Woman at GOP Rally, “I was not calling Ryan out”

posted at 8:31 am on October 6, 2012 by Jazz Shaw

To hear the Obama campaign tell the story, VP candidate Paul Ryan got a real earful at one of his own events this past week. An Iowa woman chimed in with a question for the candidate which she felt deserved an answer.

At the town hall event on Tuesday, [Linda] Morrison cited a contentious exchange between Ryan and Fox News anchor Chris Wallace on Sunday, in which Ryan said it would take too long to explain the details of his tax plan. She asked the vice presidential candidate why he wasn’t more specific, and why he “didn’t answer his question about what are your plans.”

That was too good of an opportunity to pass up for Team Obama, who immediately took to the wires with a snark filled attack. Paul Ryan “can’t attend his own campaign rallies without being called out for failing to provide specifics about what Mitt Romney would do if elected.” Or so went the meme of the day. Unfortunately for Obama, Ms. Morrison not only follows the news, but wasn’t shy about penning a letter to the editor straightening out the events of the day.

I am the woman in the Green Bay Packer jacket at Rep. Paul Ryan’s rally in Clinton who asked him the question about specific plans to fix our economy. Needless to say, I was quite shocked to learn the Obama campaign seized my question, putting out the statement “Even Ryan can’t attend his own rally without being called out.”

I was not calling Ryan out. I had the opportunity to ask a direct question to Paul Ryan and what I got was a complete direct answer with no spin…

Today I am outraged that my question is being misrepresented and used as a political tool against the Romney/Ryan campaign by both media and the Obama camp. The question I asked is what we the citizens want to know: How is the Romney/Ryan plan going to tackle this economy? Paul Ryan answered it with precise clarity.

The author makes it clear that she felt her question was pertinent and she was satisfied with the response. In closing, she poses pretty much the same question to President Obama. What will he do to address the country’s fiscal woes if given another four years? As of this posting, no answer has been forthcoming from the White House.

Wow… that lady’s a real radical, isn’t she? Must be one of those crazy Tea Party women.

The White House cannot answer questions directed towards them, so they must project their flaccidity onto Paul Ryan’s campaign stop. Look Axlerod, is this the best that you’ve got?? Really? Your boy got beat hard the other night and we all know that you’re still butthurt, but, chin up champ–you do have Biden’s performance to look forward to this week. Good for her for taking the time to set the record straight. Chip by chip, if we all keep at it, we might someday hound the media into more “random acts of journalism”. Calling the media out is our task, and the more we do it, the more the general public will stop giving their narratives blanket acceptance.

Is she tea party? Who knows. Probably because she asked a pertinent question that all the tea party wants to know. It’s too bad that no one asked that question of the Once at this same time 4 years ago. We did get a glimpse of his philosophy when he whispered to Joe the Plumber that he wanted to spread the wealth around. I’ll never understand why that didn’t strike fear in the hearts of all thinking Americans. I guess because they are all victims of the public education system. I pray that they are paying attention now.

Linda Morrison, wherever you are, thank you for standing up for yourself and for making your voice heard.

This is the kind of person I love and admire. She is obviously a strong woman with principles.

Rather than grumble quietly to herself or talk only to her friends about how she was being used by the Obama campaign, this wonderful lady Linda Morrison wrote a VERY clear and direct letter setting the record straight.

Guess what, Barack Obama. You messed with the wrong woman.

Can’t tell you all how much I admire people like this. One of the reasons I have a lot of respect for people like Pamela Geller and Michelle Malkin. On the other hand, the apathetic people really get on my nerves.

It did strike fear into the heart of all “thinking” Americans. There in lies the problem and is representative of the up hill battle of conservatism and capitalism in these days. They both take work, sacrifice, and a thoughtful adherence to and application of principals. Not quite convenient enough for a wide section of the American population. Add to it all of the legal and illegal immigrants that have not been integrated into traditional American society and you have the catalyst for the new american (yes little “a”) majority. The battle will be long and arduous to turn this ship around.

To hear Obysmal’s continued fairy tale, look at this lede from RCP:

During a rally in Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday, President Obama took his criticism of Mitt Romney’s debate performance a step further, suggesting the GOP nominee’s “tap dance” Wednesday night on his economic plan was better suited for “Dancing with the Stars” or “Extreme Makeover: Debate Edition.”

