Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:01 am on October 3, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Barack Obama went back to work this week, by which I of course mean he continued talking with hard-hitting media outlets like, er, Glamour.  What topics did Obama want to discuss — the economy, foreign policy, or the federal deficit?  Of course not!  Mark Knoller tweeted out the highlight of the interview:

“No brainer?”  Well … yeah.  That’s exactly what the Center for Disease Control found in its long-range study of sexually active women and unplanned pregnancy. The 2009 study showed that 99% of sexually active women who wanted to avoid pregnancy thought access to contraception a no-brainer, too.  In fact, the 20-year study never even suggests that access was a barrier to avoiding pregnancy; it doesn’t make the list of reasons for the unplanned pregnancies that occurred with respondents to their survey.

On the other hand, assuming that women can’t find birth control without their employer or school subsidizing and facilitating access, and forcing them to do so?  That’s treating women as “no brainers.”  It infantilizes women and puts employers, educators, and the government in the bedroom — where activists claim they don’t want those kind of intrusions.

Twitchy caught some of the reaction:

Just a few words from some of the “brainer” set.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Like many other colloquial terms used in conversational english, I don’t think Obama has a clue what the term means. Remember, this is the guy that told the Congressional House leader ‘Don’t call my bluff, Eric’.

Words…just words. That should be his political epitaph.

@markknoller So is it the president’s position that “access” to something is denied if your neighbor doesn’t foot the bill for it?

I can’t remember a campaign making an “issue” of anything as laughably stupid as this.

It infantilizes women and puts employers, educators, and the government in the bedroom — where activists claim they don’t want those kind of intrusions.

Yes but this is a cheap freebie for the Dems to curry favor with women.

More broadly, you should realize that our electorate is not offended by patronizing, privacy invasions, racial insults and slights, despotic demands and even the occasional requirement to override religious beliefs if a freebie or other government relief of a problem is offered.

Special shout out to the pro life religious who are going to vote Democratic.

gophergirl on October 3, 2012 at 8:17 AM

That’s just how Democrats want their women. “No Brainers”
The abuse they have heaped on women is staggering. All in the name of “helping” them.
My wife cannot fathom why women would support a person who thinks so little of their capabilities. She actually refers to liberals as sexist pigs.

Jabberwock on October 3, 2012 at 8:19 AM

In interview with Glamour Magazine, out today, Pres Obama says to most Americans, “access to contraception should be a no-brainer.”

I really would like to meet one of these women, like Julia, whose whole life revolves around her “lady parts.”

Seriously, you’d think that some of these women are just as concerned about the world they are bringing their kids up in as they are in getting free contraception. But that’s just me. I have yet to figure out why the hell Obama has any support going into this election. It is as if these idiots are happy that their rapist is giving them contraception on the way out the door.

Happy Nomad on October 3, 2012 at 8:20 AM

I’m beginning to suspect that large numbers of people want to be infantilized.

And it was a coordinated effort kicked off by Stephanieopolous when he posed the question to the Republicans at their debate.

Then, as IlikedAUH2O so eloquently stated, unfortunately their target segment of the electorate complied.

Brat on October 3, 2012 at 8:26 AM

Isn’t the term “LADY parts offensive on a number of levels?

First Fluke is not a lady she’s just a hookup with a degree right?

Secondly what about those that are trans-gender……..what about their ALMOST lady parts?

Thirdly what about the under 18 crowd that WANTS to be a lady but can’t because of age discrimination. Should 16 year olds be considered ladies?

Very offensive.

PappyD61 on October 3, 2012 at 8:27 AM

Even before birth control meds, abstinence was free and condoms a buck, both readily available.

hillsoftx on October 3, 2012 at 8:28 AM

PappyD61 on October 3, 2012 at 8:27 AM

Not true. Fluke is a one night stand with an ADVANCED degree.

Happy Nomad on October 3, 2012 at 8:29 AM

Dey’s stoopid.

Gubmint gots to help ‘em all, all of ‘em

Is this what Team Obama really wishes to tell American women?

Seems so.

Pathetic.

[BTW, why is Planned Parenthood, a private organization, dependent on our federal tax dollars to exist? Can any private organization get the same sort of federal support, unquestioned, without audit? Didn’t think so.

Just saw two Obama ads here in Ohio last night, stating that without Planned Parenthood, women would be denied access to mammograms and would all die of cervical cancer.]

And there are liberal women here in Ohio who will dutifully nod their heads and vote for Obama merely because of this tripe.

Real women, smart women, got all this stuff already taken care of, without PP, without depending on government…it is called taking charge of your own damn life. Women I know seem to do well by that sort of thing.

Oh, well.

Off to the hospital.

Prayers are welcome.

petefrt on October 3, 2012 at 8:12 AM

Yes, which is good news, because it means we all now have a right to demand taxpayer-subsidized guns.

After all, if we’re not provided with “access” to the firearms of our choosing, then we’re being denied our constitutional right to bear arms.

Everyone stop talking about Ohio. I had a dream that the state would be Romney’s Waterloo. The GM bailout killing him would be ironic considering his dad saved a car company.

The 2007 Daily Caller-Obama Tape

If Mitt had backbone he would be screaming about the Hampton-Obama tape.

If Barack had any sense, he would have showed some of that pro-black pandering while in office and have had the lapdog media convince the Oprah and MSNBC viewers that it is all OK.

Getting hit with it now, may upset people. No wonder we have unsafe neighborhoods.

Esp. after some PAC tells women he was getting blacks mad to come after THEM!

IlikedAUH2O on October 3, 2012 at 9:22 AM

Romney can win the election tonight by declaring that the government will put birth control kiosk in every major mall, grocery store, post office, hospital, and of course phone store. His team can whip up some numbers on how many jobs this will create and show his business sense by making deals with the manufacturers on buying bulk.Since the taxpayers are paying this should end the talk of the war on women that seems to be all the rage these days.

docflash on October 3, 2012 at 9:25 AM

angrymike on October 3, 2012 at 9:27 AM

Yet Barky and the media is controlling the message well. Barky still, inexplicably, leads amongst women. Dumb women undoubtedly. Although I did hear one woman say that Romney was going to ban abortion (heh, wishful thinking for some of us).

CorporatePiggy on October 3, 2012 at 9:33 AM

Women aren’t concerned about what has happened the last four years, as long as they know they will get free birth control for the next four.

And in too many cases, that statement will be correct.

So that 1% of women who can’t get access to contraception must be Flukes. If it’s such a no-brainer, how does Randy Sandy keep her GPA up at Georgetown?
