“Saturday Night Live” on Obama: This economy isn’t very good, is it?

posted at 5:21 pm on September 28, 2012 by Allahpundit

Not that funny, and it’s capped predictably by a shot at Romney lest anyone at home be confused about whom they’re supposed to vote for. But it’s a must-post anyway, for three reasons. One: It’s a chance to see the new guy, Jay Pharoah, as Obama after four years of Fred Armisen’s awfulness. Two: I feel guilty for suggesting yesterday that one’s humor should turn in part on one’s politics. Here’s proof that it doesn’t. I want this sketch to be high-larious, but … hey. Three: The more attention they get for taking shots at O, however half-heartedly, the more reason they have to keep doing it. Keep at it, guys. There’s another bit of Obama/China genius buried somewhere in that writing staff. I just know it.

Oh, one more reason why this is worth posting: “SNL” may now be the most reliable source of economic news on NBC.

first black black president impersonator

you know what’d be great Allah? If we had a competent candidate.

Flapjackmaka on September 28, 2012 at 5:24 PM

If they don’t have the new guy Jay Pharaoh as Obama and Kenan Thompson as this…..guy?in a skit togther on the next show, the writers should all be fired!

MississippiMom on September 28, 2012 at 5:28 PM

They wouldn’t shut up about Mitt Romney’s poll numbers dropping like a lead balloon. Oh, except it’s Obama’s poll numbers that have been dropping, not Romney’s.

mattshu on September 28, 2012 at 5:28 PM

Not that funny + shown on NBC, parent of MSNBC, falsifier of news in order to save Obama from disaster = Not watching.

LASue on September 28, 2012 at 5:29 PM

I’m shocked it took this long to post this video. It may not be “funny” but it’s the most biting satire about Obama the MSM has ever done. Why? Because it’s true and it’s obvious.

AYNBLAND on September 28, 2012 at 5:30 PM

well guess I haven’t much in the last few years if that’s a highlight

How much grape soda does he have to drink to get that perfect lip color?

Ditkaca on September 28, 2012 at 5:31 PM

They’re right Obama isn’t funny. It appears skit endings are difficult to do well, even with the easy exit of “Live from New York…” to fall back on.

Fallon on September 28, 2012 at 5:32 PM

Obama is working full time (full time for Obama is about a 20 hour week) to destroy the American economy.

VorDaj on September 28, 2012 at 5:34 PM

SNL is so bad – the liberal audience + tourists who get in don’t even laugh.

At anything.

When Justin Timberlake is your funniest dude every other year…

Odie1941 on September 28, 2012 at 5:34 PM

Not funny. Armison may have been a fake-black, but at least his accent was better. That was really, really bad. Pharaoh is gonna have to lose a ton of weight to look like Obama. Maybe he could go on Michelle’s school lunch diet?

OTOH–the content is spot on.

conservative pilgrim on September 28, 2012 at 5:34 PM

That was not a very good impersination. That was really bad, actually.

She does come across as a caricature, huh? Kenan Thompson could knock that one outta the park.

conservative pilgrim on September 28, 2012 at 5:36 PM

The last line was absolutely pathetic. They might as well ran a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen that said “sorry guys we had to do this but we don’t really mean it.”

I hate SNL, but in spite of myself, I found it funny.

I’m surprised that SNL went there. Maybe this weekend we will get Obama with the View gals.

Flapjackmaka on September 28, 2012 at 5:24 PM

A competent candidate? You think Mitt Romney… is incompetent? Mitt Romney is a lot of things. Bland. Stiff. Rich. One thing he’s not is incompetent.

Maybe you want him to be more aggressive? I can understand being unhappy with his campaign, especially considering he’s at best, tied with Obama right now, when by all accounts this should be a 15 point blow-out, given how bad things are and have been. But to call him incompetent disqualifies you from being taken serious. That’s a dumb thing to say.

Fish on September 28, 2012 at 5:40 PM

LOL!!

I really enjoy this new young man. It’s like his presence gives the writers more leeway to fashion satire with more bite (though Fred Armisen’s impersonation was uncanny in a ‘Rich Little’ way). Up to the election, SNL will be my only Thursday night “Appointment TV”

:)

Ladysmith CulchaVulcha on September 28, 2012 at 5:43 PM

I heard a remark on the Obama-crazed Scandal about “46 million people who don’t have health insurance.” Doing their bit for Dear Leader.

PattyJ on September 28, 2012 at 5:43 PM

A competent candidate? You think Mitt Romney… is incompetent?

Very incompetent. He’s a loser. I wanted someone who could win an election and attract people, someone competent.

Dont it’s just 40 days from now everyone here will be talking bad about romney and he shouldnt have been the nominee. Second verse, same as the first.

Flapjackmaka on September 28, 2012 at 5:44 PM

At this point I’ll bet that the impersonator would be a more competent President than Obama’s been.

thatsafactjack on September 28, 2012 at 5:49 PM

The best little Bammie voice imitator is still a talk-radio show host, and that’s a sad commentary on the state of comedy in the USA.

Let’s also not forget that the excellent Jim Bridges-Obama was banned from network TV, while his President George W. Bush imitation was feted by all the networks.

slickwillie2001 on September 28, 2012 at 5:54 PM

Weird comments from the pancake maker. Romney is not incompetent or a loser, but if you think he is, are you going to vote for Obama instead?

LASue on September 28, 2012 at 5:54 PM

no, what we need are better trolls

DanMan on September 28, 2012 at 5:55 PM

While this guy doesn’t particularly look like Obama, I thought his voice and speech patterns were almost perfect.

For those who didn’t like the last line, you have to remember – that really IS the only reason most people are voting for Obama, they have somehow bought the media’s story that Romney would be worse.

Longing4Lincoln on September 28, 2012 at 5:55 PM

On the issue of being funny. It seems dear joe is at it again with this statement! This should get the ‘seniors’ out to vote for bho?

The easy and funny angle they should take is to go at his celebrity status. Example for a sketch. He has a meeting with his secretary to discuss his schedule for the day and have him meet tons of celebrities that day. In between all the celebrities, stick in five minutes for an economic and national security meeting combined. Have Obama role his eyes that he even has to do that many minutes. Then have him discuss which one of the ladies at Entertainment Tonight will be interviewing him for this weeks interview. Then have him fret that Nancy Odell is the tough one. Then have Netanyahu call and have Obama say that maybe he can squeeze him in next week between his lunch with Beyonce and his 18 holes with Tiger. Then have him say…”yah, right” and giggle.

That kind of skit writes itself and even liberals know its true and would probably laugh at it, yet they still won’t do it.

Of course they’d clap Romney being worse, realistically the only people showing up to see Obama speak these days are the hardcore fainters.

Don’t even bother with these people. They’ve drunk so much of His Royal Highness King Willard the Inevitable’s Kool-Aid that their complexions resemble the surface of Mars in coloration.

Dunedainn on September 28, 2012 at 11:39 PM

That wasn’t too bad. I’ve seen worst from SNL. And to be fair their skits knocking Mitt Romney a couple of weeks ago weren’t funny either. SO SNL isn’t very funny when knocking Mitt or Obama!

terryannonline on September 29, 2012 at 12:23 AM

SNL still has an audience?

KOOLAID2 on September 29, 2012 at 2:46 AM

The only good news is that Obama is so effing lazy that he’s only destroying America at half-speed.Still, I’m going to vote for the man because he gave me a free radio.

MaiDee on September 29, 2012 at 6:39 AM

“I see employed people” was the only funny line in that waaaay-to-long skit. Somebody should have shouted “Get the hook!”
