Pelosi: The audacity of these GOPers, asking for a State Dept probe

posted at 7:21 pm on October 2, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

In the fallout from the 9/11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, the White House has had more than a little difficulty getting their story straight, and the efficacy of their narrative has grown increasingly thin. There are still plenty of questions about how and why the White House hasn’t been able to present a consistent front, and it looks like mere miscommunication may be among the least of our problems — which, I would think, most reasonable people would say is a pretty good justification for Congress doing its job and investigating the executive branch’s activities. Earlier today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa sent the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton a letter asking for a hearing on the matter and on an apparent pattern of security concerns to be scheduled next week. Ugh, how very distastefully partisan of him, wouldn’t you say? From CNN:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi blasted House Republicans Tuesday for requesting a hearing next week on the State Department’s handling of last month’s deadly consulate attack in Libya. …

“We’re supposed to be in session this week, but they’ve canceled it rather than passing a middle income tax cut, passing a jobs bill, passing the Violence Against Women Act, passing the farm bill–any of those things,” Pelosi said. “But yet they have time to say we want information, when they know it’s premature.”

Asked if she was suggesting the hearing was called for political purposes, Pelosi replied: “One might suspect that.” …

“I think it’s important to note that Congress does have a right to know, but the secretary and the Department of State have to have the information,” Pelosi said on CNN. “How can you ask the secretary to come before the information is known?”

Yes, Minority Leader — why the State Department supposedly doesn’t/wouldn’t have the information is sort of a question we’d all like to have answered. And please, spare us the whole “the Republicans are the ones fleeing town” bit and quit acting like Democrats aren’t grateful to be home running their campaigns, too (especially when the drawn-out gridlock over taxes and jobs bills and whatnot have been so wildly unproductive, thanks in large part to you).

The State Department, meanwhile, has indicated that they intend to work closely with Congress to figure out what happened, via The Hill:

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will “cooperate fully” with a Republican probe into the security situation in Libya in the lead-up to the Sept. 11 attack that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans, the Obama administration said Tuesday. …

“The secretary intends to respond to the congressmen today,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said at her daily briefing Tuesday.

“And her letter will make absolutely clear the desire of this department, her personal desire to cooperate closely with the committee and with all members of Congress, both in their document requests, in their requests for witnesses for their hearing, because we share the same goal: We want to get to the bottom of precisely what happened and learn any lessons that we need to learn from it. We’re taking this very, very seriously.”

John the Libertarian on October 2, 2012 at 7:30 PM

Well, she definitely has stones given how she treated the Bush administration when she was Speaker.

AZfederalist on October 2, 2012 at 7:32 PM

Former Speaker Pelosi can help here. Remember that she visited Syria during the Bush years.

She can dash again to her buddy who runs Syria and ask for Iranian help in getting around to inspect the crime scene.

Maybe there will be evidence of right wing involvement.

You know what would be priceless?

Imagine Hillary sitting in the hot seat in front of the committee. The chairman looks her in the eye before she says a word and says, “Believing your testimony today requires a willing suspension of disbelief.”

Pelosi: “How can you ask the secretary to come before the information is known?”

I guess you have to pass it (around the spin cycle numerous times) to find out what’s in it.

How about this one, Nancy? The American people deserve some forthright answers via their elected officials’ queries. Not everything is political or partisan, my dear. Only in your world is statesmanship to be handled through those prisms.

Hey, Nancy, it’s easy. It’s kinda like passing the bill to know what’s in it ;)

I have to think that somewhere in that cold, dark soul of hers she is having a bile full of the Big O.

She’s has her own political future and has to think that she owes nothing to him (a fact hubby I’m sure reminds her frequently). She may feel that she most certainly will not hang for the likes of HIM.

“But yet they have time to say we want information, when they know it’s premature.”

“We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it”

You would think , by her logic, a hearing would be in order Before knowing what happened in Lybia.

Asked if she was suggesting the hearing was called for political purposes, Pelosi replied: “One might suspect that.” …

Asked if Congress (which has oversight responsibilities) should ignore the lies coming out of the Executive branch. This same bitch would be silent or more likely go into her “seriously” riff.

Face it folks, this is political at this point. The administration is doing everything it can to hide the truth and it is slowly dripping out by leaks from members of the intelligence community unwilling to be the scapegoats from the State Department refusing proper security to further a mythical story of rising democracy among Middle East nations. Pelosi can’t admit the truth. Obama, Clinton, and Rice knowingly and deliberatly lied. The administration is obstructing any scrutiny of the whole attack. And they have yet to really call it a terrorist attack.

BTW- Why didn’t we see pictures of Hillary Clinton at the funeral of Ambassador Stevens? It’s almost a given that she would be there but we don’t even know if there has been any sort of a memorial service. In the meantime Stevens’ family is questioning why they can’t get any answers out of the government. It all points to the desire of the rat-eared coward to bury the whole incident until after the elections.

“Middle income tax cut” really means “we’re going to soak anybody who makes more than about $100K total for a couple, because we define them as ‘rich fat cats’”.

Another “jobs bill” from this bunch is something this country needs about as much as someone with the Spanish Flu of 1917-18 needed pneumonia on top of it. (Said combo nearly killed one of my uncles at age 15.)

The Violence Against Women Act? I thought we’d already dealt with that one. Or is this an “improved” version that just outlaws the male half of the human race entirely? (I wouldn’t put that past Pelosi, who is even more delusional on science that The One on some subjects.)

The “farm bill”? See the answer to the “jobs bill”. At some point these lawyers, none of whom could raise a weed without it croaking, will have to understand that farming is not a safe business, in any respect. And passing laws won’t help that, either with OSHA rules or attempts to “safety-net” it by predicting the future. (Maybe they can clone Nostradamus, and he can give them some help in that department?)

We need to find out what went wrong in the MidEast right now, because the situation there is getting worse whether Queen Nancy believes it or not. (And before the usual suspects here have a chance to shred the incriminating memos out of their offices.)

And as bad as the situation in the MidEast is, letting Pelosi have her way on legislation would in the long run be even worse for this country. No matter what the issue, she makes The One look like a genius by comparison.

And he would lose a battle of wits with Wile E. Coyote.

She couldn’t outsmart Elmer Fudd.

Pelosi is certifiably insane. When the democrats took over the House of Representatives in 2006, Pelosi became the Speaker of the House. It was the beginning of the end to the U S economy. Add Onbama is 2008 and bankruptcy, here we come. Add Obama in 2012 and life as we know it will cease to exist.
