Friday roll off the samples, Obama is back comfortably in the lead.

They don’t actually show that, but that’s very nice try on your part. PPP shows O’s lead in Wisconsin down to 2 and falling, while Romney is ahead in Va and Fl, and on the verge of pulling ahead in Ohio. Your understanding of statistics and trends is about on par with your knowledge of betting leverage. :D

Come on, you wanted to make a bet, you little coward. Offer us something that isn’t sure to happen regardless of the outcome. Or are you too chicken to make a real bet? Don’t get all butthurt just because you don’t have the sack to put something on the line that might actually hurt.

If the jobs numbers had been worse, I don’t doubt one bit that the debate would have been the moment that might have won Romney the race.

But the 7.8 number undid all the impact, and gave people a reason to vote for Obama again (those that were looking for one).

gumbyandpokey on October 7, 2012 at 10:46 AM

Only in liberal fantasies is a 7.8% unemployment rate a good thing. Moreso when that number is based on part-time workers giving up on finding full-time work. You’re going to be in for a very rude awakening when people choose to believe their own lying eyes over government statistics.

Caiwyn on October 7, 2012 at 11:01 AM

“He doesn’t answer directly. He’s been asked this befopre too.

GumbyandPokey, who do you want to win the election?”

I’ve answered this before.

I will vote for Romney. I voted for Santorum in the primary.

I think Obama has a 100% chance of winning. I think Romney is an awful candidate running an awful campaign with an awful campaign staff.

Romney had his one shining moment with the debate performance and that impact was quickly erased with the jobs report.

These results are based upon nightly interviews and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. As a result, today’s update is the first based entirely upon interviews conducted after the first presidential debate last Wednesday night.

But you won’t, because you know as well as we do that Obama’s going down in flames after that disastrous debate performance. 70 million people saw the SCOAMF in action, and if you really thought he was rebounding you’d make a real bet.

Come on, yellow. Make us an offer. I dare you.

PPP tweeted yesterday that their Saturday polling was showing results similar to pre-debate levels.

Rasmussen is showing the same thing.

The majority of PPP’s WI’s poll was taken on Thursday and Friday, so of course it shows the Romney bounce. Any poll with the majority of sampling done on Saturday onward will show what’s going post-jobs report.

This is why I’m here. People will drool over a poll that was done mostly showing the glow of the debate bounce but is already hopelessly out of date since the 7.8 number changed the race, as had the debate.

gumbyandpokey on October 7, 2012 at 11:05 AM

I went with Eye Candy because it was all about the Owe, but I realize that the campaigning while the embassy burned was far more egregious.

Now, about Gumbyandpokey: I think it should not be banned at this point. It’s irritating to have someone lie but we have to be made of bigger stuff. Banning it would just tell it that it got to us.

I am confused about its’ claims since I read at Rassmussen that indeed the numbers are the same (49 – 47), except it appears the names changed: Mitt Romney attracting support from 49% of voters nationwide, while President Obama earns the vote from 47%.

The bottom line is that those who take the time to read HotAir and even post are not going to be dissuaded by gumby. IF only we could get 47% more of the voters to actually READ, we’d be be looking at numbers of 95% Romneym, 3% Owe.

gumbyandpokey on October 7, 2012 at 11:01 AM

Thanks for “answering”. But I don’t believe you. For you to work so hard at your self-fulfilling prophesy (as if you could affect folks here) trying to prove Romney and Ryan will lose, why would you even go to a poll. Why would you vote for someone you worked so hard to defeat. It doesn’t add up. What? On the morning of November 7th are you going to come back here and say, “Great job guys, we actually did it!” Nope, cuz that’s not the outcome you want. Considering your behavior here and the lion’s share of your spamming, you wanting Romney to win just doesn’t add up.

If I were King, I’d ban you.

But I’m not so I’ll just pledge to not bother with your comments.

PS, I was a Perry supporter probably and one of Santorum’s biggests defenders here. But they lost. The time to move on has long since past if you really do want to beat obama. If there is any real chance that somewhere in your commenting that you really are GOP (which I doubt) then just realize that Romney won. And Romney is proving to be a better candidate and is already more presidential than even some of his most ardent supporters could have imagined. He trounced obama in the debate. Any real Conservative would be highlighting that instead of the half-truth sour grapes you’re pushing.

Seems to be a common trait around here. Nobody believes the crap they spew in the echo chamber.

Heck, you have people so in denial that they’re still saying the jobs report isn’t believed by people when yesterday’s polling says the exact opposite. And that’s polling from both a Republican leaning pollster in Rasmussen and Dem leaning pollster in PPP.

wargamer6 on October 7, 2012 at 11:19 AM

I think we may have collectively made Gumbyandpokey cry. You guys should be ashamed.