Is Obysmal employing a dog whistle with the term “tap dance”? Does Obysmal’s economic plan then be more suited to “Twilight Zone”?

Paul-Cincy on October 6, 2012 at 9:20 AM

Also re. the Democrats’ shocking campaign hypocrisy, Mike Huckabee writes:

Just when you think politics can’t sink any deeper into the mud, they rent a back hoe. This week, Obama’s campaign website posted a letter from a young woman with Down Syndrome. She wrote that she works and pays taxes, but because she gets some government support, she’s one of the 47 percent that Mitt Romney doesn’t care about. It’s sad that she’s been convinced of such a false idea, and it’s sickening to use her to score political points. I know of no Republicans who begrudge help to those who genuinely need it. But I do know the Democratic Convention was practically a four-day infomercial for taxpayer-paid abortion, for any reason. Today, as many as 91 percent of babies diagnosed prenatally with Down Syndrome are aborted. If you’re going to claim to be the only party that cares about people with Down Syndrome, seems to me the least you could do is defend their right to live.

The party that made it legal to kill almost all Down’s Syndrome kids uses one of the few survivors as their spokesperson.
Infuriating.
Every Down’s Syndrome person I’ve known is happy, sweet, & lovable, yet the Left deems most of them not fit to live.

But, where are the answers? I mean, why aren’t you more specific? I heard you, was it Sunday when you were on Fox, and you didn’t answer his question about how we’re going to … you know, what are your plans?”

Ryan launched into Mitt Romney’s five-point plan focusing on energy, education, trade, and their tax plan. The tax plan, which Chris Wallace asked Ryan about on “Fox News Sunday” that the voter referred to, was mentioned last, but he again did not get into what loopholes the plan would close or what deductions they would eliminate in order to get to the 20 percent tax cut his ticket has promised.

We have GOT to replace this idiot. It’s not an option. This country can’t handle another 4 years of his economic policies, if indeed he even has economic policies. Someone should speak from one of his crowds and ask him why he keeps printing more money and borrowing more money and if he ever figured out what how much our deficit was…see if he has an answer. Hehe, that would have been a great Romney question…”and by the way, Mr. President, you’ve had a couple of weeks since the convention now, have you figured out how much the deficit is yet?”

Actually, there are 155 million people in the labor force. For back-of-the envelope purposes, let’s figure that that translates into 100 million households, given that many, if not most households have more than one wage earner, so the top 1 percent would be one million households.

Given an average net worth for the top 1 percent of $19.2 million, if you confiscated all the wealth of the very rich, you’d actually get $19 trillion, which would cover the deficits form many years.

Just thought you’d want to know, so you could say fewer dumb things.

Given an average net worth for the top 1 percent of $19.2 million, if you confiscated all the wealth of the very rich, you’d actually get $19 trillion, which would cover the deficits form many years.

urban elitist on October 6, 2012 at 11:11 AM

Haha, so that’s actually your and your iintellectually challenged, uh, preezy plan, confiscate the wealth of fhe rich, well, now, what canI say, be my guest, go ahead :)…. Your dumbness is beyond the legal limits, cretin, I was talking metaphorically, the fact that you got out of your way and came in to explain how actually confiscating the wealth of the rich would close the deficits, speaks more of your own and your filthy leftist ilk projections than anything…a normal mind wouldn’t have even consider calculating that, since it’s not an option but in the demented marxist minds such as yours everything is an option…

Given that the health care law was debated for almost a year before it was passed, if you didn’t know what was in it, you weren’t paying attention.

urban elitist on October 6, 2012 at 11:21 AM

Yeah, you go with that. Debated? Oh, yeah, you’re right, I remember seeing all those vigorous debates between the two sides on CSPAN. Just like Obama promised. Brought in both sides and fleshed out the best of both viewpoints.

Now, back to reality, that abomination of a bill saw zero debate except behind closed doors in which only democrats were allowed to participate. The bill that got passed was a frankenstenian agglomeration that was designed only to be able to be passed via procedural skulduggery and not even the people voting on it knew what was in the bill.

