Obama: Romney’s debate performance was like watching “Dancing with the Stars”

posted at 7:56 pm on October 5, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Towards the end of the past several weeks — actually, it might even be for months now — I’ve noticed (with annoyance) a lot of media outlets slyly slipping in a bunch of prodding little implications about how “Mitt Romney had a rough week this week,” or, “At the end of another bad week for Mitt Romney…”, blah blah blah. I’ve never been exactly sure what it is they’re all supposedly referring to (“But what about your gaffes?!”), but for some strange reason, unless I’m just missing it, I don’t feel like I’m seeing as much of that today. I wonder why that would be?

Oh, yeah — undeniable and total domination is why, an outcome of which President Obama aptly reminded us today with some petulant-sounding jabs at Mitt Romney’s debate performance. Via RCP:

Now, my opponent, he’s doing a lot of, a little tap dance, at the debate the other night, trying to wiggle out of stuff he’s been saying for a year. Doing like a, it was like, “Dancing with the Stars.” Or, maybe it was, “Extreme Makeover: Debate Edition.” But, no matter what he says, my opponent, he’s a big believer of these top-down economics. He thinks that if we spend another $5 trillion on tax cuts that favor the wealthiest, we get rid of regulations on Wall Street, all of our problems are going to be solved. Jobs and prosperity will rain down from the sky. Deficits will magically disappear. We’ll live happily ever after.

The fact that Team Obama is still, both implicitly and explicitly, blaming the financial crisis on Wall Street and the Bush-era tax cuts… is inexcusable.

And anyway, at least “Dancing with the Stars” has a sense of urgency, excitement, and passion about it. I’d probably compare the precision and animation of the president’s debate showing to an episode of “Antiques Roadshow” in which a contestant found out his most treasured possession wasn’t worth a hill of beans.

It looks like Team Obama is hoping that Vice President Biden’s debate performance next week will do something to take the edge off of the president’s recently dismal one, says The Hill:

Democratic strategists are eyeing the forthcoming debate between Vice President Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) with a mix of hope and nervousness in the wake of President Obama’s widely panned performance in his leadoff encounter with Mitt Romney Wednesday night.

On the plus side, some Democrats feel that a strong performance from Biden next Thursday could turn the page on the president’s near-debacle in Denver.

But they also worry that Biden’s legendary capacity to state his views in an inartful fashion could backfire. …

“Joe Biden needs to go back to the effective organizing principle of the Obama campaign, which was at some level not adhered to last night,” said Chris Lehane, a strategist who worked in the Clinton White House and on Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign.

Sorry, guys, but… I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.

Oh note he’s still spouting the 5 trillion tax cut line when it’s been proven to be a big fat lie.

gophergirl on October 5, 2012 at 8:04 PM

Gee, didn’t his “spokesperson” Cutter just admit that was wrong (AKA, a lie)?

“OK, stipulated.”

iurockhead on October 5, 2012 at 8:49 PM

Yeah, she did. But Obama’s prolly still blaming Libya on the video, too.

Have some cheese with that whine? Agreed the complaining about the loss is pathetic but whining is the official past time here at HA.

rjl1999 on October 5, 2012 at 10:13 PM

Hmmm. Humor covering panic. Romney was doing a Samoan Torch Dance and Obama the Twist.

pat on October 5, 2012 at 10:17 PM

So Rockybama gets destroyed in the debate, then starts in with the personal attacks: he’s a liar, thats not the real Romney etc. Such class exhibited by POTUS.

tommer74 on October 5, 2012 at 10:19 PM

What a cowardice POS! So typical of the sort. Meek, sissy when alone but spewing big caca when among a gang of his sort.

vnohara on October 5, 2012 at 10:20 PM

It’s alot easier to talk s*&t about a guy when he’s not standing next to you. Especially if you’re a wimp like Obama.