CW on October 7, 2012 at 11:19 AM

Hey Gumby..
Why did Obama make the claim back in 2009 that unemployment would be around 5.6% today?

How could he make such a claim knowing that he had no experience at governing or policy making before?

Could it be that he was looking at past administrations and what they were able to achieve?

This prez failed.

Electrongod on October 7, 2012 at 11:19 AM

Will you take the bet or are you gutless, too?

gumbyandpokey on October 7, 2012 at 11:13 AM

gummeandpolesitter…I took the bet for all of them…read behind yourself weiner!

KOOLAID2 on October 7, 2012 at 11:19 AM

“Why should I take a bet with a worthless sack of shit fake con like you?

wargamer6 on October 7, 2012 at 11:14 AM”

If you thought you were going to win, you would.

You are just a COWARD. All bluster and no guts. Like CW…

gumbyandpokey on October 7, 2012 at 11:20 AM

GumbyandPokey just won today. Congrats conservatives for falling in the yap trap of name calling and 1st grade tactics of “I know you are, but what am I?”/// I really thought better of this group until today.
OUT.

skeedro on October 7, 2012 at 11:20 AM

Option 1. Just more evidence of rampant narcissism that the irony in his own words is so lost on him.

swinia sutki on October 7, 2012 at 11:21 AM

CW, I trust you can handle this little coward from here. If he really wants to bet money, I’m in. No way does a 7.8% statistic based on people settling for part-time work instead of full-time sway public opinion. People aren’t going to believe a statistic over their own lying eyes.

Caiwyn on October 7, 2012 at 11:16 AM

As someone else stated 60-70 percent of people have a distrust of the media. The attempt to spin these numbers will not fly.

Hey just wait til tomorrow as it appears Newsweek will go with the Obama illegal donor story….

fun times.

CW on October 7, 2012 at 11:21 AM

Any real Conservative would be highlighting that instead of the half-truth sour grapes you’re pushing.

hawkdriver on October 7, 2012 at 11:16 AM

It’s a lib in “conservative” clothing.

VegasRick on October 7, 2012 at 11:21 AM

Show me “people” here at HA that claimed Rasmussen was a fraud when his poll has shown Obama ahead…and while you are at it…tell us about Walker.

CW on October 7, 2012 at 11:10 AM

I don’t know what it’s talking about either CW. Most people here have been asking folks to follow the trends and not just get hooked on a single poll or a single source. He’s inventing commentary that didn’t take place.

hawkdriver on October 7, 2012 at 11:21 AM

gumbyandpokey on October 7, 2012 at 11:20 AM

Blah blah blah. Typical Obama supporter blather. Shouldn’t you be servicing your blow up doll, that you put Jim Messina’s face on?

wargamer6 on October 7, 2012 at 11:21 AM

Gumby don’t cry….

CW on October 7, 2012 at 11:21 AM

hawkdriver on October 7, 2012 at 11:21 AM

I think you mean he is lying.

CW on October 7, 2012 at 11:22 AM

NOTE: this thread is about the Obamateurism of the week. Mea Culpa for joining in the off-topic. Let’s all move on.

Wow, the embassy thing was really a BAD move for a sitting President who then whines about Congress campaigning.

But the I-Candy was sooooo Obama.

katablog.com on October 7, 2012 at 11:22 AM

Gumby is like the Black Knight.

22044 on October 7, 2012 at 11:22 AM

Li’l bammie’s “on fire”.

Tim_CA on October 7, 2012 at 11:22 AM

Gumby again define conviction. I don’t think you know what it means and how it applies here.

CW on October 7, 2012 at 11:22 AM

Yeah, I’m leaving this thread too.

22044 on October 7, 2012 at 11:23 AM

Interesting body language interpretation of touching your nose.

Touching the nose can indicate that the person has detected a bad smell. It is also common signal from a person who is not telling the truth.

When a person lies, blood vessels in their nose may dilate, making the nose swell or appear redder. The nasal engorgement then causes mast cells to release histamine, which makes the nose itch and so may lead to the person touching or scratching it (this is probably the basis of the Pinocchio story).

Rubbing the finger alongside the nose can indicate disagreement. It may also be a semi-suppressed nose-scratch related to lying.

COWARD CW,

You are right for a change!

I am laughing so hard I’m beginning to tear up. You guys don’t think Romney will win any more than I do. For some reason, you feel it’s your job to buck up the base and trudge on. Keep trudging, guys. It’s going to get tougher when Obama is back ahead in a few days.

gumbyandpokey on October 7, 2012 at 11:25 AM

I can tell we have upset poor Gumby.

CW on October 7, 2012 at 11:25 AM

Too bad we couldn’t count as an Obamateurism Michelle’s scowl after the debate.
