And the NRA endorsement goes to…

posted at 4:41 pm on October 5, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Not much of a revelation (like there was a question of the National Rifle Association giving their endorsement to Barack Obama, heh), but the NRA has finally issued their official presidential endorsement, hailing Mitt Romney as their vote for a “a friend of our Second Amendment freedoms and hunting heritage in the White House”, via AFP:

“Today we live in an America… led by a president who mocks our values, belittles our faith, and is threatened by our freedom,” said Cox in Fishersville, Virginia, where Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan, a congressman and avid hunter, attended a rally.

“So on behalf of the four million men and women of the National Rifle Association, representing tens of millions of NRA supporters, it is my honor to announce the NRA’s endorsement of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan,” Cox said in a statement. …

NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre spoke of the tight Obama-Romney race playing out in Virginia, “the front line of this election.”

“This is where the race could be won or lost,” he said. “This is where gun owners must make that difference.”

Team Romney accepted the endorsement with pleasure in a statement:

“It is the NRA that protects the Second Amendment. I am proud to have their support for my candidacy, and when I am president, I will do all in my power to defend and protect the right of all law-abiding Americans to keep and bear arms,” Mr. Romney said in a statement touting the group’s backing.

So, again, not much of a surprise, but seeing as how the National Rifle Association is an influential organization with over four millions members of all political stripes — and that, despite/because of the horrible Obama economy, the firearms industry is going gangbusters, yeehaw! — I can’t imagine the endorsement playing out as a negative anywhere but the already hyper-liberal circles.

And, just because it’s Friday and it’s awesome, I came across this little nugget a couple of weeks ago and have been saving it for a rainy day. Mitt Romney may not be much of a sportsman himself, but his running mate sure as heck is — and this is what real “girl power” looks like! Via CNN:

Gearing up for deer-hunting season, Rep. Paul Ryan bought hunting clothes for his daughter to go with the rifle the Republican vice presidential nominee gave her for Christmas.

“She’s hunted with me but this is the first time she gets to do the hunting herself,” Ryan said of daughter Liza. “She’s 10 years old and you can hunt starting at 10. I got her a rifle for Christmas last year and so I’m getting her ready.”

On Tuesday in Ohio, between a town hall in Cincinnati and a rally with GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney in Vandalia, Ryan stopped at Bass Pro Shops in the Forrest Park neighborhood to get his daughter outfitted for hunting season.

The outdoorsman went directly to the “Women’s Camo” area to check out their assortment of camouflage items.

Love. It.

With “Bowhunter” on the ticket, I’d say that’s a pretty genuine endorsement.

As we’ve seen over the last 4-years….Nothing puts firearms into the hands of law-abiding Americans faster than a Marxist Regime.

At the campaign rally in VA last night the NRA gave out neon orange hats. That is a good idea, since some people went crazy thinking that Paul Ryan was taking his daughter into the woods without any neon in deer season. Everyone should get themselves some neon, the baby boomers are getting worse eyesight as they age. Last year a lady in a camel hair coat walking her two labs (dogs) in the woods was gunned down by a neighbor who thought she was a deer.

Go in the woods, run in the street, ride your bike in the road, get some neon.

I wouldn’t go into the big woods during deerhunting season if I was wearing a full neon suit. Too many crazies. I’ll take the open grasslands/harvested cornfields with some wooded creek bottoms and fence rows…plus some neon.

My son and I are both NRA Life Members. It was one of my gifts to my firstborn son on the very day he was born.

We still sometimes attend their functions and shooting competitions but we were really active when my son was 10 to about 14 years old — then extracurricular school sports got in the way and just ate up too much time — and money. They are one heckuva group of fun and down-to-earth people. I just wish they’d have more functions and competitions in my neck of the woods.

My guess is that all of the civilian firearms manufacturers most definitely appreciate what Barack Hussein Obama and the entire Left has done for them these last 4-years or so — and would be tempted to endorse them all.

Where at one time you could walk into just about any firearms retailer large enough to carry inventory and they’d pretty much have whatever you saw on display in stock and ready to hand over after the waiting period here in California — I had to wait nearly 4 months for my brand new .40-cal Glock 22 Gen-4 that I was finally able pick up recently. The waiting list is looong for new firearm purchases from major manufacturers due to the overwhelming demand.

It is the NRA that protects the Second Amendment

That is a powerful compliment from the man who is going to be President in a handful of weeks.

So, America: Who is going to protect the First Amendment with the same years of effort and persistence that the NRA has demonstrated for their defense of the 2nd? Who will be singled out with such distinction next?

jimver on October 5, 2012 at 5:14 PM

The NRA made no endorsement when Bush Sr. ran for re-election in 1992, nor in the Dole-Clinton race in 1996. So even though I don’t think they’ve ever endorsed a Democrat for president, they aren’t guaranteed to endorse the Republican either.

GarandFan on October 5, 2012 at 5:03 PM

The NRA expressly supports state gun rights and our national RTKBA (Right To Keep and Bear Arms) — read: The 2nd Amendment. That is basically their sole function aside from the extracurricular activities they often host and/or sponsor.

No matter what state they are in — the candidate that is the most ardent gun rights supporter with the track record to prove it usually gets the endorsement after long debate and consideration of the candidates seeking a NRA endorsement. I know because I’ve been part of the NRA endorsement process in the past. That sometimes means even Democrats are endorsed by the NRA because — *SHOCK* — some Democrats do support gun rights — and some even more strongly than their so-called ‘Republican’ opponent(s).

Now — the fact of the matter is — the NRA did NOT endorse Harry Reid. They considered it and eventually declined due to his support of Obama’s SCOTUS nominees whom are decidedly anti-gun ownership.

Whom the NRA endorses might be insulting to your sensibilities — but their mission is to advance individual American citizen Gun Rights including retaining the 2nd Amendment as originally written. Sometimes — you just gotta swallow hard and take the bitter with the sweet to maintain your Rights. But in this case — it never advanced beyond consideration and resulted in an NRA endorsement for Reid’s opponent — not Reid.

FlatFoot on October 5, 2012 at 5:29 PM

My NRA is in the gun safe, except a couple. All the endorsement support I need.

jimver on October 5, 2012 at 5:12 PM

jimver, you are correct, they briefly toyed with endorsing Reid based upon very recent history prior to the 2010 elections, but due to the outcry (read, significant loss of donations), they re-assessed based upon his total history and declined to endorse anyone in the Nevada Senate race.

NRA is a single issue organization. They would endorse a communist over a republican if the communist was demonstrated pro-second amendment. Won’t happen, but that is their charter. NRA members are smart enough to fully evaluate the whole of the candidates’ positions.

You know, there is an article in the Washington Post about Obama not really wanting the job anymore. I have been feeling that for a long time, there are suttle and not so suttle signs he puts out there.

I really think Romney needs to run an ad about this, or maybe one of the PACS should. With the huge problems we have I think the independents and undecideds could be swayed by commercials that show he is just not into doing the job anymore whether they like him or not. The problems are just too big to elect someone who just doesn’t want the job anymore.

Not endorsing 0hblama in any way, but Mittens is hardly pro 2A, the NRA just ran out of candidates to endorse who could win in 2012, and they aren’t about to endorse Gary Johnson even though he would be the best 2A candidate. Politics as usual.
