FLOTUS: Barack’s done just a phenomenal job working around Congress

posted at 5:21 pm on October 3, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Via Breitbart, I would actually agree with the First Lady on this one — President Obama has demonstrated a rather disquieting level of comfort with circumventing a Congress that doesn’t agree on wholesaling his liberal agenda. But, as to why that’s supposed to be a positive thing… I’m not sure I’m getting it.

MICHELLE OBAMA ON The TOM JOYNER MORNING SHOW: Well, we’re understanding that, you know, you can have a president you love, but if you don’t have a congress that’s willing to work, you know, you wind up stalled in so many ways. And I think that Barack has done a phenomenal job working around a congress that has never been willing to help move the country forward on so many different issues. But I think he’s done everything humanly possible to get things passed around the margins. But, you know, just imagine where this country will be when we have Barack Obama as President and we have a congress that’s ready to work hand-in-hand, and willing to compromise to make sure that this country moves forward for everyone.

I wonder how many days and in how many ways I’ll find myself making this same point before we’re finally out of the woods of this particular presidency: In the first two no-holds-barred years of his term, Obama passed stimuli, Dodd-Frank, and of course the major PPACA overhaul sans bipartisan support. Ergo, Americans showed up to vote in November 2010 en masse for conservative candidates, specifically electing a new Congress to thwart his unpopular agenda. This is not rocket science — it’s called “checks and balances,” and it is a highly useful feature of our democratic institutions. I suppose Team Obama is relying on us having short political memories and is trying to get us to focus on the gridlock of the last two years, so we can all forget about how we overwhelmingly rejected having Barack Obama as president paired with “a Congress that’s ready to work hand-in-hand.”

Michelle is the same dictator as her beard is.

They are brought up by marxists.

That woman makes me feel like throwing up.

Yeah, never mind the separation of powers thing in the Constitution you heard about when going through law school you fat assed whore. Or is fat assed hyphenated?

The whole point here is that the executive branch does not “work around” Congress when it comes to legislation.

If either Michelle or Barry had ever attended a class in Constitutional law they would have been told (even if they refused to hear it) that Congress not only is not obligated to cooperate with the President (other than arguably in time of war) but is obligated to act as the representative of the people generally. If the President is to work with Congress it is incumbent on the President above all to find a path to cooperation.

The Tea Party upsurge in 2010 did indeed express the will of the people that the Obama Steamroller be stopped. It was then on Obama to figure out some way to keep things moving. He did not, because he could not. Obama is an autocrat not willing to work within a representative structure. It is why he has spent virtually all of the last two years playing golf and campaigning.

Enough, already

YOU KNOW? YOU KNOW? YOU KNOW?

Yes; we know. What we don’t know is who is the father of your younger daughter…she doesn’t look like daddy. I’m sure Andrew Sullivan is on the trail.

She really shtruggles (Official FLOTUS Pronunciation) with the Constitution.

it is a highly useful feature of our democratic republican institutions.

FIFY Erika. The whole idea of checks and balances – and balancing state and popular power – is what makes it a republic and not just a democracy.

Why hell, everybody knows that thwarting the Constitution is a feature, not a flaw. Awesome commentary, First Whatzit.