So, yes, the analogy stands and you are still a democrat koolaid drinking shill.

Ms. Morrison will need a lot of patience. As has been seen by Obama’s debate performance it will take a day or two for a derisive response. Then, as seen in the Libya debacle, at least a week before the Obama Team will have the appropriate ‘story’ to tell– and then another week before the truth unfolds.

Just having a little fun with math, that’s all — procrastinating, actually, on some work I should have been doing.

You weren’t talking metaphorically, you were making an assertion that you believed was true until I proved you wrong.

And now you’re mad that I called you on it, almost literally sputtering with rage as your typing deteriorates to a quality even lower than mine — so it turned out to be even more fun than I thought.

And why would you throw out an assertion like that without expecting someone to do the numbers? You expect your bile-driven ramblings to go unchecked?

Wow, that’s a pretty scathing comment on the Democratic party given that Pelosi is the person that said we have to pass it to find out what’s in it.

But, how about if Romney gives only half the loopholes he’d close? $2.5 trillion worth.

urban elitist on October 6, 2012 at 11:21 AM

So Axelrod made up a number, that has never been used by Romney or Ryan, and is just a fantasy number, made up of lies and exagerations according to Stephanie Cutter, and you expect Romney, Ryan and their supporters to address it as though it had some basis in reality. Bless your heart.

So, what major feature of the bill were you not aware of before it passed? The mandate? The increased Medicaid? The Medicare savings? Coverage of children up to 26? No discrimination against pre-existing conditions?

So, what do we know about Romney’s loophole closing? Not a thing, except the War on Big Bird. Muppets are not taking this lying down, btw (caution, naughty word).

In other words, you got nothing.

In fact, you know that any pledges to close loopholes are lies, because the moment anyone proposes closing a loophole, whosever loophole is being closed will write a six-figure check to Grover Norquist, who has the Republican caucus’s testicles locked in a safe on K Street, he’ll issue a press release calling it a tax hike, and a whimpering John Boehner will back down.

Maybe people are finally starting to push back against the sycophant MSM and their bogus Obama as a benevolent Mensa giant and Romney as a sneering money vacuum meme (and a racist one, at that.) The debate would seem to have exposed that narrative as being just the opposite, with Obama’s voracious government appetite (and racist views which he clearly espoused at Hampton University) and Romney’s more informed common sense private citizen approach. The MSM will not police itself, so it is incumbent upon those of us who are ill served by its presence to offer up the truth at every possible opportunity and press the point to expose their complicity in playing Obama’s attack dog and enabler while attacking Romney’s and Ryan’s character with half-truths, innuendo, and outright fabrication. We need to send shameful Chicago style politics back to Chicago on November 6. Then let Rahm sort it out.

ummmm, urban “elitist”..aside from being a typical arrogant, condescending, passive/aggressive douche..let me throw out a few “facts” for you from Forbes regarding the top 1%…

“Before you can talk about the 1 percent, it’s important to put the figures into perspective by understanding exactly what that figure means. The average annual income of the top 1 percent of the population is $717,000, compared to the average income of the rest of the population, which is around $51,000. The real disparity between the classes isn’t in income, however, but in net value: The 1 percent are worth about $8.4 million, or 70 times the worth of the lower classes.”

So your theory is off by a LOT, say 11 million give or take ; )

DebraChicago on October 6, 2012 at 12:18 PM

oh and mr. idon’tknowchit elitist, you DO acknowledge that tax rates have LITTLE bearing on tax revenues as a percentage of GDP, as history cleary shows they’ve remained static at 18-20% of GDP for the last 70 years or so..right? *winks

DebraChicago on October 6, 2012 at 12:19 PM

What I find fascinating is this…

“It is impossible to ignore the fact that 57 members of Congress, or roughly 11 percent, are members of the financial elite. Overall, 250 members of Congress are millionaires, and their median net worth accounts for roughly $891,000, or nine times that of the average American.

Asking politicians to enact changes that would reduce the wealth of the upper classes is a conflict of interests. It’s little wonder that tax cuts for the wealthy are repeatedly enacted while the reverse is so rarely true. People with high incomes want to keep the money that they have made, and this includes the men and women who control the country.

