FLOTUS: Barack’s done just a phenomenal job working around Congress

posted at 5:21 pm on October 3, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Via Breitbart, I would actually agree with the First Lady on this one — President Obama has demonstrated a rather disquieting level of comfort with circumventing a Congress that doesn’t agree on wholesaling his liberal agenda. But, as to why that’s supposed to be a positive thing… I’m not sure I’m getting it.

MICHELLE OBAMA ON The TOM JOYNER MORNING SHOW: Well, we’re understanding that, you know, you can have a president you love, but if you don’t have a congress that’s willing to work, you know, you wind up stalled in so many ways. And I think that Barack has done a phenomenal job working around a congress that has never been willing to help move the country forward on so many different issues. But I think he’s done everything humanly possible to get things passed around the margins. But, you know, just imagine where this country will be when we have Barack Obama as President and we have a congress that’s ready to work hand-in-hand, and willing to compromise to make sure that this country moves forward for everyone.

I wonder how many days and in how many ways I’ll find myself making this same point before we’re finally out of the woods of this particular presidency: In the first two no-holds-barred years of his term, Obama passed stimuli, Dodd-Frank, and of course the major PPACA overhaul sans bipartisan support. Ergo, Americans showed up to vote in November 2010 en masse for conservative candidates, specifically electing a new Congress to thwart his unpopular agenda. This is not rocket science — it’s called “checks and balances,” and it is a highly useful feature of our democratic institutions. I suppose Team Obama is relying on us having short political memories and is trying to get us to focus on the gridlock of the last two years, so we can all forget about how we overwhelmingly rejected having Barack Obama as president paired with “a Congress that’s ready to work hand-in-hand.”

And here all this time I thought kicking the duly elected representatives of The People, By The People, For The People to the curb and bypassing Congress via issuing dictatorial edicts from up on the White House dais with the specific intent of self-servingly pandering for votes and self-aggrandizingly fulfilling your own personal agenda while ignoring the cumulative will of The People was a bad thing.

For a long time, even seeing these two people, after it became so apparent what they are and the depth of the destruction wrought by the implementation of the toxic ideology they embrace began to unfold, was viscerally unpleasant for me.

Now, though, with the election so near, the salt thrown into the wounds they’ve inflicted through their tenure in the White House has actually served to cauterize those wounds, and I’m not so impacted by the very sight of them, as once I was.

Now, I can’t wait for Inauguration Day, to see Romney sworn in, with Ann by his side, and watch that helicopter carrying Obama and his figurative little cardboard box of memorabilia away from the White House for the final time.

There’s a pleasure now, in seeing them, and in that glint of desperation that has crept into the corner of their eyes with the knowledge that their tenure as King and Queen of the United States is finally drawing to a close, and the sure and certain knowledge that they will have each others company…and that of the secret service watching all that they do… hearing all that they say…for the remainder of their days.