Butler on October 5, 2012 at 10:21 PM

I guess Romney could stoop down to rockybama’s level and say something like: The person who I debated on Wednesday was exactly the person who I thought he was. A weak beta male with no answers and all the wrong ideas.

tommer74 on October 5, 2012 at 10:29 PM

“Doing like a, it was like, Dancing with the Stars….”

—- which requires such intense and exhausting practice that contestants frequently lose 20 or more pounds during their run on the show…

“Or, maybe it was, Extreme Makeover…”

—- which accomplishes a task that usually take months in a couple of days with overwhelming manpower and round-the-clock effort.

Isn’t funny that to mock Romney, he would pick two shows that exemplify the amazing results that come from hard work?

Whereas he could only qualify to appear on The Bachelor, making love to the audience and being whisked away on fantasy dates… (Well, anyone deliberately scheduling work on his 20th anniversary only to make himself that much a fool is on route to being a bachelor!)

Another example of how Obamalogic is a failure. If I was Obama I’d stop reminding people about the last debate where I had my hat handed to me, along with my shirt, pants and shoes. You lose a battle, you don’t linger over it; you move on to the next line of defense. But the narcissistic in Barry just won’t allow him to let go the affront. So he’ll hang on, circling the drain, shaking his fist at the sky.

30 something days to go. Let’s bring it.

dissent555 on October 5, 2012 at 11:11 PM

Biden is like a wild stallion…with rabies.

kagai on October 6, 2012 at 12:10 AM

It’s like Obama believed that the strawman of Mitt that the MSM had created was real. Obama expected a fictional character to appear at the debate. When the real Mitt Romney appeared, Obama was totally confused. “This isn’t the real Mitt Romney”, he would say. “The real Mitt Romney wants to raise taxes and give cancer to people. How odd that Mitt isn’t announcing this plan today”, Obama would think to himself. This left Obama unprepared as all of Mitt Romney’s positions had changed.

Is this a joke? C’mon, Obama can’t be that stupid, can he? He’s going around promoting a version of Mitt that never existed. It was all a media caricature. Thing is, if he really did know the truth, he would have been better at the debate. And he’s going around with vigor stating continuing falsehoods about Romney.

MrX on October 6, 2012 at 12:39 AM

OK, it’s obvious, Obama is a sore loser a**hole.

chewydog on October 6, 2012 at 1:55 AM

If Obama got outmaneuvered by a gentleman in a debate where virtually all of the questions were expected and answers rehearsed, how can anyone have any confidence that he can deal with foreign leaders who want to take him to the cleaners and don’t show their cards and LIE to his face and don’t keep ANY promises? His lame excuse of “the other guy cheated” just makes him look more like an inept, impotent fool than before the debate.

Memo to whiny baby BamBam: This is how you prepare for a debate. Unfortunately for you it requires a lot of hard work.

Obama is really more suited to Pawn Stars, where someone’s priceless item turns out to be fake but they refuse to believe it.

The little dictator got his butt kicked and now his only retort is to make wise-ass comments . . . reactions of a small child.

What a coward. Totally. The sad thing is that he truly doesn’t get how ridiculous he appears.

Has to run to his little crowd of people to give his rebuttals that he couldn’t think of the night before. He’s the clown.

What a loser.

Note to Barry: Appearance on The View is NOT adequate debate prep.

stenwin77 on October 6, 2012 at 7:59 AM

Yeah, I have seen guys like Obama my whole life, big talkers, but when confronted with facts, the buckle.

He talks big now that Romney isn’t on the stage, like a whipped husband who shuts up when his wife is with him…talk is cheap, and the further away from Romney, the cheaper the talk.

Romney should say…”I hear Obama, now that he is off stage and can’t be confronted with facts…Here’s a message to the president, if he has something to say, say it to my face, instead of ducking and running”

No.

A guy who stares down at his shoes and smirks while taking the beating of his life would naturally be a surrender-monkey candidate, without a doubt…

People react to that level of whine and defensiveness with revulsion. Obama just keeps digging that hole.

Zero’s new approach is to claim Romney lied during the debate. Well the elephant in the room is that Zero was there and yet he never refuted what Romney said. Romney made his case repeatedly and all Zero did was repeat his same old tired talking points.