It’s also important to remember that politicians are supported financially by the wealthy. In order to be elected, politicians of all levels require backing, and that backing generally comes from corporations. It’s impossible to deny the link between politicians and corporations, and the link is consistent regardless of a person’s political leanings. Right or left, big or small, politicians rely on corporations; more importantly, they rely on the extremely wealthy executives of those corporations.

With the majority of tax income coming in from the middle class — despite the progressive tax — and the government’s interests clearly mingling with the upper class, is there any question of why the income disparity continues to grow?”

DebraChicago on October 6, 2012 at 12:22 PM

Wealth and income are two totally different animals..to bad Obama didn’t even consider his debt commission’s ideas, not even an attempt at compromise, would’ve cut 4.5 trillion from our debt. Instead he’s run trillion plus deficits 4 years, very sad as the liberals squawk about the producers.

I would be curious to compare the source of your figures to the source of mine (not NYT v. Forbes, but whoever provided the underlying data). Not saying that Forbes is wrong, but this article on its face has no more (and no less) credibility than the article I linked to.

Interestingly, they have a higher household income than my source, despite the lower net worth.

And, either way, the original assertion to which I responded was:

“even if they seize and confiscate all the wealth of the existing rich (and I wouldn’t put it past our own version of chavez sitting fraudaulently in the WH) he still won’t be able to close the deficit”

and $8 trillion will close the deficit just as surely as $19 trillion will — though not for as many years.

Not, let me be clear, that I’m advocating mass seizures of wealth. Although, I do have a nice Mansion in Georgetown picked out for my commune if the revolution comes. ;)

Bon chance, cher moocher!!

jimver on October 6, 2012 at 12:34 PM

ummm, mr. elitist..more facts for ya from the WSJ and IRS via HotAir ; )

“Barack Obama told the nation Wednesday that “improvements” in Medicare and hiking taxes on the wealthy would stabilize government spending and bring deficit spending to what can charitably be described as a dull roar. The Wall Street Journal does some fact checking on these claims and finds them entirely false. Even if the “rich” gets defined down to the top 10% of filers — whose average annual household income is $114,000 — the level of revenue from even a 100% tax would still not close the budget gap:

Consider the Internal Revenue Service’s income tax statistics for 2008, the latest year for which data are available. The top 1% of taxpayers—those with salaries, dividends and capital gains roughly above about $380,000—paid 38% of taxes. But assume that tax policy confiscated all the taxable income of all the “millionaires and billionaires” Mr. Obama singled out. That yields merely about $938 billion, which is sand on the beach amid the $4 trillion White House budget, a $1.65 trillion deficit, and spending at 25% as a share of the economy, a post-World War II record.

Say we take it up to the top 10%, or everyone with income over $114,000, including joint filers. That’s five times Mr. Obama’s 2% promise. The IRS data are broken down at $100,000, yet taxing all income above that level throws up only $3.4 trillion. And remember, the top 10% already pay 69% of all total income taxes, while the top 5% pay more than all of the other 95%.

Well, 2008 was a bad year, especially for those whose income relied on capital gains. How about 2005, when the economy was expanding, a period that Obama argues showed the rich succeeding at the expense of the poor? The news isn’t much better, and for good reason:

In 2005 the top 5% earned over $145,000. If you took all the income of people over $200,000, it would yield about $1.89 trillion, enough revenue to cover the 2012 bill for Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security—but not the same bill in 2016, as the costs of those entitlements are expected to grow rapidly. The rich, in short, aren’t nearly rich enough to finance Mr. Obama’s entitlement state ambitions—even before his health-care plan kicks in.

In other words, a soak-the-rich policy won’t work, in part because there isn’t enough rich to soak, and in part because the bill is just too high. James Pethokouis delved into the White House’s subsequent release of generalities along which Obama’s new budget would work, and discovers a $2 trillion price tag in it”

Conservatives need to take back the media – they are the true enemy of the state.

Then the education system.

Then the entertainment industry.

It’s time folks. Get involved, run for local government, get a job working at your local radio or television station, work for a conservative blog, get a job in teaching….. It’s time or this country is truly lost.

Sitting back a generation from now saying “I told you so” really isn’t going to cut it.