And 70 million people witnessed Romney’s forthright presentation and Zero’s smirk.

dogsoldier on October 6, 2012 at 9:50 AM

At least on DWTS, you kind of feel sorry for the performer that don’t do that well. You know that they at least prepared and tried to do well.

gatawoman on October 6, 2012 at 9:52 AM

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It’s quite possible that Mr. President is insane. He just doesn’t see things like normal people do. These remarks that he makes, far from the stage in front of his debator, are said in front of his adoring fans. He feels safe with them. Safe to be a smart a$$. Safe to be a failure. Safe to be a coward. Safe to lie about his accomplishments (or the lack thereof). He doesn’t have a clue just how bad his performance was at the debate. He’s not capable of seeing himself in a bad light. He’s Obama, the great orator. The majestic one. Yup, insane.

scalleywag on October 6, 2012 at 10:02 AM

Obama’s Wednesday debate non-performance showed to all but the willfully blind the emptiness that is Obama. There is no there there, only the shell of a totally manufactured Hollywood celebrity. His adoring acolytes are no better. Just look at the drones behind him at a campaign event. You can almost see the strings attached to their arms, legs and mouths. All Obama has left are stale comedy club snarky quips. He’ll soon trot out his trademark middle finger nose scratch at the mention of Romney or Republicans. He’s got nothing, he is nothing, his followers are nothing. We’ll get past Obama but how do we get past the tens of millions who are so detached from reality that they would re-elect him? They are the real problem, the real danger to this Republic.

SpiderMike on October 6, 2012 at 10:04 AM

Actually Mr.President I thought Mitt danced all right but, he looked like Mohammed Ali “floating like a butterfly” and stinging you at will as you wimpishly sought refuge by looking at the floor.

CorporatePiggy on October 6, 2012 at 10:12 AM

Without Valerie Jarrett (Chicago Slum Dutchess), Obama is like John Holmes without a “flaming beauty”. The One and Only depends so much on Ms Jarrett that she is (illegally), at taxpayers’ expense, assigned a round-the-clock Secret Service guard. Bill Clinton may lay claim to being the first “black” president but Obama can assert that his is the first female head of state.

Obama’s comment was that of a typical little school child calling his opponent who bettered him to embarrassment silly little names.

What will Obama do next ask Mitt, “Do you know who I am?”

or “That’s unfair, picking on a helpless chair!”

or “Oh Yeah? I’ll sic Billy Clinton on you!”

or Hillary….sob.

I don’t think the Prezzy is that stupid. I think he lacked some life experiences and the media was in too much of a rush to get the job for him. And sending an inexperienced, big spending dreamer into that job when the economy was working like V8 with two cylinders dead had to result in a mess.

They should have had Mitt elected last time and Lyndon Joh.., er, Barack Obama and his Great Society Redux about four years in the future.

Socialists or most of our academics who look to the future need other people’s money to spend.

He’s a real butterknife wit, this guy. That a POTUS could utter such drivel… I should be used to it by now, I know.

His defining characteristic after the narcissism and incompetence is petulance. That was the look on his face during the debate. The kid whose dad gives a million a year to Harvard, being chewed out by the dean, looks that like.

“Right… ok… can I go now?”

Akzed on October 6, 2012 at 12:59 PM

Inexcusable is correct, however, it is way, way, way, over the heads of most oba-mao voters. e.g. the phone recipients, the Howard Stern sample and the students who think the one should have been able to have a teleprompter during the debate. The dumbing down of America is well on it’s way, thanks to the federal gummint. God Save America!

He does have a lot of audacity, picking apart the winner of the debate when he himself was the most pathetic debator since Carter. He just never knows when to shut up does he? A gentleman would have admitted defeat and congratulated the winner and been honest with the slobbering crowd that he took a drubbing and EVERYone has been talking about how badly he did ALL WEEK LONG. The guy isn’t just insane, he’s deaf.
